Korean Park´s United move near completion says agent
Tue Jun 21, 2005 5:14 PM BST

SEOUL, June 21 ( Reuters) - South Korea international Park Ji-sung is close to completing a move to Manchester United, his agent said on Tuesday.

" We are at the stage where we can soon ring the final bell on the deal," Park´s Korean agent Kim Jung-il told Reuters.

Park, who helped Dutch club PSV Eindhoven reach the European Champions League semi-finals last season, is poised to sign for United for four years in a $6 million deal.

" We were negotiating with PSV for another two years but Manchester United were very anxious to take Park to England," said Kim.

" We are negotiating the details with United but I think the deal will go through as we hoped."

Park, 24, played a key role in South Korea´s run to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup, scoring one of the goals of the tournament to knock out Portugal.

United want to secure Park´s signature before next month´s pre-season tour to the Far East.

:d) Man Utd ´agree £4m fee for Park´

Park played for South Korea at the 2002 World Cup
Manchester United have agreed a fee of £4m with PSV Eindhoven for South Korea midfielder Park Ji-Sung, according to the player´s agent.
Park is reported to be flying to England on Wednesday for a medical before signing a four-year deal.

" PSV Eindhoven and the English league club reached a deal early in the morning," read a press release from Park´s agency FS Corporation.

The 24-year-old is also said to have been given the number 21 shirt.

Park had said he was unsure whether he wanted to leave the Dutch champions, citing his close relationship with coach Guus Hiddink, who led South Korea to the 2002 World Cup semi-finals.

But his representative Kim Jung-Il said: " Park has made up his mind to join Manchester United and the president of our company informed PSV."

Park, who has 38 caps, recently helped the South Korea book their place in their sixth consecutive World Cup by scoring in the 4-0 thrashing of Kuwait.

He moved to PSV in December 2002 from Japanese club Kyoto Purple Sanga, and impressed during PSV´s superb run in the Champions League last season, scoring in the second leg of the semi-final against AC Milan.

If he does move he will become United´s second signing of the summer after 34-year-old Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.

He would also be the third player in recent years - after Jaap Stam and Ruud van Nistelrooy - to swap PSV for Old Trafford.

Park pourrait signer aujourd´hui...

PSV and Man United have reached an agreement, Park joins according to Yonhap news anyway. Saying they just finished negotiating.

Korean footballer Park Ji-sung confirmed to join Manchester Utd.

SEOUL, June 22 ( Yonhap) -- South Korean footballer Park Ji-sung became the first Korean player in the English Premier league by contracting to join Manchester United, his agent said Wednesday.

" The Netherlands´ PSV Eindhoven and the English league club reached a deal early in the morning," Park´s agency FS Corp. said. " The transfer fee for Park was set at 6 million euros ( US$7.3 million)."

Park will play for four years and earn a salary of 2 million pounds a year during the contract years.

He will depart for London this afternoon to undergo medical tests there, his agent said.

Park, a midfielder with Netherlands Champions PSV Eindhoven, scored his team´s first goal against Italian club AC Milan last month in the second leg of the European Champions League semifinals. The Dutch champions won 3-1, but failed to reach the final from a lack of away goals given the 3-3 goal aggregate.

Park´s contract with PSV Eindhoven, which he joined in 2002, will expire in June next year.

Ole sure of return

Gunnar Solskjaer believes he is closing in on a return to competitive action with Manchester United and is convinced he has plenty to offer Sir Alex Ferguson in the future.

Two knee operations kept Solskjaer on the sidelines for the whole of last term, with his last appearance coming in the 2004 FA Cup final win over Millwall.

A setback has forced the 32-year-old to delay his return, with October forecasted as his likely comeback, but Solskjaer is sure he will play a prominent part in Ferguson´s plans at Old Trafford.

" It isn´t a question of whether this spell out might extend my career, it will extend it for sure," declared the Norwegian marksman.

" All I can do now is look forward and be positive. I can see light at the end of the tunnel."

Foot - Transferts : Park quatre ans à Man. Utd.

Man Utd shares leave stock market

Shares in Manchester United have been delisted from the London Stock Exchange after 14 years on the market.
The action had been widely expected following the takeover of the club by US entrepreneur Malcolm Glazer.

The move means remaining shareholders will have to trade shares privately if they want to buy or sell them.

Mr Glazer owns 97.3% of United shares, but this is expected to rise past 97.6% - a level which would allow him to buy the remaining shares compulsorily.

An update on the precise level of Mr Glazer´s share ownership is expected by Monday, the deadline he set for shareholders to sell their remaining shares to him for £3 each.

Mr Glazer, who owns NFL franchise Tampa Bay Buccaneers, became the majority shareholder of the club on 16 May in a £790m takeover.

>> c´est fait Mu est un club privé maintenant.
