Il devrait quand meme jouer ce soir, a priori.

Shittu attitude softening

John Shittu, John Obi Mikel´s representative, appears to be softening his stance on the Nigerian teenager´s future destination.

Although Mikel signed for Manchester United, Chelsea were left fuming by the deal and offered a more lucrative contract to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Lyn Oslo are convinced they have done a deal with United and, after intervention from Fifa, the chances of the midfielder heading for Manchester appear to be increasing.

Shittu has always been adamant that the 19-year-old wants to join Chelsea but had positive discussions with Lyn director Morgan Andersen, who has consistently insisted that the player should join The Red Devils.

"Mikel can choose which club he wants to play for," Shittu told VG.

"We don´t care about the money, we are thinking of the lad´s career.

"We will see what happens. It was a very positive meeting. It was good to meet Morgan face-to-face and the atmosphere was positive."

In terms of a career move, Old Trafford would seem to provide a quicker route to the first team. United desperately need a replacement for Roy Keane while Chelsea have bought Michael Essien to add to one of the best holding midfielders in the business in Claude Makelele.

"It was a positive meeting John Shittu, the player, [Lyn coach] Henning Berg and I had," said Andersen.

Mikel will play for the Oslo outfit against Odd Grenland this weekend and will continue in the Norwegian Tippeliga until the season draws to a close in November.

A move to England will occur in January; it just still remains to be seen whether that will be with United or Chelsea.

"I am here to play football for Lyn," stated Mikel.

"That is my job.

"I have trained well and am in good shape. It´s up to the coach if I shall play."

Fergie´s Vieira revelation

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he dismissed the chance to sign Patrick Vieira from Arsenal in the summer.

The Manchester United manager has been an admirer of the French skipper for some time and tried to bring him to Old Trafford on several occasions in a bid to strike a huge psychological blow to the club who were for so long United´s chief rivals.

However, after growing tired of Vieira often questioning his future before deciding to stay at Highbury, Ferguson decided not to pursue the matter when informed the new Juventus star would be available.

It leaves United still chasing a top-quality midfielder, and Michael Ballack of Bayern Munich remains Ferguson´s favoured option, but the Scot admits there are not too many players out there who fit the bill.

"In an ideal world, we would like to add another experienced midfield player in the mould of Roy Keane to our squad," he told United´s official magazine.

"I don´t see anyone out there at the moment.

"We got told that Vieira was available at the end of last season, but we had been down that road so many times, where we´ve been told he wants to sign for United and then he ends up staying at Arsenal.

"So I dismissed it. And then, of course, it became a reality.

"Whether Arsenal would have sold him to us is another matter.

"I don´t think they would have."

Fight Over Obi Jobby
Chelsea are still battling it out with Manchester United for the signature of wonderkid John Obi Mikel. The Norwegian midfielder’s future will not become clear until FIFA have finished their probe into his alleged agreement with United. John Shittu, Mikel’s agent, claims his player can choose which club to play for. However, until the legality of his United deal is decided, Mikel, 19, cannot decide who to sign for when the transfer window opens again in January. Chelsea are still firmly in the hunt and have complied with all of FIFA’s requests for paperwork and information relating to the case. Although Mikel signed for United, Chelsea were left fuming and quickly offered the youngster a more lucrative contract. His club Lyn Oslo claim their deal with United is legitimate and there are signs the world governing body will agree. However, FIFA remain cagey and a spokesman said: “Following requests of the parties involved, we are now looking into the circumstances of Mikel’s relationship with Lyn Oslo and Manchester United.” Shittu said: “Mikel can choose which club he wants to play for. We don’t care about the money, we are thinking of the lad’s career.” Mikel will play in Norway until the season closes in November. But a move to United or Chelsea is certain to take place in January.
Max Short, The Sun

J´espère que la Fifa va s´occuper de Chelsea, c´est vraiment lamentable comme comportement.

Former United star dies

Former Manchester United captain Noel Cantwell has died at the age of 73.

The Republic of Ireland defender also captained his country, but is best remembered for lifting the FA Cup with United in 1963.

Sir Matt Busby signed Cantwell from West Ham in 1960 as he rebuilt his side following the Munich air disaster and he went on to make 144 appearances, scoring eight goals.

Cantwell won 36 caps for his country and scored 14 goals, and also represented them at cricket.

He went on to coach Coventry and Peterborough before moving to America, but he still named the FA Cup success as his brightest moment.

"In 1963 we won the Cup and I happened to be captain. It was a great day," he told RTE Radio last November.

"Leicester were favourites to win it. But we always played in flashes and we always thought that Wembley would suit us.

"I think I had only taken over the captaincy early in that season. The turmoil at the club was reflected in how many times the captain changed. But that was a very special day at Wembley.

"I remember Matt (Busby) telling me he wanted me to be coach at Old Trafford. I was very excited. But it never materialised."

Mikel back to square one

The farcical situation with John Obi Mikel has slipped back into a state of limbo, after signs that the midfielder would head for Manchester United have been dashed.

John Shittu, the Nigerian´s representative, is standing firm that his client wants to join Chelsea and has never wanted to go to Old Trafford, despite signing a contract with The Red Devils.

Lyn are sticking to their view that they have struck a deal with United and do not want to do business with the Premiership champions, even though Mikel will receive a far greater salary at Stamford Bridge.

The messy affair has lurched back to square one even though Shittu´s attitude towards moving the teenager to Manchester seemed to have softened.

"The only thing I can say to you is he never said he´s going to Manchester United," claimed Shittu to Sky Sports News.

"He never said that to anybody so if Lyn are saying that to you, I don´t know where they got that from.

"When we spoke yesterday over dinner, he reiterated the same thing - he doesn´t want to go to Manchester United.

"He has to decide, it´s not for me to decide for him. I´m just there for him as his agent.

"I believe things will be sorted very soon. Maybe some of the parties involved want to prolong it but we´re not interested in that; we´re only interested in the player.

"The player´s reiterated so many times that he doesn´t want to join Manchester United. I, personally, want to make sure what he wants is what happens."

Lyn director Morgan Andersen just wants the deal with United to be ratified.

"I don´t know if he will ever be a Chelsea player," he told Sky Sports News. "But I can see that he has a four-year contract from the time he has a work permit in England to play for Manchester United.

"I think that was an excellent choice from him, they are known for using young players and I think he will succeed there.

"No [we won´t sell him to Chelsea]. We have an agreement directly with Manchester and we don´t fall out of agreements. We worked together very hard and made sure it was what he wanted to do before he signed.

"Everything has been done in a proper way."

It is seeming more and more inevitable that Mikel will somehow secure a move to Chelsea as surely United will not want to buy a player who claims he has no interest in pulling on the famous red shirt, no matter how big his talent.
