Stewart completes Hibs move
Hibernian have completed the signing of Michael Stewart from Manchester United. Stewart, 24, who played on loan with Hearts last season, has signed a one-year deal at Easter Road. He told the club´s website: " Tony Mowbray is a manager who is clearly going places and I am delighted to have been offered this opportunity." Mowbray added: " I have long admired Michael having watched him as a young boy at Manchester United reserves. At Hibernian we play a style of football that I am sure will suit his game."

Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton said he was reassured after talks with Joel, Avi and Bryan Glazer.

" I´m like any other football fan. I´ve been waking up in the night wondering what was going on," he said.

" But they allayed a lot of my fears. I asked them questions about the future of the club - and the future of people who were wrapped up in the club.

" They were receptive to everything and said they´d do everything they could to make this a successful football club."

The trio reportedly left Old Trafford on Thursday afternoon, following a day at the stadium during which there were no repeats of Wednesday night´s scenes in which that had to flee angry protesters at Old Trafford.

The Glazers arrived at the ground before 0800 BST to continue their fact-finding tour of the club following their father Malcolm´s £790m takeover.

Later, club director Sir Bobby Charlton, ex-chairman Martin Edwards and club secretary Maurice Watkins arrived to meet them.

The Glazers also visited Manchester United´s Megastore behind closed doors - although staff would not disclose details of any purchases they may have made.

On Wednesday, fans opposed to the Glazers takeover of the club had gathered outside Old Trafford, many chanting " die Glazer, die" and erecting makeshift barricades to try and stop the brothers leaving.

Police used batons and dogs to clear an exit, with the brothers leaving in a decoy police van.

The Glazers had originally planned to leave in the same blacked-out people carriers in which they had arrived.

The protests also forced them to abandon plans to stay in a city-centre Manchester hotel. Two arrests followed - one 19-year-old for possession of a CS gas spray can and a 15-year-old was cautioned for causing criminal damage to a police vehicle.

" Police were forced to draw batons to clear a path for the vehicles," said a spokesman for Greater Manchester Police.

The three Glazer brothers are expected to return to the United States on Thursday and have given no indication of when they will return.

But they are expected to outline their plans for the club on MUTV on Friday.

Joel´s transfer pledge

Joel Glazer has pledged to back manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the transfer market following his arrival in England.

Glazer, son of new owner Malcolm, is also set to declare a willigness to attend every match next season, something that is bound to spark more stormy scenes following the disturbances around Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

There are concerns the takeover will mean United can no longer compete in the top end of the transfer market due to the amount of debt taken on by the Glazers.

The first forays into the market this summer have seen Edwin van der Sar and Park Ji-Sung arrive but there do not appear to be any massive signings on the horizon.

Yet Glazer claims he will support Ferguson if he identifies expensive targets and there will not be a limit of £25 million per year to spend on new recruits.

" We are going to provide the manager with the resources necessary to field the best team," Glazer told United´s official website.

" When I read about caps and hands being tied, it´s very frustrating. You can´t have caps in this game, in any sport.

" Spending wisely on the right players is what´s kept the club so successful.

" Nobody was more excited last year when the club signed Wayne Rooney than us, but if that situation arises again, this club will be in a position to go after that player and bring him to Old Trafford because we know the players love to play here and the club will be in a position to do that absolutely.

" It doesn´t matter what the situation is, there has to be some restraint but if it is the right situation, if the manager feels it is the right situation, you have to facilitate that."

Glazer, likely to be the most prominent member of his family where United are concerned, will speak to the fans via MUTV in an interview on Friday evening.

He is likely to reveal he will be present at every home and away game next term, which comes as something of a surprise as it will surely mean him uprooting from his Florida base.

Staff have also been told it will be business as usual at the club, although there will surely be changes if the Glazers are to meet their substantial financial targets in the years to come.

> D´après ce que dit Joel Glazer, on aura pas de limite pour les transferts.

Ronaldo happy to stay

Manchester United star Ronaldo has pledged to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese ace had been stalling on contract talks, with the player seeking parity among the high earners at the club.

Ronaldo has proved to be a major hit with The Red Devils since joining the club as a teenager from Sporting Lisbon two years ago and the club are keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

There had been fears that with contract talks stalling it could lead to a move from either Real Madrid or Barcelona for the fleet-footed winger.

However, Ronaldo insists he is happy at United and expects to sign a new deal soon.

" We have spoken about the important questions and I believe that I will sign with Manchester United, but still I have not signed the contract to date," Ronaldo told O Jogo.

" No one from Manchester United have spoken to me while in the Algarve.

" The negotiations are going well. My agent Jorge Mendes is responsible for this and I expect a happy solution.

" I am happy to sign, but I have two more years on my contract. The proposition is for another three years.

" I am settled at Manchester United, but if the club decides my exit, there is nothing I can do.

" It is the decision of the coach, but I am happy at United because this is the club where I want to follow.

" It is difficult to talk of a contract for the whole of your career like Carlos Queiroz said.

" No one knows the future, but I intend to fulfil my contract.

" I reiterate that I am calm about my future."

Meanwhile, two United strikers are being linked with possible moves away from Old Trafford, with Alan Smith thought to be attracting interest from Newcastle United and Louis Saha a reported target for Everton.

Newcastle are thought to be weighing up a £7 million bid for Smith, as they look for a strike partner for Alan Shearer.

Magpies boss Graeme Souness is in the market for a new striker, with Craig Bellamy set to be offloaded and Patrick Kluivert leaving at the end of last season before heading to Spanish outfit Valencia.

Souness is a big fan of Smith and would love to team him up with Shearer, but the England international has always pledged to stay at United and fight for his place, despite failing to hold down a regular place in the side.

Saha has been linked with a shock season-long loan move to Everton.

Reports on Friday have suggested that David Moyes has lined up a move for the Frenchman, as he prepares for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Saha endured a frustrating time with injury last term and he is well down the pecking order at United.

However, it seems unlikely that United would be willing to let him leave on loan, with the player keen to fight for his place.

Moyes seals Saha loan
Manchester United striker Louis Saha is heading to Everton on a one-year loan deal. The injury-plagued Frenchman is eager to revive his flagging career after 18 months of Old Trafford misery. And Everton boss David Moyes is convinced Saha can spearhead his team’s Champions League challenge.

Saha is bait for Essien
Louis Saha is the possible makeweight in a Manchester United swoop for Lyon´s Michael Essien. United recently refused Fulham´s request to take back Saha on a 12-month loan. And the latest word from inside Old Trafford is that the striker will be returning to France - if a swap for the £20m-valued midfielder can be agreed.

Sou targets Smith as Toon face striker crisis
Newcastle have made Alan Smith their No.1 transfer target as the pressure mounts on manager Graeme Souness to bring in new signings. Souness is poised to test Manchester United´s determination to keep Smith with a £7million bid. Newcastle are desperate to bring in a proven goal-scorer and Souness believes Smith´s aggressive style would make him the ideal partner for Alan Shearer and a favourite with the St James´ Park fans. The former Leeds striker insists he is happy at Old Trafford despite only starting half their games last season. But he knows he needs to be playing regular Premiership football to boost his World Cup prospects.

Glazers: Fergie´s Hands Will Not Be Tied

Manchester United´s new owners have given Sir Alex Ferguson the green light to chase the world’s most expensive players.

Non-executive director Joel Glazer says press reports of the transfer budget being capped at £25million per season are “absolutely not true.”

”We are going to provide the manager with the resources necessary to field the best team,” said Glazer, in an exclusive interview for MUTV and ManUtd.com.

”When I read about caps and hands being tied it’s very frustrating. You can’t have caps in this game, in any sport. Things change.

”Nobody was more excited than us last year when the club signed Wayne Rooney. If that situation arises again this club will be in a position to go after that player and to bring him to Old Trafford.”

Joel Glazer admitted there would still be some restraint, but this would only be in keeping with the club’s past record of prudence in the transfer market.

”That’s what has kept this club so successful over the years, spending wisely on the right players,” said Glazer.

”It doesn’t matter what the situation is, you can get reckless and it can get the club in trouble. But if the manager feels it’s the right situation ( to buy a player), then you have to facilitate that.

”I think the supporters appreciate it if you’re doing everything you can to put a successful team on the pitch. I think people are forgiving if they know you’re doing that.

”This ( club) is a treasure of the community, of the country and followed throughout the football world so you have to take that very seriously. You have to show your commitment on the pitch.

”We’ll give the manager and the chief executive the tools they need to do their job. That’s always been the case here and we’re going to carry that on. If we make sure they have what they need, then the rest usually takes care of itself.”

MUTV, United´s official television channel, will show the full 30-minute interview with Joel Glazer from 18:00 BST on Friday 1 July. For subscription information, please click here.

Extracts from the interview will also be shown on MU.tv, the club’s online video service. Please click here for details. Meanwhile, a full transcript of the interview will be published on ManUtd.com.

Saha linked with Everton switch

Manchester United striker Louis Saha has been linked with a season-long loan move to Everton as boss David Moyes says he wants four more new signings.
The 26-year-old is down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and Moyes is interested in taking him to Goodison Park, according to reports.

Moyes revealed he is hopeful of two more signings before leaving for a pre-season trip to Austria on Tuesday.

He has landed Simon Davies from Spurs and Denmark defender Per Kroldrup.

" I am confident that we will have more new faces," Moyes told the Liverpool Echo. " I don´t want to put a time-scale on anything.

" But I hope to have at least a couple more new players by next week."

Everton have been linked with Roma defender Matteo Ferrari, but while Moyes admits the player has been watched, he is not currently on their list of targets.

The Scot has dismissed rumours linking him with Grazer AK midfielder Rene Aufhauser and Juventus midfielder Stephen Appiah, who has been interesting Middlesbrough.
