Fergie accused of Mikel ambush
John Shittu, the agent of John Obi Mikel, has accused Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson of attempting to ambush the 18-year-old as the summer´s longest running transfer saga rumbles on.
Ferguson and United chief executive David Gill flew to Norway on Monday to meet with Lyn´s football director Morgan Anderson to finalise a joint submission to Fifa regarding the player´s protracted transfer.
However, Shittu claims that Ferguson was acting surreptitiously and had travelled with the intention of arranging a meeting with Mikel.
"Ferguson was not in Oslo to talk to Lyn. He was there to ambush Mikel," Shittu told VG.
"When Mikel went to the Lyn offices yesterday he was asked to go to Stein Hoff´s office to discuss the last match.
"Ferguson was in the office and Mikel was shocked."
Both Anderson and Ferguson have strenuously denied that the latter intended to convene a meeting with Mikel.
"I would like to stress that at no stage was there any intention to hold a secret meeting between the player and Ferguson," said Anderson.
"Mikel´s lawyer has told us that we should not arrange meetings between Mikel and United.
"We are following that but this shows the type of person Shittu is, he is not as trustworthy as either Gill or Ferguson."
Ferguson is also critical of Shittu´s involvement in the acrimonious impasse.
"We feel there are some restrictions here and that is sad because he is only a young lad," said Ferguson.
"I believe that Shittu is responsible for this.
"We have signed a contract with Lyn and followed him since he was 16.
"It´s a tricky situation but it´s up to Fifa to settle it now. We will be happy with their decision and follow it."
That decision is expected to be reached by the end of October, with Shittu insisting that his client had been bullied into signing an agreement with United.

United plan Keane talks
Manchester United are rumoured to be ready to offer Roy Keane a coaching role at Old Trafford.
Newspaper reports claim the Republic of Ireland international, out of action with a broken foot, is due to have talks with United officials in December over his future role.
A full-time coaching position is on the agenda as Keane is already showing signs that he could be a top manager having worked under two of the game´s greats in Brian Clough and Sir Alex Ferguson.
There is no suggestion that Keane is ready to call time on his playing career yet, despite his constant battle with injuries, but United are thought to want to safeguard against their captain leaving without being tied to a commitment to cutting his coaching teeth at Old Trafford.
The 34-year-old already enjoys huge influence at the club and talk of a summer bust-up with Ferguson was brushed aside by the Scot who admitted having numerous disagreements with his abrasive skipper.
Paul Scholes, meawhile, has joined the list of players bemoaning Keane´s latest injury setback.
The former England international, struggling to recapture his best form himself, appreciates losing his midfield partner is a huge blow to United.
"He´s a massive player and we´ll miss him," said Scholes. "He puts so many tackles and headers in and wins everything."
Gravesen happy at Real
Thomas Gravesen´s agent has played down talk linking him with a move back to England.
Reports emanating from Spain and England have suggested that Manchester United and Everton are battling it out to sign the Real Madrid star.
Speculation over Gravesen´s future at Real has intensified after he missed last weekend´s defeat to Espanyol.
The doubts over the long-term future of Real coach Wanderley Luxemburgo has also seen speculation over the futures of a number of players.
United have held a long-term interest in Gravesen and tried to sign him before he moved to Real, while Everton are believed to have made an enquiry to take him back to Goodison Park on loan in the summer.
The player´s agent John Sivebaek is unaware of the reports and insists Gravesen is happy in the Spanish capital.
"I know nothing about the reports," Sivebaek told skysports.com
"Thomas has three more years on his contract and he is happy there.
"He is concentrating on playing in the Real team.
"We are not thinking about leaving."
Big guns eye ´New Ronaldinho´
Barcelona are reportedly unconcerned that Manchester United and Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Giovanni Dos Santos.
The Mexican youngster has been one of the stars of the World Under-17 Championships in Peru and his performances have alerted the Premiership giants to his abilities.
Dos Santos´s agent has confirmed the interest from Old Trafford and Highbury but Mexican sides America and Monterrey are also said to be keen on landing the talented teenager.
The Mexican captain may lack strength and is only 16 years old but he is being tipped for a massive future in the game, with some pundits dubbing him ´The new Ronaldinho´.
Dos Santos, who is the son of Brazilian ace Zizinho, is currently with the Barcelona B squad. His father played in Mexico for America, and impressively in the indoor league, during his professional career and that is why he represents Le Tricolores.
Barca, who lost Cesc Fabregas to Arsenal and Gerard Pique to Manchester United before they had appeared for the first team, are confident they will retain Dos Santos as he is under contract for the next four years.
"He is an explosive player and has great attacking vision," said Mexico coach Jesus Ramirez recently.
Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard will be hoping he can call upon the precocious youngster in the coming years.
Giggs will always be a Red
Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has declared his intention to see out his career at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old Welshman signed a new two-year contract extension last May but has been limited to just 21 minutes of action in three substitute appearances for United so far this season.
Nevertheless Giggs is determined to win his place back in Sir Alex Ferguson´s team and has targeted more silverware after 14 trophy-laden years with The Red Devils.
"I can´t see a situation where I would have to look away from Manchester United," he said in Giggs: The Autobiography.
"I still feel if I am playing to the best of my ability I will be in the team and still have enough faith in myself to believe I will be here for another three years.
"In the short term, my goal is to get back in the starting line up.
"Looking beyond that there are more medals and titles to win and I intend to be a big part of that."
Giggs also revealed the determination that has been the driving force behind his career and the reason why he was so frustrated after being omitted from last season´s FA Cup final side to face Arsenal.
"I never really look back - it is not the eight championships which drive you on, it is the two or three that you didn´t win," he added.
"When the gaffer named the team for the FA Cup final, I couldn´t think ´ah well, I have won it four times, I am not that bothered.´ I wanted a fifth."
