Fergie quiet on Owen link
Sir Alex Ferguson has refused to be drawn on whether Manchester United are interested in signing Michael Owen.
Real Madrid had claimed The Red Devils had expressed an interest in the striker, who has been told he can leave the Bernabeu.
United issued a rebuttal of Real´s claim, while Ferguson was not willing to expand on whether he wants to take the England international to Old Trafford.
" I´m not answering that," said the United boss when he was asked at a press conference if he holds an interest in the former Liverpool hit-man.
" I´ll tell you why. I´ve seen the nonsense you have written all year. There is no way I would give you a helping hand in that respect.
" I am not going to make any comment whatsoever. You need to ask Real Madrid that really as I´m sitting in Manchester."
Owen has been forwarded as the man to solve the difficulties which plagued United last season when they wasted many chances in most games, primarily in the FA Cup final against Arsenal.
Part of their profligacy was down to the lack of sharpness of Ruud van Nistelrooy but Ferguson feels the Dutch predator is now back to his best.
He added: " With it being a fragmented season last season, his goalscoring ratio was nothing like it´s been in previous years - that´s the difference.
" He is fit and looking terrific. I expect, and know, he´ll deliver and it´s going to be a great boost to us all.
" I think Ruud can play with anyone, good players do that. Ruud is a natural-born centre forward.
" There are some good combinations for us up front I feel but, at the end of the day, when Ruud hits his goalscoring form it will make a massive difference for us.
" I think he is the best finisher I´ve seen in my time as a manager. He´s an absolutely incredible finisher."
Ferguson also paid tribute to midfield duo Phil Neville and Kleberson, who have recently left United to join Everton and Besiktas, respectively.
The Scot continued: " It was a major decision for Phil to leave. He goes with everyone´s best wishes.
" He´ll do well. I think it´ll be a great signing for Everton. He´s been a fantastic professional, he has been a fixture here since he was a kid.
" It must be very difficult to make these decisions to leave our club. He´s 28 and could have five or six years at the very top so it´s probably the best decision for him.
" He ( Kleberson) has made the decision and I think he simply didn´t have the luck here.
" Several injuries knocked him back. It was a step forward and two back and that was unfortunate.
" He is a very good player and I´m sure he will do very well at Besiktas. He is a good pro, a good character.
" Like a lot of players, with a big transfer he needed a break and he never got it. Hopefully, he will get the breaks now he goes to Besiktas."
