Rossi could be next Scholes

Sir Alex Ferguson has tipped Giuseppe Rossi to be his new Paul Scholes.

The diminutive Italian is just starting to make the breakthrough into United´s first team - having bagged his first Premiership goal earlier this season.

Hopes are high at Old Trafford that Rossi - signed from Parma in 2004 - is the genuine article and could soon be a regular in the first team.

Rossi arrived as a striker and was originally likened to Gary Lineker, but Ferguson is already thinking that the US-born starlet could very well develop into an attacking midfielder in the mould of Scholes.

"Giuseppe Rossi is the most natural goalscorer we´ve had come through this club since Paul Scholes, no question about that," said Ferguson.

"He´s a wonderful finisher. He´s not dissimilar to Paul in a way because when Paul first came to the club, he was a centre forward too.

"Then he started to learn the game and dropped into deep positions behind the strikers and scored a heap of goals for the youth teams.

"Giuseppe can play right through, like Paul, and can also drop in. But the big similarity between them is Giuseppe´s cool head in the box.

"He´s such a terrific finisher and that´s something you can´t teach. You can coach some things every day of the week, but some are just naturally gifted."

Rossi is expected to start only his second senior game on Wednesday when United entertain West Brom in the Carling Cup.

MANCHESTER UNITED are ready to make a £750,000 New Year raid for Colchester wonderkid Greg Halford.

Old Trafford scouts watched the versatile Halford score twice in Saturday’s 5-0 demolition of Gillingham.

And that was the THIRD time Fergie’s talent spotters have checked on Halford this season

Mikel going to England ´for good´

Lyn Oslo midfielder John Obi Mikel has quit the club as he continues to hold out for a move to Chelsea.

Although a deal with Manchester United has been agreed, and the midfielder signed a contract with The Red Devils, the Nigerian still has his sights firmly set on playing for the Premiership champions.

The messy saga, one of the most protracted in the history of the game, shows no signs of ending with things being rather more complicated than Mikel appears to view them.

"I have notified Lyn in writing that I won´t do anything more for the club," said the talented teenager to Aftenposten.

"Early Wednesday, I am travelling for good.

"I am going to England.

"I am now hoping that Lyn will release my licence so I can start football training."

There is no prospect of Lyn simply freeing their highly-rated starlet, after brokering a deal with United, and the police have been dragged into the sorry affair.

Mikel´s lawyers have claimed Lyn director Morgan Andersen fabricated the African´s first professional contract with the Oslo outfit.

However, Andersen vehemently denies this accusation and Fifa have already ruled in Lyn´s favour over the document.

Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to still want the 18-year-old, despite the player´s reluctance to head to Old Trafford, as there is the suspicion that Mikel is being coerced into joining Chelsea instead.

Mikel, along with Chindeu Ogbuke and Ezekiel Bala, are risking hefty suspensions from Fifa with their unsanctioned departures.

"If Lyn and the players have not reached an agreement, Fifa will act," warned expert Kenneth Andre Leren on NRK.

"A player can be charged financially and have to pay their club.

"Additionally, they might be suspended worldwide for a certain time."

C´est du plus en plus lamentable... :honte:

Man Utd : Ferguson prie pour Solskjaer (30/11)

Ferguson: A fitting tribute

Sir Alex Ferguson said the Manchester United fans provided the most fitting tribute to George Best during the Carling Cup win over West Brom.

The Red Devils romped to a 3-1 win but the proceedings on the pitch were largely overshadowed by emotional displays of affection from the Old Trafford crowd towards the late Northern Irishman.

The pre-match minute´s silence and musical tributes were well received and Best´s son Calum had tears in his eyes as the fans showed their appreciation for one of their favourite sons.

"It was a good night for us," enthused Ferguson to Sky Sports News. "Everything went well.

"The pre-match tribute to George, I thought was fantastic.

"I think we had a good performance, with very good movement in the match and played some excellent football. Two goals were very well made and well taken.

"We´ve progressed into the quarter finals, and got some young players experience, which is important, so it was a good night for Manchester United overall.

"I´m delighted to see Louis Saha tonight, we know his ability, he´s a fantastic striker and we hope he steers clear of injury. He´s been unlucky when training with France and playing for them, I think they could have done better for him. He´s only had one injury with us but he´s been looking great in training.

"We´re going to need every player I can get in December, we´ve got ten games now we´re in the next round of the cup.

"We all know about his [Giuseppe Rossi´s] potential, he´s a wonderful young player. He´s only 18 and so sharp with his movement and vision. I´m very pleased with him.

"We´re in the last eight and that sums it up. The Carling Cup, now it allows the European teams in later, does give you the opportunity to get to the later stages. We´ve used the young players into the bargain, we´re in the quarter finals and there´s some good teams left so we´ll have a go.

"I think it was great. The supporters throughout tonight provided the most fitting tribute they could have done."

United monitor Aurelio impasse

Valencia defender Fabio Aurelio has revealed that a number of English sides are monitoring his progress with Manchester United thought to be at the head of the queue for his services.

The Brazilian left back, who can also operate in midfield, is in the final year of his contract at the Mestalla and has yet to pen an extension.

His wages are proving to be the stumbling block with Valencia yet to match his demands.

As things stand he will be free to talk to interested parties from January 1, although his agent Juan Figger is scheduled to fly to Spain next week to open a new round of talks with the Primera outfit.

Aurelio insists financial motivations will not be the only factor in his decision on whether to accept a new deal at Valencia, but has made it clear he expects to be paid what he believes he is worth - especially with various English clubs waiting in the wings.

"My agent has told me that several English clubs are interested in me with a view to next season," he told Las Provicias.

"My priority is to improve as a player and I am not only thinking about money.

"However, I also have a family and want to assure our future as well."

Valencia signed the 26-year-old from Sao Paulo back in 2000 and although he has been troubled by injury in recent seasons they will not want to lose him on a free transfer.

United are understandably keen on the player with first-choice left back Gabriel Heinze having been ruled out for the season with a serious knee injury and his absence has exposed a dearth of quality alternatives at Old Trafford.

Si on pouvait prendre Bridge à la place ça serait bien mieux.
