Si Mikel fait bien le championnat du monde des moins de 20 ans, il est en finale contre l´argentine.

Fergie: Ronaldo will sign

Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted Cristiano Ronaldo will sign a new contract with Manchester United, as speculation continues to surround striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Ferguson is having to contend with unsettling rumours about two of United´s biggest stars as he puts the players through their paces in a pre-season training camp in the Algarve.

With Edwin van der Sar and Park Ji-sung the only new arrivals at Old Trafford thus far, much of the tabloid talk in recent days has centred on players leaving the club.

Ronaldo, yet to sign a new deal and known to be frustrated with his comparatively low salary, is interesting Real Madrid and has also been linked with Barcelona.

Ferguson is determined to build a team around the exciting Portugal international and Wayne Rooney, and is convinced the youngster will commit his future to The Red Devils.

" There is no chance of him leaving the club," Ferguson told A Bola. " He has three more years on his contract and he is definitely going to renew."

Meanwhile, van Nistelrooy is being linked with a move to Milan in the Italian press.

The Rossoneri are considering the Dutchman as an alternative if they fail to land top target Alberto Gilardino of Parma.

Van Nistelrooy was disappointed with his performances towards the end of last season, particularly in the FA Cup final, but did stress he wants to continue in Manchester during an interview whilst on international duty with Holland.

Talk of Jon Dahl Tomasson being included in any bid would seem to indicate that a deal is highly unlikely at this stage.

Joel pleased with London trip

Joel, Avi and Bryan Glazer have all arrived in London to hold talks with Manchester United chief executive David Gill.

The three sons of Red Devils owner Malcolm Glazer are members of the newly-constructed board at Old Trafford and will outline their future plans with Gill.

Malcolm Glazer is unlikely to head to England in the forseeable future due to the animosity shown towards the American tycoon following his controversial buy-out of one of the world´s most famous clubs.

It has been reported that the Glazers also met with sports minister Richard Caborn and representatives from the Premier League and Football Association.

The move will be designed to allay fears that have already been expressed by Caborn that the game in general is not adversely affected by the takeover.

Glazer senior has taken on an enormous amount of debt in order to fund the capture of United and the club´s supporters have been left angered and bewildered by the lack of communication on the part of the American owner.

There has been no great description of any plans for the future but it is anticipated that the three sons´ trip to the English capital may finally lead to some sustained and meaningful dialogue that is pushed out to the media.

Indeed, Joel Glazer has commented: " We have had some really positive meetings.

" We are delighted to have met the game´s leading administrators and the sports minister so early into our time at United and we are grateful to them all for making the time to see us.

" There´s been a lot in the UK press about us in the last 18 months and this has been an invaluable chance to tell the men who run the game what the truth is.

" I hope they are reassured by our experience in sport and our passion to keep Manchester United successful."

The early signs are that FA chief executive Brian Barwick was impressed by the Glazers following the meeting at Soho Square.

Presumably, the next step will be to issue statements of intent regarding the new owners´ plans to the supporters of the Manchester outfit.

>> On va bientot connaitre les plans de Glazer pour MU avec un peu de chance.

GLAZERS WON´T THREATEN TV DEAL

Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick and his counterpart at the Premier League, Richard Scudamore, have spoken enthusiastically about their meeting with the Glazer family.

Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer´s sons Joel, Avi and Bryan held discussions with officials at Soho Square with Old Trafford chief executive David Gill also present at the meeting.

The signs are that the football authorities are happy with the vision for the future at United and their fears regarding the takeover have been largely dispelled.

First and foremost, the Glazers claim to have no desire to break up the collective Premier League television rights deal.

" This was the first opportunity we have had to meet with the new owners at Manchester United and we are pleased to have been able to sit down with them," explained Barwick.

" We enjoyed a very constructive meeting in which the Manchester United officials addressed the many important questions we had to ask them."

Sports minister Richard Caborn was also met by the Glazers, and he was pleased that there will be no attempt to break away from the TV rights deal.

" I am reassured of the conversation on collective selling of Premier League TV rights and their experience of sport in the US," stated Caborn.

" I hope we can retain an ongoing dialogue."

Scuadmore, meanwhile, spoke of " common ground" in terms of hopes and plans from United and the Premier League.

It might come as some relief to United supporters who have feared the club will lose its identity under the American tycoon and is liable to hit financial trouble due to the debts accumulated by the takeover.

" There was an open exchange where they detailed their motives and aspirations for the club and we shared our strategic objectives for the Premier League," revealed Scudamore.

" I am pleased to report that there is a great deal of common ground between us.

" Crucially, on the matter of collective selling of our television rights, we have received an unequivocal commitment to continue on the current basis.

" Since the formation of the Premier League, Manchester United FC has played a key role in shaping its fortunes and I am confident the club and its new owners are committed to continuing this."

Foot - Transferts : Ferguson veut garder Ronaldo
