Ruud van Nistelrooy is distraught Manchester United will not sell him to Real Madrid. Sunsport revealed last month how Van Nistelrooy had asked Fergie if he could go. The United boss told the Dutch striker he would have to stay put. But Van Nistelrooy, 28, is angling for a move to Real and his agent Roger Linse has appealed to Fergie to let his man leave. However, Fergie reacted with fury to Linse’s request. Van Nistelrooy and Linse hoped they could engineer a swap deal which would entail England striker Michael Owen switching from the Bernabeu to Old Trafford. Real are touting Owen around but United coach Carlos Queiroz says the Red Devils do not want Owen — which is a bitter blow to Owen as Chelsea do not want him either. It was also a blow to Van Nistelrooy, who now faces a frosty welcome on his return to training. He struggled with injury last term but his body language, especially in the FA Cup final penalty shoot-out defeat by Arsenal, also suggested he had served his time. A United insider told Sunsport: “The whole of Europe knows Van Nistelrooy wants a move. But there are not that many clubs available to him other than Real. If he does not get what he wants he might have to accept he will have to knuckle down at United.” Van Nistelrooy only has one last card left to play and that is to formally ask for a transfer.

Reds start team-building in the sun
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
UNITED begin their rebuilding programme in Portugal today, as Sir Alex Ferguson sets about dethroning Chelsea.
The Reds first team squad jet out to the sun for a training camp and team spirit-strengthening exercise, including the players´ families.
The sunshine trip has, allegedly, not got 100 per cent backing within the squad, but Fergie is determined to get his charges firing on all cylinders from the first whistle this campaign.
The Reds´ boss wants his XI hitting the ground running in the Champions League qualifier in the days running up to the August 13 Premiership opener at Goodison against Everton.
Last term, United were left behind in the blocks and never caught up with eventual champions Chelsea.
The old spirit fostered by the Class of `92 and Roy Keane appears to need a top-up, with so many newcomers in recent seasons, and Ferguson aims to make the sojourn to Portugal work.
But one of his summer buys has already been excused the holiday-cum-training camp.
Park Ji-Sung has returned to Seoul, in South Korea, having successfully completed his medical and £4m, four-year deal last week.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will celebrate his 29th birthday on Friday while he´s in Portugal, amid rumours yet again that Real Madrid are attempting to prise him away from Old Trafford.
Fergie is said to have given very short shrift to the Dutch striker´s agent, Roger Linse, when he rang to discuss the possibility. The Reds boss told Linse that there was no way that van Nistelrooy would be sold.

Ronaldo agent in Man Utd warning
Cristiano Ronaldo´s agent has warned that the winger´s future at Manchester United will be in doubt if the club does not pay him top-class wages.
Jorge Mendes said he is in talks at Old Trafford over the future of the 20-year-old Portugal international.
" It is important to recognise that Cristiano Ronaldo is now a world star," the Daily Star quoted Mendes as saying.
" If the club says he´s a symbol of the future and an idol for the fans then they have to pay him accordingly."
Ronaldo is two years into a five-year deal at Old Trafford, after signing from Sporting Lisbon in in a £12.6m deal in August 2003.
He has proved to be a success, but Mendes is adamant he deserves a better deal.
The agent oversaw the transfer of Deco to Barcelona last season, and also negotiated the signing of the spanish champions´ Mexican defender Rafael Marquez.
