The ex-captain of the Brazilian U-17 side was the maiden product, of the partnership agreement etched between Manchester United and São Paulo. The Red Devils sealed the move in 2003, much to the teenager´s surprise; " I was on the beach when I was asked to report to the club, because Manchester United wanted me," he revealed. " I thought it was a joke but I´m accustomed to the idea now," added the powerfully built youngster.

The English giants initially agreed to allow Rincón, to continue his development at the renowned São Paulo youth academy, for three years. Twelve months short of this expiration period, United retracted on its decision, in order to accelerate the player´s switch to Sporting Lisbon - one of the its principal feeder clubs. " It is best to give him the push in his career," commented United´s academy chief, Les Kershaw, after São Paulo was instructed to release him.

Rincón – whose contract with the Old Trafford outfit is due to expire in 2010 ( a two-year extension option was included) – will be registered as a Sporting Lisbon player for the start of the 2005/06 season, and is keen on making a swift first-team breakthrough at the José Alvalade Stadium. Although he is capable of operating in a number of positions, including central defence and midfield, the position that he has occupied with most frequency during his amateur career, is the left wing-back one.

Although he is keen to make an impact in the Portuguese SuperLiga, it´s in Northern England that Rincón sees his long-term future. " I really like the English language and have been learning it for some time now. I have watched Manchester United on television many times and have seen Silvestre, Ferdinand, Van Nistelrooy and others. It´s a good team but I want to make the first team there as soon as possible."

Rincón was so nicknamed, because of a physical resemblance to Colombian legend Freddy Rincón – ironically, a former star of São Paulo´s state rivals, Corinthians. Tall and muscular, the youngster´s brawn serves him well, but equally eye-catching, is his explosive speed and unflagging raids down the left flank. His position as captain of the Seleção´s under-17 side, was reflective of his inspirational personality and the respect that he commands amongst his team-mates.

There is no doubt that Rincón is one of Brazilian football´s best regarded emerging talents, and many experts believe he will go all the way. If his own expectancies are anything to go by, then he has a big future in football. In a testament to his incredible self-belief, the 18-year-old already has designs on Roberto Carlos´ place in the full Brazilian National Team! " I want to defend Brazil in the World Cup in Germany. If I don´t go in 2006, I will make the squad in one of the next ones," he confidently predicted.

Je suis curieux de voir ce que va donner Rincon au sporting, ça fait quelques temps que j´entends parler de lui mais je l´ai jamais vu jouer.
C´est bien pour l´avenir si c´est un defenseur gauche reste plus qu´à trouver un bon jeune à droite et on a une bonne arrière garde d´avenir avec lui, Piqué et Spector.

on a sans doute une meilleure attaque qu´eux . mais un millieu lampard , essien , makelele est a des millieux d´année lumiére du notre . ..

et aprés avoirvu le match je sui assez inquiet pour keano . Il est lent n´est plus keano. et dérriére on a toujours personne . Il a vraiment ralenti le jeu et par conséquence scholes a pas été génial . ..

heureusement notre attaque est au top mais est ce que ca suffira

Obi still the one for Fergie

Sir Alex Ferguson remains convinced that Lyn midfielder John Obi Mikel will become a Manchester United player.

The Nigerian´s future has been shrouded in uncertainty as he is currently being investigated by Fifa, after he walked out of Norwegian outfit Lyn claiming they pressured him into signing for United.

Unveiled as a United new boy in April, this announcement has since looked premature as the player has claimed Lyn sold him against his wishes.

Mikel has subsequently found himself involved in a tug-of-war between Chelsea and United, stating that he has always had a desire to move to Stamford Bridge and not Old Trafford.

The promising 19-year-old has claimed that Chelsea have paid his expenses and helped support his family for the last two years and that he wants Fifa to cancel the contract he signed with United, so he can move to the West London big-spenders.

Despite Mikel´s apparent wishes, Fifa have stated that his contract with Lyn is entirely valid and have ordered the player to make an immediate return to his current paymasters.

It has yet to be made clear whether Mikel will link up with Manchester United in January - as was the condition of the original deal struck.

Ferguson remains confident that a satisfactory outcome will be manifest - whereby United land their man.

´´I know Fifa are spending a lot of time speaking to all the people who have been involved, including the ( Norwegian) police,´´ said Ferguson.

´´And they need to as it has to be a thorough investigation.

´´The fact of the matter is that Mikel is a Manchester United player.

´´The deal was struck with Lyn and the contracts were signed.

´´There is no question in our mind that we have done everything in the right manner.´´

Faut pas oublier que mine de rien on jouait les 4es de l´an dernier. Certes Liverpool ou Tottenham peuvent prétendre à cette place, mais Everton a recruté Phil au milieu donc on jouait une équipe correcte.

Keano n´a plus le rayennement d´il y a quelques années et Scholes a eu du mal à se situer, mais Fletcher a été assez présent, tout comme Park et Rooney.

Comparer à Chelsea n´a pas vraiment de sens puisqu´on les jouera que deux fois dans l´année, c´est face aux autres clubs que se gagnera le championnat a priori. Et à part les équipes citées ( + Arsenal) le milieu de MU est au-dessus du lot. J´ai regardé un bout du match de Tottenham d´ailleurs et heureusement pour eux que Davids signent car tous leurs milieux sont rés portés vers l´avant et pas forcément faits pour récupérer des ballons. Newcastle faut voir...Chelsea a souffert face à Wigan donc à l´abri de rien.

MU a surtout souffert en début de 2e mi-temps, avec un gros pressing d´Everton mais tout au long du match on a su poser le jeu, faire tourner le ballon, jouer dans les intervalles, etc. Le jeu était pas mauvais ( surtout sans Cristiano), et le retour de Heinze devrait apporter un peu de " rage" en plus défensivement.

Je pense que tout reste assez ouvert, tirer des conclusions aprés un match serait un peu rapide. Les seuls moment où Everton était dangereux c´est sur des longs ballons vers notre surface. On verra comment les choses évoluent, Keano a officiellement ( ou presque) annoncé qu´il arrêtait avec MU en fin de saison et Mikel pourrait arriver à la trêve, donc ça bouge un peu.

Chelsea n´a toujours pas réussi à depasser le record de transfert de Rio, je suis un peu déçu. ^^

Fergie à l´air confiant concernant Mikel, il a peut-etre changé d´avis ( encore) sur le fait de venir chez nous.

A mon avis, a ce stade la, Ferguie compte surtout sur l´arrivee de Mikel.

Fergie fears for Ole future

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admits he holds fears for the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian hit-man has endured a nightmare time with injury and has not played for Ferguson´s first team since the 2004 FA Cup final victory over Millwall.

After undergoing surgery in Scandinavia for a persistent knee injury, the 32-year-old is close to being back in contention.

However, Ferguson concedes that he still needs to be convinced that the Old Trafford favourite will be able to return to the type of form that once made him one of the Premiership´s finest.

´´I´m not sure he´ll play for the first team again,´´ said Ferguson.

´´You can´t be when a guy is 31 and has been out for a year.´´
