tu as oublié de préciser un truc LMARCO . .

Gill insistent over Mikel

Manchester United chief executive David Gill insists that Nigerian starlet John Obi Mikel has signed for the club despite the controversy surrounding his whereabouts.

The Red Devils beat Chelsea to the signing of the highly regarded 18-year-old, although mystery surrounds his future after the Norwegian club confirmed to skysports.com that they suspected the player had been taken by agents working for the London side.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho was understood to be upset at missing out on the talented youngster, although reports are now suggesting that the African ace may be entering into talks at Stamford Bridge.

United have written to Chelsea about the controversial dispute, and are confident of landing the player after he was paraded in the famous red of the Old Trafford outfit.

Gill firmly insisted that United had completed the signing of Mikel, and voiced his surprise at the course of events that has seen intrigue surround the transfer with his apparent disappearance.

" We cannot track John Obi unfortunately. We sent [youth team coach] Jim Ryan over there yesterday but he didn´t get to see him at all," Gill told MUTV.

" He cannot go underground for ever, he was last seen making his way to London, which we find extremely surprising.

" I am very disappointed. We have written to another club but they have not responded to our letters.

" We have shown due deference to them, explaining the situation, we have sent copies to the Premier League and we will see the outcome.
" We did a deal with the club, quite properly, following the rules.

" We also did a deal with John Obi. He has turned 18 and turned professional, but in order to play in the Premier League he needs a work permit.
" That is the process we have gone through. We have the rights to the player."

The influence of agents Jerome Anderson and John Shittu is bound to be thrown into intense focus as further details emerge, and Lyn sporting director Morgan Andersen accused the pair of pressurising Mikel to change his mind.

" Why leave suddenly? Why not tell the club you are contracted to?" said Andersen.

" The boys who live with John could see he was scared, he was crying.

" I feel really bad for John, he has to protect himself and his family in Nigeria.

" The agents tried to influence him to say he didn´t want to play for Manchester United.

" He didn´t want to do that but he said he was
under great pressure from those people."

>> d´après ce qu´il ce dit, Mikel veut bien venir à MU donc on verra comment ça finira mais je pense qu´on devrait etre bien sur ce coup là.

Mikel adds to United saga

John Obi Mikel has added another twist to his transfer saga by insisting that he was pressurised into signing for Manchester United.

The Nigerian starlet was seemingly snapped up by United from Norwegian side Lyn Oslo
The 18-year-old had been previously courted by Chelsea by Lyn said that United had been the keener side and had swooped in to sign him.

However, Mikel then went missing and claims emerged that he wanted to sign for Chelsea and not The Red Devils.

Sir Alex Ferguson was due to fly to Norway only to cancel his trip as the teenager had disappeared, thought to be heading to London for talks with Chelsea.

The talented young African has now told Sky Sports News that he feels he was pressurised into signing for United and does not think he had made his own decision.

" I signed a contract with Manchester United and I didn´t do that of my own free will," Mikel exclusively told Sky Sports News.

" I was put into a lot of pressure to do that. I was denied advice from my agent and people I trust and I didn´t get much time to think about that.

" I did something I did not want to do. Because of the pressure from Mr Morgan ( Andersen, Lyn´s sporting director) and a representative of United it became too much.

" I was pushed and I had nobody on my side so I had to do it.

" I was denied a chance to have a week to think about it and get some independent advice from people so the pressure was too much."

United fear Mikel has been in London with his agents Jerome Anderson and John Shittu in order to try and engineer a move to Stamford Bridge, but he claims to have had no contact with The Blues.

" No, I haven´t," replied Mikel when asked about any Chelsea contact, although he did not rule it out in the future.

" I came into London and I have been in my hotel with my agent and haven´t seen anyone or talked to anyone from Chelsea.

" I have no contact with Chelsea for now."

United supremo David Gill has insisted that their deal for Mikel is water-tight, but the African´s latest comments have muddied the waters further in what is turning out to be a real transfer drama.

>>> je trouve ça fort de pas etre content 2 ou 3semaines plus tard de ce qu´on a fait. En plus, il signe pour un des meilleurs clubs du monde, c´est quand melheureux cette affaire. Je me demande si on saura un jour le pourquoi du comment il a changé d´avis comme ça...

une mauvaise année emménera forcément la vente de joueurs

:d) On verra.

UNITED WANT MIKEL PROBE

Manchester United have asked the Premier League to investigate the ongoing transfer wrangle with John Obi Mikel.

The 18-year-old Nigerian signed for The Red Devils last month after a deal was a struck with his current club Lyn.

However, Chelsea were furious as they already thought they had agreed the transfer of the young midfielder.

After signing for United Mikel received death threats and went into hiding, before travelling to London on Thursday and he now claims he was pressurised into signing the deal with the Old Trafford giants - but insists he has not held talks with Chelsea.

Chelsea have yet to confirm or deny whether the agents, John Shittu and Jerome Anderson, who brought Mikel to England - are working on their behalf.

United insist their deal with Lyn and Mikel is watertight and having already attempted to make contract with Chelsea, they have now contacted the Premier League to launch an investigation.

" Manchester United has written to the FA Premier League to register the concerns it has over this matter," said an official United statement.

" We have asked the Premier League to investigate formally as soon as possible."

Sir Alex Ferguson had planned to fly to Oslo on Thursday for talks with Mikel, but after he fled to London - the meeting was called off and now United have taken the issue up with the Premier League.

Bellion injury agony

Manchester United forward David Bellion has suffered an injury blow as the season draws to a close.

The £3 million signing from Sunderland has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford but has knuckled down and scored regularly for the reserves since reportedly reacting angrily to being substituted in the embarrassing 0-0 FA Cup draw with Exeter City in January.

Only seven minutes into the inaugral Premier League Reserve play-off, the Frenchman was hurt by a heavy challenge by Charlton´s Barry Fuller.

After being taken to hospital, it has been revealed that Bellion has a suspected fractured ankle.

United´s second string emerged victorious, in any case, with precocious talent Giuseppe Rossi scoring a marvellous hat-trick in a 4-2 win at The Valley.

Skipper David Jones was United´s other goalscorer with Lloyd Sam and James Walker on the scoresheet for Charlton.

Carlos Demands Authorities Act On Mikel Saga

United assistant coach Carlos Queiroz has demanded football´s authorities clamp down on the " jungle rules" that he says have been used to " kidnap" transfer target John Obi Mikel.

The Reds announced two weeks ago that the highly-rated Nigerian youth international had signed from his Norwegian club FC Lyn Oslo.

United have officially complained to the Premier League, asking them to investigate what Carlos Queiroz described as the " kidnapping" of the player.

John Obi Mikel was in London yesterday with his agents, which led to reports claiming he was there to hold talks with Chelsea, who also coveted the talented teenager.

Mikel appeared on television in an interview with Sky Sports saying that he had been pressured into signing for United.

The midfielder´s comments came as a surprise to everyone at Old Trafford, who on the evidence of speaking to Mikel believed he had made the " decision of his life" to join United.

On Friday, Queiroz was furious that a young player should be coerced and shepherded into changing his mind.

" We cannot live with these jungle rules," the assistant boss told Century radio. " We cannot accept that and the institutions must stop this.

" It is unnacceptable that a young boy of 18 can be almost kidnapped from the country where he was playing, travel to London and within one day talk on the television with an unhappy face.

" Everybody felt the boy had just made the best decision of his entire life, at least from a professional point of view. Next game he comes on TV and says that he signed the agreement under pressure.

" Everybody understands something happened between these two events. We know what happened - this is not original. This kind of thing has happened before with other players.

" We have an official position now. We have complained to the Premier League and we expect them and Uefa and Fifa to come out with a strong decision.

" We expect that some kind of clarification will happen today. We know nothing about what has happened and who is behind these movements and who must take responsibility for what has happened."

Mouais, on verra.

Deal could spell the end of Ferguson - Question mark hangs over Scot´s future

Daniel Taylor
Friday May 13, 2005
The Guardian

Sir Alex Ferguson will consult his family and closest friends before deciding whether to retire when Malcolm Glazer takes control at Old Trafford. The Scot is repulsed by the prospect of a takeover which will change the face of Manchester United for ever, and may not be swayed by the US tycoon´s attempts to forge a working relationship with him.

Glazer has let it be known that he wants Ferguson to survive a cull that would see most of the current board forced out. The reclusive American, who yesterday launched a £790.3m takeover bid, has done his homework on Ferguson and likes what he has found, but he knows the admiration is not mutual and that this year United´s manager has already publicly questioned the takeover plans.

Glazer does not intend to repeat one of his first, highly aggressive decisions when he bought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American Football club in 1995 and swiftly replaced the coach Sam Wyche.

However Ferguson´s intentions are not so clear and he will seek advice before deciding whether or not to remain in office during one of the most unsettling periods in the club´s history.

Walking out would be a last resort but it is a definite possibility and the Scot will not be encouraged to learn that one of Glazer´s first acts will involve moving on the plc board´s three non-executive directors, Ian Much, Jim O´Neill and the chairman Sir Roy Gardner.

The finance director Nick Humby is considered " vulnerable" and Glazer´s eldest son Joel, who has been instrumental in the negotiations, has indicated that he wants an office at Old Trafford as well as a seat in the directors´ box. Ferguson would then have to answer to him or " some other American hotshot", as one United employee put it.

Sweeping changes are inevitable but Ferguson will be relieved to hear that David Gill, the chief executive who has led a polite yet obstructive anti-Glazer campaign, will probably survive because the new owners want a degree of continuity. Ferguson gets on well with Gill and that may be influential in his decision.

Gill would certainly try to talk him into staying although one theory last night was that Ferguson, at 63, might deem it more trouble than it is worth. Should the Scot leave this summer he would do so as a hero, particularly if United beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final, and after two disappointing seasons such a move has already been described within Old Trafford as " a graceful exit".

That, however, underestimates Ferguson´s desire to reestablish United as England´s premier team and the strength of his emotional bond with the club. He has spoken of his desire to continue for at least two more years but, with or without Gill, he knows that Glazer´s arrival will mean significant changes to his working conditions.

For starters, the business would effectively be run by an American family who have had no involvement in football before and are considered difficult and distant. " You can count on one hand the people who know the Glazers well," said one high-ranking official at the Tampa Sports Authority, which runs the Buccaneers´ Raymond James Stadium. " We hardly ever see them."

Glazer will apparently make around £20m available to spend on players every season but Gill has told Ferguson to look at the bigger picture and, in particular, the reservations about long-term finance that United´s plc board had cited in its opposition. Ferguson is highly sceptical about the financial risk involved and there are no guarantees, as yet, of whether the new owners will back his spending plans.

With Ferguson´s blessing, United have not only offered Rio Ferdinand a five-year contract worth £30m but are in negotiations with Ryan Giggs, John O´Shea, Cristiano Ronaldo, Darren Fletcher and Tim Howard. Whether Glazer will be willing to subsidise huge rises, particularly in Ferdinand´s case, is one of the many issues that will trouble the club´s management.

Glazer is not as parsimonious as he is often portrayed and two years ago he paid US$8m, an unprecedented figure in the NFL, to take the highly respected coach Jon Gruden to Tampa Bay from the Oakland Raiders. Alternatively, there are stories of him quibbling about the price of trainers and buying his clothes from budget stores.

Glazer certainly has his work cut out to dispel Ferguson´s scepticism. Winning over the manager could be of enormous benefit for the 73-year-old, whose public relations man once described United´s followers as " xenophobic", but he would be kidding himself to believe it would improve his popularity among the supporters. Ferguson has openly sympathised with the fans´ Not for Sale campaign and were he to back Glazer, would be accused of betrayal.

If, as is believed, Glazer has read Ferguson´s autobiography he will also be aware that the Glaswegian is not the type to stand by and watch as new employees are brought in and valued colleagues such as the club´s long-serving solicitor Maurice Watkins and secretary Ken Ramsden are ushered out.

In case Glazer is not fully au fait with the Scot he should refer, perhaps, to the very last line of his book. " Loyalty is the anchor of my life," says the man who has won 17 trophies at United and will go for an 18th in Cardiff a week tomorrow.

what does it concern him, he is taking the piss.

LONDON COLNEY, England, May 13 ( Reuters) - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged Manchester United fans to give U.S. financier Malcolm Glazer a chance in his unpopular takeover of the north London club´s FA Cup final opponents.
" I don´t necessarily see this as a bad thing for football, or a bad thing for Manchester United," Wenger said on Friday.

United supporters have reacted angrily to the American´s plans to gain control of their club, fearing he will raise ticket prices and fail to invest in new players.

But Wenger believes Glazer could be good for United and feels he should be given time to show what his real plans are.

" I understand there is uncertainty from people in Manchester but I don´t think you can convict a guy who hasn´t even taken one decision," he told reporters at Arsenal´s training ground.

" I feel you have to be open minded and he could be good for the club.

" At Arsenal, sometimes I feel we have an advantage, especially in transfer situations, because we are a private company.

" I can react quickly and do a deal in 24 hours because I do not have to consult so many people compared to a PLC ( like United).

" If Glazer comes in and makes Manchester United a completely private club again, then they will be able to react quickly as well.

" I know people have said this guy is not interested in football, but why has he fought so hard to invest 800 million pounds ( $1.49 billion)?

" You have to accept that he has been successful in what he has done before and I don´t understand why everything is so negative."

WRONG BUSINESS

Glazer was by Friday evening only a fraction short of the key 75 percent stake needed to take complete control of United, the richest soccer club in the world.

Wenger warned Glazer, though, that if he is investing in United simply to make money further down the line, he has chosen the wrong business.

" I don´t think you can make a lot of money from being involved in football," the Frenchman said.

" In this sport, to stay successful you have to use that money and re-invest it in new players and bigger wages.

" And England is the worst place in the world right now to make money from football because we have a guy at Chelsea who can spend whatever he wants irrespective of the income he´s getting."

Wenger was referring to Russian oil billionaire Roman Abramovich who bought Chelsea for $100 million two years ago, invested close to $400 million in players and saw his team win this season´s Premier League title with a record number of points and three games to spare.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will be without full back Lauren for Sunday´s final league game of the season at Birmingham City because he is suffering from food poisoning.

Midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg has won his race to be fit ahead of the FA Cup final against arch-rivals United at Cardiff´s Millennium Stadium on May 21 and is expected to come off the bench and play some part on Sunday.

» a demandé Wenger.
