United eye Dutch starlet
Manchester United have trained their sights on Nigel de Jong, but Ajax have insisted they will resist all offers for their talented defender this summer.
United´s vast scouting network has highlighted the versatile de Jong as a player capable of flourishing at Old Trafford and they have had the 20-year-old watched on a number of occasions.
The Red Devils have also been encouraged by de Jong´s failure to agree a new deal at The Amsterdam ArenA, with the player reportedly unhappy at being asked to operate in a number of different positions.
De Jong rose through the ranks as a full back, a position Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to boost, but he has been asked to operate in midfield under new boss Danny Blind.
Ajax are aware of the interest in de Jong, but are keen to rebuff any offers and extend his stay in Amsterdam.
" We won´t let him go," Ajax director Arie van Eijden told Algemeen Dagblad. " Nigel de Jong still has a deal until 2006 and is an important player in the vision of Danny Blind.
" We will not quote a fee, we want to keep him as simple as that."
£100m United lifeline
Manchester United fans have been offered a £100million loan to block billionaire Malcolm Glazer´s takeover bid. Bankers in the Far East, where United have a huge following, have agreed to lend supporters the cash to help buy them a 25% stake in the club. That would make it impossible for the US tycoon to reach the 75.1% target of shares he needs to take control of the world´s biggest football dynasty.

Stump up, fans, to stop Glazer
Plans by Manchester United fans to borrow up to £100million to buy shares and fight off Malcolm Glazer´s bid for the club have been shrugged off by the American tycoon´s advisers, who plan to push on this week with a formal bid to shareholders. Glazer is taking legal advice about the strength of his position but is keen to go ahead and could even formalise his bid at the end of this week or the styart of next.

Glovers move for United youth
Yeovil Town are close to agreeing a deal for Manchester United´s reserve team striker David Poole.
The young forward has been told he can leave Old Trafford at the end of the season after failing to force his way into the club´s first team plans.
Earlier in the spring, Poole trained with Sunderland and Bristol City but was unable to clinch a deal with either club.
He has spent the past fortnight training with Yeovil and appears to have impressed enough to warrant a deal for next term.
Glovers boss Gary Johnson confirmed talks are at an advanced stage for Poole to link up with the League Two promotion contenders.
" There is a fair chance that he´ll be joining us," said Johnson. " We are in negotiations at the moment.
" He had to go back to United to play in their cup final but he´s been with us for two weeks and will be joining up with us again.
" Most of their kids go on to make it in the game and I think it would be a good move for David to join us.
" He´s had the chance to join other clubs in The Premiership but if he did he could be 25 before he gets a first team chance."
Je trouve ça bizarre qu´on cherche a recruter 2 defenseurs alors que la defense reste quand meme une bonne satisfaction cette saison.
Man Utd fans demand match boycott
Manchester United supporters´ groups have called for fans to boycott Saturday´s home game with West Brom.
The ´Not For Sale Coalition´ is behind the move as it cranks up its campaign against Malcolm Glazer´s takeover bid.
The group also believes it will send out a message to the current United board, emphasising the widespread disgust at recent ticket price rises.
" We know it´s asking a lot for people not to use their tickets, but we have got to take a stand," said a spokesman.
He added: " This is the last Saturday matchday opportunity for supporters to let any potential new owners and the current board know that supporters´ loyalty can not be taken for granted.
Supporters who do not want to miss the game have been asked to join a protest march to the stadium which leaves the nearby cricket ground 45 minutes before kick-off.
US sports tycoon Glazer is currently in discussions with major backers JP Morgan and NM Rothschild over whether to proceed with a formal £800m offer.
But the 78-year-old has been given a 17 May deadline by the Takeover Panel to make known whether he plans to launch a bid.
Essien ready for England
Michael Essien has opened the door to a summer move to The Premiership by declaring that he would be happy in England.
The Lyon midfielder has been strongly linked with Manchester United as they look to find a long-term replacement for Roy Keane, although the French outfit have insisted that they are set to keep hold of the talented Ghanaian for another year.
Essien admits that he savoured the taste of football at Old Trafford when the French champions lost out to United in the UEFA Champions League earlier this season, and believes he would easily adapt to the physical nature of the English league.
" It was wonderful to play at Old Trafford," Essien told Four Four Two.
" They are one of the biggest clubs in Europe so of course I was happy to play there, but no, I wasn´t think about my future during the game.
" I get on the pitch and only think about football.
" In England the game is based on physical strength and that´s what I like.
" I think I can adapt well, I think I have the qualities to play there and I already speak the language.
" It will be easier for me than when I arrived in France.
" I´ll be happy in England."
Sir Alex Ferguson has long been an admirer of the versatile 22-year-old and had Essien on trial in 2000 with a view to sending him to feeder club Royal Antwerp.
Essien revealed that the conditions at the time were not right for a move to the English giants and praised Red Devils boss Ferguson for his managerial abilities.
" It was a good trial," Essien continued.
" I think I did well, I don´t think I had the level to play there at the time but Sir Alex Ferguson said I had played well.
" I liked him, he´s a very good coach."
Strike duo back for United
Ruud van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha will return for Manchester United against West Brom this weekend.
Both strikers are due to feature at some point at Old Trafford, live on Sky Sports 1, after recovering from their latest injuries.
Van Nistelrooy has missed United´s last two games with a bruised foot but will be back in the starting line-up against the Premiership strugglers.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is anxious for the Dutchman to get more playing time ahead of the FA Cup final with Arsenal later this month.
" Ruud was doing some good running yesterday and that´s good news," Ferguson told the Manchester Evening News.
" He says he is 100 percent now so he will be okay for Saturday. He will play because he definitely needs games."
Saha has not played for United since the start of last month when he was forced off early during the defeat at Norwich City with a calf strain.
The French forward featured for the reserves on Monday and Ferguson is delighted to have his full quota of strikers available again.
He added: " I have to think about some part of Saturday´s game for Louis.
" I am sure he will get a bit of the match. He will probably start as sub and he will come on.
" Getting players matches is an area I need to be working on. Strikers such as van Nistelrooy, Saha and Alan Smith need to be getting football."
