Obi desperate to sign for Chelsea

John Mikel Obi says he wants to sign for Chelsea - just a month after agreeing a deal with Manchester United.
United and Norwegians Lyn Oslo lodged a complaint with Fifa over Chelsea´s pursuit of Obi on Wedneday after he said he was forced to sign for United.

Obi, 18, told BBC´s Newsnight he did not want to go to Old Trafford " because I don´t want to" and that he signed for United because " something happened".

" I love Chelsea and I´m going to be happy when I go," he added.

Obi´s assertion comes a day after Chelsea, along with agents John Shittu and Rune Hauge, were the subject of a complaint to Fifa.

They claim he was happy to agree a move to Manchester United on 29 April, but since that time has performed a U-turn, insisting he had been bullied into agreeing to switch to Old Trafford.

It is a claim furiously denied by United chief executive David Gill and Oslo´s sporting director Morgan Anderson.

They have both signed the documents that are on their way to Fifa´s headquarters in Zurich.

Fergie has Smith option

Sir Alex Ferguson has not ruled out converting Alan Smith in to the driving midfielder he will need to replace Roy Keane.

Ferguson is already looking to a time when his influential skipper will no longer be able to control United´s midfield - but is sceptical about his chances of replacing the Irish icon.

One option is to drop combative former Leeds man Smith into a deeper role - despite assertions when the player signed that he would be utilised as a striker.

" It´s difficult to say," said Ferguson, when asked if Smith was an option.

" I wouldn´t rule him out - he is a good competitor and good tactically. He can play in midfield, out wide or up front and you know he can do it."

Ferguson is well aware of the area that he needs to strengthen in the coming years.

" The part we are trying to address is the midfield," added Ferguson. " We are not going to have Roy Keane for ever.

" It is Roy´s sheer presence and the influence he has in always wanting the ball.

" He is pivotal to the way we play."

Ronaldo warning for United

Cristiano Ronaldo has fired a warning to Manchester United to sort out his contract wrangle sooner rather than later.

The Portugal international is looking for a pay rise at Old Trafford but The Red Devils have not yet met his demands.

The 20-year-old´s situation is growing increasingly strained and his agent has warned United that other clubs are interested in him.

Real Madrid coach Wanderley Luxemburgo´s admiration for the flamboyant wing-man is well known, and the Spanish side would be waiting should Ronaldo become disenchanted at United.

Ronaldo´s agent Jorge Mendes has threatened that his client could consider his future at the club if his contract wrangle is not sorted out quickly.

" He wants everything to be agreed without further delays," Mendes told The Sun.

" There are lots of clubs interested."
