United Eye £10m Carrick
Alex Ferguson will launch a £10million bid for Michael Carrick — and Tottenham fear their midfield star wants to leave. Manchester United boss Fergie has targeted the Geordie playmaker as the man he wants to anchor his midfield. And anxious Spurs are already in the market for replacements, with Carrick, 24, reluctant to open talks about a new contract at White Hart Lane. Fergie hopes to recruit two top central midfielders this summer and wants AC Milan’s Rino Gattuso to replace Roy Keane as a ball-winner. Mahamadou Diarra was a target, but Lyon priced him out of the market with a £28m tag.

The 21-year-old winger has been in great form for the Reds in recent months. On Wednesday night, he was presented with the club´s Goal of the Season award by United legend Denis Law, for the first of his two goals at Portsmouth in February.

"There is no harm in dreaming of becoming the world’s best player," Ronaldo admits in an interview with this month´s United magazine interview, on sale now.

"Playing with the fantastic football players we have here I am in a very good position. I´ll keep working hard to achieve that - but I believe it´s within my own capabilities."

In an exclusive interview with the magazine, Ronaldo reveals how he’s becoming a more rounded player following the release of statistics that show him to be United’s most consistent tackler and passer of the ball.

He also talks about his tricks of the trade, the secret to his knockout build and United’s team spirit. You can also find out what he thinks about English referees and being frequently fouled!

Also In This Month´s United Magazine...

Roma : Totti veut Van Nistelrooy (04/05)

Louis Saha and Cristiano Ronaldo are minor doubts for Manchester United after the pair picked up knocks in Monday´s draw with Middlesbrough.

With Wayne Rooney missing, Giuseppe Rossi is likely to be on the bench but Gabriel Heinze will not start despite recovering from a groin strain.

Treble Delights Reserve Team Heroes

United´s young Reserves were predictably delighted after sealing the Treble against southern champions Tottenham in the Reserve League Shield.

The three trophy haul, coupled with last season´s Quadruple, means Gerard Piqué and Giuseppe Rossi have won seven trophies in two years.

A number of Rene Meulensteen´s side spoke to MUTV during the post-match celebrations. Here´s what they had to say...

"It was a very nice season, and a nice experience. I think we can get more titles next year. It´s great to play with players like them, they have a lot of quality and good features. I am very proud to be at United. This stadium is the Theatre of Dreams and it is a dream come true to win all these titles here tonight."
Gerard Piqué

"You can´t ask for any more than winning a Treble. All season the lads have worked really hard for this. It´s hard to win it back to back, but we´ve done really well and hopefully we can win it again next season. Winning when you´re young is the best thing you can do, and hopefully we´ll take it into our senior careers."
Ritchie Jones

"It´s a great feeling. To move up to the Reserves is quite a big step, the standard is a lot better and faster. I´ve enjoyed playing for them in the latter stages of the season. Old Trafford is one of the best stadiums in the world; to play here is an honour and I hope my family´s proud."
Danny Rose

"We had a great season and I think we thoroughly deserve this trophy. It was great, it´s an unbelievable feeling and we´ve really enjoyed this campaign. It´s always great to go out and win, and I think we´ve deserved everything we´ve won."
Giuseppe Rossi

"It is a great achievement. I think we played really well today and I don´t think there was ever any doubt we were going to win this game. I hope we can keep going. As a footballer, you can´t be doing much better if you´re always drinking champagne! It´s always good to win trophies, at any level. If you want a good career, you have to win trophies no matter where you are. It´s a special stadium, we´re a special team and I think we deserve it."

United look for quick Diarra deal

Reports in Spain suggest Manchester United are trying to push through a quick deal for Mahamadou Diarra, in order to fend off interest from Real Madrid.

Lyon are insistent that Diarra will not be allowed to leave Stade Gerland, but supremo Jean-Michel Aulas was saying the same about Michael Essien this time last year - and he went on to join Chelsea.

Aulas admitted this week that an offer similar to that of Essien would probably mean he might have to let Diarra leave, although he was not expecting one - so United´s reported move could very well come as a shock.

It is claimed that United are putting together a package that could be worth over €27 million (£18 million) - and Lyon could very well be prepared to do business at that price.

Internazionale have also been long-term admirers, but they would struggle to match United´s financial muscle - leaving just Real as realistic opposition.

Spanish sources, though, claim Real have a trump card in the race - as it is also being reported that the Malian star wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of Old Trafford.

But the turmoil behind the scenes at Madrid, as they need to appoint a new president and coach this summer, means any move for Diarra would have to wait and United are looking to take advantage.

Should United push forward with their interest - as seem likely, then Diarra would be left with a tough decision - as there would be no guarantees that Madrid would even firm up their interest, or indeed whether they would be willing to match the offer from England.

United will obviously have a number of irons in the fire, but Diarra is emerging as Sir Alex Ferguson´s main transfer target - as he looks to sign the world class midfielder that The Red Devils have been crying out for, for much of this season.
