Gigi keen on Real not United

Gianluigi Buffon´s agent Silvano Martina has told skysports.com that his charge is not interested in joining Manchester United, claiming Real Madrid are the only club who could convince his client to leave Juventus.

The Sun speculated over the weekend that The Red Devils were tabling a €50 million bid for the Italy shot-stopper, who is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

The rumour spread to the Italian media as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to replace Roy Carroll, who is leaving under the Bosman Ruling.

However, Martina has stressed that money would not be the motivating factor behind the Azzurri keeper leaving Juve.

" It´s true Juventus have a habit of selling their top players when a proper offer comes in," he told skysports.com. " But I don´t think they plan to sell Buffon, at least not for now.

" Anyway, in these situations a crucial role is played by the will of the player and Gigi is fully committed to Juventus, as the Bianconeri are one of the best three clubs in the world."

Martina also added Buffon would only consider a move away from the Italian champions if he had the chance to join Real Madrid.

" Should Buffon one day decide to quit Juventus, that would be only for Real Madrid," Martina explained. " That´s why I don´t think reports about Manchester United will come to anything real."

The agent also paid tribute to Milan keeper Dida, claiming he and Buffon are the world´s best keepers.

" In my opinion, Gigi is the number one in his role, but I also would like to congratulate Dida for his great season.

" Unfortunately for him, Milan lost both the Scudetto and the UEFA Champions League, but he really can´t be blamed for that."

Rio could be first to go under Glazer
Rio Ferdinand could be the first big name to depart under Manchester United owner Malcolm Glazer. The England centre-half, whose current contract has two years to run, is still stalling on a new £100,000-a-week five-year contract. Since Glazer´s takeover, United´s finances have been carefully looked at and the new owners are thought to be shocked at the prospect of £30m Ferdinand leaving for nothing in 2007.

Rio sera là l´an prochain à moins que Glazer le vire et pour Ruud, tous les ans ya des journalistes stupides qui disent qu´il se sens pas bien à MU et qu´il veut partir alors ya pas de quoi s´inquiéter, d´autant plus qu´il a dit recemment qu´il comptait aller au bout de son contrat.

Essien peut pas aller au real, ils ont trop de joueurs non-eu donc c´est compliqué et en plus je vois pas pourquoi un demi-finaliste de LDC lacherait ses meilleurs joueurs.

Rio wants to end deal drama

Rio Ferdinand wants to end the drama surrounding his contract extension with Manchester United, although warned that negotiations could continue for the foreseeable future.

The classy stopper has been criticised by the club´s fans for the delay in inking the lucrative deal, and Sir Alex Ferguson was also vocal in his belief that the former West Ham man should end speculation by putting pen-to-paper.

Ferdinand has always maintained that he is keen to continue at Old Trafford, and had put down the delay in negotiations to his agent Pini Zahavi being out of the country.

After being pictured with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon, Ferdinand was linked with a departure from The Red Devils, with Barcelona and Real Madrid both mooted as possible destinations.

However Ferdinand has now expressed his hopes that an agreement can be reached, whilst suggesting that the furore surrounding the ongoing negotiations was out of all proportion given the duration of the talks.

" Negotiations. Some people take two years; some people take 18 months; some people take a year," Ferdinand told Granada.

" Mine has been going now a month. It´s just negotiations and fingers crossed we can keep negotiating and then we will get an agreement.

" I´m not saying it will take two years. What I´m saying is that people take 18 months to sign a contract.

" I´ve been given a month and my head is on the chopping board.

" It takes time and two people have got to come to a final agreement."

Ferdinand also insisted that Malcolm Glazer´s unpopular takeover of the English giants had taken priority as the major concern at Old Trafford, meaning that talks over his deal had slowed somewhat as a result.

" That has slowed things down a bit because that is more important than me," Ferdinand continued.

" That´s the club and we have to get that sorted out as well."
