Spurs want Chris Eagles?

Manchester United midfielder Chris Eagles has played down interest from Tottenham.

The 19 year-old winger has caught the eye of Spurs scouts while on-loan at Watford, but he told the Evening Standard: " I just want to concentrate on Watford for now and then get into the United first team. I want to be a United legend."

Hornets boss Ray Lewington said: " He is an exciting player and has done very well. He is pacy, can dribble, run with the ball and take players on. He can get in the box as well.

" The great thing from our point of view is that he has really worked hard. His work-rate has been phenomenal."

The Championship has been a steep learning curve for the lightweight teenager.

Eagles said: " It is a lot more physical and the players are a lot bigger. In the Premiership you have to be clever and size isn´t so important.

" One of the reasons I came away [from United] was to get fitter and stronger, which you only get from playing week in, week out."

Cooper extends Oldham loan deal
Manchester United striker Kenny Cooper has extended his loan spell at Oldham for a second month.
The Baltimore-born forward scored three times in his first seven games for the Latics, including two in Saturday´s win over Port Vale.

New Oldham manager Ronnie Moore was keen to keep the 20-year-old at Boundary Park.

Milan wouldn´t swap Gattuso

Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti says he would never swap Gennaro Gattuso for Manchester United´s Roy Keane.

The combative former Rangers midfielder has been linked with a move to Old Trafford to become a long-term replacement for United skipper Keane, whose latest hopes of playing in a UEFA Champions League final were ended in Milan on Tuesday.

Gattuso expressed an admiration for The Red Devils in a newspaper interview on Sunday, only to quickly retract that sentiment, and there seems little chance of the Rossoneri wanting to off-load their tenacious tackler.

There was never any suggestion that the Italy international would be swapped for Irish veteran Keane but Ancelotti knows which player he would prefer in his side.

" Gattuso´s spirit would perfectly adapt to English football,"said Ancelotti.

" But be calm because we would never propose to him or Manchester an exchange for Keane."

The 27-year-old hails Walter Smith as the greatest influence on his career and that might be where the talk regarding United has started because Smith spent the end of last season at Old Trafford as Sir Alex Ferguson´s number two before accepting the Scotland manager´s job.

One moment epitomised Gattuso´s significant contribution to his side´s 1-0 San Siro victory, when he snapped into a challenge on Gabriel Heinze and then snarled at the Argentinian in a real show of defiance.

rooney est encore trop jeune . .

cet équipe est soit trop jeune soit vieillissante c´est dommage . .

maintenant je ne la critique pas mais ronaldo hier a été hallucinant de nullité ! !!!

et je reporche surtout ce manque de combativité comme si tout était déja joué . .

par contre je pense vraiment que si c´est vrai et qu´on achéte aucun vrai joueur on est mal l´année prochaine . .

United blow £10m windfall

MANCHESTER United blew a potential £10m European windfall again last night.

The 1-0 San Siro defeat and a second successive last 16 KO will hit the Old Trafford bank account and could impact on manager Sir Alex Ferguson´s summer spending.

United have banked around £4m in UEFA prize money following their group stage successes, but crashing out in the first knockout phase has immediately denied them a definite £1.5m bonanza for taking part in the quarter-finals and a further £1.5m from gate receipts from an Old Trafford tie.

A £2m-plus pay cheque for making the semis has also gone, along with a near £3m if they´d reached the Istanbul final in May, and the possible extra £2m for winning the Champions League.

Another home full house £1.5m for the last four has been wiped from the potential income and the revenue from TV in UEFA´s Market Pool has been thrown away.

Last season´s winners Porto, who knocked the Reds out in the last 16 a year ago, picked up prize money worth around £8m in the latter stages after their success over Ferguson´s side.

Because of England´s TV audience pulling power, United still banked a bigger cheque at the end of the competition than Porto, but a second successive financial blow in the Champions League will be worrying the Reds hierarchy, who are on the brink of facing a takeover bid from American tycoon Malcolm Glazer.

The club do not budget on European Cup final success but chief executive David Gill has warned that if early knockouts happened year after year, then the Reds would have to reassess their plans.

Having sanctioned the purchase of Wayne Rooney last August, when Fergie was said to have blown his 2005 kitty on the England striker, clearly any plans the boss has to re-establish the Reds among Europe´s elite in the summer transfer market are going to be hit.

Rounding on an Italian journalist, he said: " In two or three years, Rooney and Ronaldo are all you will be talking about." Perhaps he should be a little less confident - unless he can find a fitting replacement for Roy Keane in the next 18 months or so. Having spent most of this summer´s budget in recruiting Rooney last summer, Ferguson has little room to manoeuvre in the transfer market. Milan´s Gennaro Gattuso surprised people this week by suggesting he would like to play for United. Without doubt, he would walk straight into the team. Corinthians´ Javier Mascherano would also seem to fit the bill. Closer to home - and therefore easier to scout - is Lyon´s Michael Essien. The perfect age, at 22, to perform from the start but still have time to improve, the Ghanaian has often been watched by United.

En ce qui concerne Rooney, ce que les journaux anglais oublient de dire ( volontairement pour certains ? ), c´est que le prix de son transfert était sujet à de nombreuses clauses. Dont l´une d´entre elles concernait une victoire en C1, chose qui n´arrivera pas cette saison. Si on ne gagne pas la Premier League, cela fera aussi de l´argent en moins à verser à Everton, donc le transfert de Rooney est à " relativiser" un peu...

C´est sur qu´on gagnera moins d´argent grâce à la Coupe d´Europe que si on avait gagné la C1. Mais la Lazio nous doit encore 12M€, on a Kleberson à vendre, Carroll et Ricardo à libérer, et le stade va être agrandi, ce qui donnera des revenus billetterie encore plus importants...

Pour rappel, le transfert est de 20M£ payés en deux fois ( 10M£ payé l´été dernier, 10M£ cet été), et les 7M£ restants sont assujettis à diverses clauses, faudrait les retrouver...

Rooney has agreed a six-year deal and is tied to United until 2010.

United have agreed an initial £20 million payment - half is due now and the other half expected this time next year.

A further £7 million is due to Everton dependent on Rooney staying at Old Trafford, how many international caps he gains, whether he agrees a new deal and how United fair on the playing front.

Of the £7 million - £3 million is guaranteed to come Everton´s way.

United also confirmed that Rooney´s agents Pro-Active will be due up to £1.5 million.

Everton also have a 25 percent sell-on clause installed in the agreement.
