Keane urges O´Shea to get tough
Roy Keane has urged Manchester United star John O´Shea to toughen up.
The 24-year-old Irishman has become a regular in United´s midfield in recent games, and although Keane admits he has been impressed by O´ Shea´s performances, he has told him to keep working on his game.
O´Shea was one of the players Keane criticised in the infamous MUTV interview he gave last year, prior to his acrimonious exit from Old Trafford.
Since Keane´s departure critics have suggested that The Red Devils´ midfield is their weakest link, but the former United captain believes that O´Shea is capable of filling the role.
Now at Celtic, Keane admits that he would like to see his young compatriot improve on the physical side of his game and boss the midfield more.
"I just think he needs to be tougher for the big, crunch games," he advised.
"I saw the highlights of the United and Newcastle game, and I thought he played quite well.
"If he gets tougher, he can do more than a job there. But you have to bear in mind, he´s still young and he´s still improving. He just needs to get tougher, both physically and mentally
NEC want to keep United starlet
NEC Nijmegen are hoping they can keep on-loan starlet David Jones for a further season.
Jones arrived in Holland on a season-long loan in January but after impressing, NEC are hoping Manchester United will allow the youngster to remain at De Goffert until the end of the 2006/07 campaign.
The Dutch side are so happy with Jones that they are also looking at bringing in more of United´s stars for next season.
Tom Heaton, Lee Martin, Souleymane Mamam, Dong Fangzhou and Sylvan Blake, all currently on loan to Belgian side FC Antwerp, visited NEC on Thursday and trained with the club in a bid to impress new coach Mario Been.
"We hope we can loan one or two more players from Manchester United," said NEC´s technical director Leen Looyen.
The club hope to know within a fortnight which of the youngsters will be returning to Holland next season.
Clarets land Red Devil
Burnley have signed Manchester United defender Phil Bardsley on loan for the rest of the season.
The 20-year-old will be available for Saturday´s trip to Stoke City after being involved in Sir Alex Ferguson´s first team as an injury replacement for United captain Gary Neville.
The move to Turf Moor is the Salford-born youngster´s second loan spell away from Old Trafford, having spent four months in Belgium with United´s feeder club Royal Antwerp back in 2004.
His ability to play in the centre of the backline or at right back should prove to be an asset to Burnley, with Ferguson always keen to hand his young players more experience by taking loan spells away from United.
Bardsley is manager Steve Cotterill´s first signing since the Clarets boss put pen-to-paper on a new contract this week.
Fabianski cool on United link
Manchester United are the latest English club to show an interest in Legia Warsaw keeper Lukas Fabianski.
The talented shot-stopper has previously had trials with Arsenal and Southampton and continues to attract admiring glances from the United Kingdom.
After impressing at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level with Poland, the youngster says he is in no rush to leave his homeland.
"If they want me, they will surely return to have talks," he commented recently, when asked about United´s alleged interest.
"But, in the meantime, I want to stay in Warsaw.
"I can learn here under the eyes of a fine professional in Krzysztof Dowhania.
"I do have dreams and plans that I believe, some time, I will realise."
Man Utd : Van der Sar doublé d´un Polonais ? (17/03)
A suivre ?

Neville set to join 500 club
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
GARY NEVILLE: Approaching appearance landmake (of 500).
ALEX Stepney feels Gary Neville will become part of a dying breed when he joins Manchester United´s illustrious 500 club next week.
Providing Neville comes through this weekend´s trip to West Brom unscathed, the Red Devils skipper will become only the eighth player in the club´s history to reach the landmark.
The 31-year-old will be joining an exclusive band which also includes Sir Bobby Charlton, Bill Foulkes, Tony Dunne, Joe Spence, Denis Irwin, Ryan Giggs and Stepney himself.
All eight will be honoured in a new ´500 Club´ suite that United have incorporated into their new £43million quadrant expansion.
With Paul Scholes also closing in on the figure, it will not be long before a ninth framed photograph will be required on the walls of the suite, which will be officially opened in August.
But Stepney is not convinced there will be a need for many more, either at United or anywhere else, in future years given the way the game has changed.
"Someone like Gary is a dying breed," said Stepney, the only goalkeeper in United´s list, who made 539 appearances in a 12-year stint at Old Trafford from 1966.
"In my day, you could win a league title with 14 players, which could never happen now.
Service
"There were plenty of players who had that length of service. Each club had a few of them.
"It is harder these days to reach such a remarkable figure because loyalty, agents and squad rotation makes it so much more difficult to stick around for that length of time.
"You have to be at a club for 10 years or more to be able to play in so many matches and, in the modern game, you do not see many players doing that."
With almost one-third of the new expansion project handed over to `executive´ supporters, United have decided to maintain the club theme throughout the new expansion.
Aside from the 500 club, there will also be other dedicated suites such as The 100 Club, featuring players who have scored more than 100 first-team goals for United.
As even chief executive David Gill would acknowledge, filling all the lounges depends, to a large extent, on United continuing to push for honours.
Although Neville lifted a trophy within three months of his installation as Roy Keane´s successor as captain following the Carling Cup final triumph over Wigan, Stepney knows it is performances in the Premiership and Champions League upon which United will be judged.
Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Howard, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Silvestre, Richardson, Evra, Ronaldo, O´Shea, Fletcher, Giggs, Park, Rooney, Saha, Van Nistelrooy, Rossi.
Manchester United defender Wes Brown will miss the trip to The Hawthorns with a groin injury, so Nemanja Vidic is set to take his place at the back.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will be hoping for a recall up front, but United are unlikely to rest Wayne Rooney.
