Manchester United striker Louis Saha is aiming to be fit for his side´s FA Cup semi-final with Newcastle.

The French striker has seen his campaign decimated by a series of knee injuries that have limited him to just ten appearance and two goals.

The former Fulham star, who moved to Old Trafford 14 months ago for £13 million, has suffered yet another setback and there were fears he might require surgery that would bring his season to a premature end.

However, he is still hoping to play a part and help United end the term with some silverware in the shape of The FA Cup.

" The FA Cup is more of a personal goal," Saha said.

" I´ve never had so many injuries in a year before. It´s unbelievable."

United meet Newcastle at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on the weekend of April 16/17.

Essien´s United admiration

Michael Essien has admitted to Sky Sports News that he would love to play for Manchester United.

The Lyon powerhouse has been attracting admiring glances from most of Europe´s top clubs and helped the French champions storm into the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League when thrashing Werder Bremen over two legs.

Essien, who had a trial with United as a youngster, is being forwarded as a possible long-term replacement for Red Devils skipper Roy Keane.

" I know that [the press reports regarding interest from Premiership clubs], " he told Sky Sports News.

" But, for me, I don´t think about that because I have left everything for my manager [agent].

" So I don´t think about it and just concentrate on my football.

" I like Manchester. I know most of their players and like them, and would like to play one day in the Premier League.

" I´ll be happy to play for Manchester but, at the moment, I´m in Lyon and I have to concentrate on that.

" I like Old Trafford because it´s one of the nicest stadiums in Europe and, foremost, I like the coach [Sir Alex Ferguson] very well."

Sought-after Lyon midfielder Michael Essien today revealed his desire to join Manchester United.
The 22-year-old Ghanaian has excelled during Lyon´s charge to the Champions League quarter-finals and twice caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson with impressive performances against United in the group phase.

Essien in fact came close to joining United four years ago, but delays in getting a work permit meant he plumped for French side Bastia instead. He revealed today, however, that he still sees a future at Old Trafford.
