Spurs braced for a £7m United offer for Carrick

Tottenham Hotspur are steeling themselves for a bid from Manchester United for the England midfielder Michael Carrick after the Old Trafford club made an initial enquiry about the player´s availability this week. A fee in the region of £7m should be enough to secure a transfer and already Tottenham are on the lookout for a replacement for him.

Sir Alex Ferguson´s interest in Carrick is long-standing and he toyed with the idea of a bid for the player, 25 next month, in the January transfer window but decided to wait until the summer to make his move. Carrick has two years remaining on his contract and this summer would expect a new deal that would stretch Tottenham´s pay structure to breaking point.

Carrick and his agent, David Giess, have been told that talks will be opened with Tottenham after the World Cup finals, although a salary of £50,000 a week upwards would not be sanctioned by White Hart Lane. Instead they are prepared to let him go for more than twice the £2.75m they paid West Ham for him in August 2004.

Carrick is finally showing that his talent belongs on the international stage. He made a stuttering start against Belarus in Reading last month but impressed when he came on for 20 minutes against Jamaica.

The Tottenham coach, Martin Jol, is a fan of Carrick, although he has long felt the player´s progress this season could take him out of the hands of Spurs. There are many at the club who say it is time to give Tom Huddlestone, the 20-year-old who was signed from Derby County last year, chance in midfield.

With Edgar Davids likely to leave this summer, and Carrick possibly on his way too, the way should open up for Huddlestone. Spurs will also look to the highly regarded Ivory Coast midfielder Didier Zokora, 25, who plays for St-Etienne and has been considered by, among others, United.

Tottenham have strong links with St-Etienne through their sporting director, Damien Comolli, and would hope to have the first refusal on Zokora.

In the mean time, United will not give up their interest in the Lyon midfielder Mahamadou Diarra despite a price of around £14m, which they consider too high. There remains the distinct prospect that they will buy both Carrick and Diarra to revitalise the centre of their midfield.

Jol has promised further new signings as Spurs unveiled the capture of the France Under-18 defender Dorian Dervitte from Lille. The move will be completed at the start of next month and Dervitte will join the club´s development squad at the start of the season.

Si comme le dit l´article, on arrive à avoir Carrick et Diarra ça nous fait un très gros milieu de terrain avec les Jones, Fletcher et Smith.

Gudjohnsen, j´ai un peu de mal avec lui.

Mourinho a eu besoin d´attaquants pendant un temps et il ne l´a pas fait jouer et maintenant il recrute Ballack alors que c´est un poste qu´il peut occuper.

Je sais pas trop s´il vaut vraiment le coup, on déjà Smith comme attaquant reconverti en milieu.

Tal es el convencimiento de que Torres será jugador del Manchester United la próxima temporada que en los círculos futbolísticos ingleses el asunto se da casi por cerrado y se habla de lo poco o mucho que le costará a Torres adaptarse a la liga inglesa. Su gol en el amistoso contra Croacia fue prueba definitiva, según un conocido entrenador de la Premiership, de que no tendrá ningún problema para liderar el ataque en Old Trafford. El uso de las bandas (con Ronaldo por la derecha, si se queda, y Ji Sung Park por la izquierda) beneficiará también al hasta ahora jugador del Atlético.

En una reciente encuesta realizada en la página web del Manchester, Torres y Diarra eran las caras nuevas que la afición del club inglés quiere para la próxima temporada. El rojiblanco ganó con creces en la lista de delanteros y Mahamadou Diarra superaba al español Mikel Arteta en la de centrocampistas. (AS)

Je vois pas trop Torres partir non plus, de toute façon il n´a jamais dit vouloir partir.

Sinon, en cas de départ de Ruud, Huntelaar me parait pas etre un mauvais remplaçant meme si l´Ajax ne lachera pas comme ça.

Norwegians warn United

Molde have warned Manchester United off making a move for one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer´s prodigies.

The United striker, who will undertake more coaching duties at Old Trafford next term, is thought to have recommended Magnus Wolff Eikrem to Sir Alex Ferguson, after he was discovered at the 33-year-old´s soccer school.

Molde, the club who sold Solskjaer to United in 1996, are keen to hang onto Eikrem as he is still only 15 years old and, they feel, too young to be heading for Manchester.

"I have nothing to say about this, except that we want to keep him at Molde," director Tarje Nordstrand told Nettavisen.

"We consider it natural that he will stay here and develop further and, when he is good enough, he takes the step abroad."

Meanwhile, Eikrem has remained tight-lipped about the situation.

"I don´t want to comment if I have received an offer from Manchester United," said the teenager.

Norwegian sources claim Eikrem has already had a number of trials with The Red Devils and is set to be offered a contract when he turns 16, which is later this year.

Mascherano, ça n´a jamais vraiment été une priorité de Sir Alex.

Concernant Riquelme, vu que l´on parle beaucoup de Ribéry et Carrick, je doute qu´il vienne.

J´ai lu sur football.fr que MU avait soumi une offre de 15 M d´euros pour Carrick et qu´elle a ete rejete par totenham.

Ils doivent reprendre les rumeurs qui circulent sur le net...

Manchester United have had a £10m bid for midfielder Michael Carrick rejected by Tottenham, BBC Sport can reveal.
Spurs dismissed the offer, insisting United would have to double their offer to land the 24-year-old, who is part of the England squad at the World Cup.

Manchester United faxed their offer to Tottenham on Friday, but it was swiftly turned down.

Carrick´s agent, David Giess, declined to comment when contacted by BBC Sport late on Friday.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants Carrick as a replacement for Roy Keane who left the club last December.

Carrick, who has two years left on his contract at White Hart Lane, is likely to be on the substitute´s bench for England in their World Cup opener against Paraguay on Saturday.

He was born in the north-east and came through the ranks at West Ham, joining Tottenham in August 2004 for £2.75m.
