My Cup agony
Rio Ferdinand trudged off the field at Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium four years ago feeling like he had been hit by a truck. The England star truly believed he was going to win the Champions League with Leeds but they were thumped 3-0 by the Spanish side in the semi-final second leg. " I know what it is like to go out of this competition when you think you have a chance of winning and it is devastating," said Ferdinand. " We are confident we can do the job in Milan and, if I needed any spurring on, memories if Valencia will be more than enough."

Keane: I never won my medal
Discarded in the bottom of a drawer in Roy Keane’s house is a medal. The inscription on it reads: Champions League 1999, winners. But the shining silver object means little to the Manchester United captain. Keane was robbed of his place in the final with Bayern Munich by suspension. Which is why, despite doing more than anyone else to get them to that final, he still does not count himself as a European champion. Keane said: “I have got the medal in a drawer somewhere. But I do not feel like I’ve won a European Cup. I received a medal but didn’t feel I deserved it. Ask Paul Scholes as well, it just was not the same as being out there. I was pleased for everyone but it was the other players who had done it that night not me.”

Bobby backing boys
Bobby and Nobby are backing Manchester United to do a jobby. United face a huge task in overcoming a 1-0 first-leg deficit against AC Milan. But 1968 European Cup-winners Sir Bobby Charlton and Nobby Stiles insist United will be unstoppable in the San Siro if they play at their best. Charlton said: “Milan are strong but I don’t think there is a team strong enough to withstand us if we play really well.” Charlton and Stiles helped United hit back from 3-1 down during their 1968 semi-final against Real Madri. Stiles said: “There’s no reason why United can’t do what we did. Thinking we’re never beaten is part and parcel of the club.”

Stam on red alert
Jaap Stam admits Manchester United are one of the most dangerous teams in Europe. AC Milan’s former Old Trafford star, 32, said: “It’s too dangerous to let thoughts of holding on to our 1-0 lead take over. United will go for it big-time and with attackers like Van Nistelrooy, Rooney, Giggs and Ronaldo they have firepower to do some damage.”

Fergie´s top lads
Alex Ferguson has branded the side which drew at Crystal Palace as “better” than his Treble-winning team. The Manchester United boss said: “I think the team is better now than the team in 1999 in terms of basic ability. What we don’t know yet is the true strength of younger players like Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Fourget it
Barcelona ace Ronaldinho last night wrote off Chelsea´s chances of eliminating the Catalan giants from the Champions League - and predicted all four Premiership sides will crash out this week. The World Footballer of the Year dismissed Chelsea´s hopes of overturning their 2-1 first leg deficit tomorrow, along with the hopes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal. " I´m sure that Barcelona will reach the quarter-finals," said Ronaldinho. " My predictions would be Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, or AC Milan and maybe Inter to challenge. I don´t think any of the English sides will do it."

Dowie backs United
Iain Dowie is tipping Manchester United to succeed against Paolo Maldini where they failed against Danny Granville. The Crystal Palace boss reckons United can get the vital goals against AC Milan in the San Siro tomorrow to keep their Champions League dreams alive. Alex Ferguson’s team fly out to Italy today 1-0 down heading into the second leg of their last-16 clash and just 48 hours after drawing a blank against the Eagles. Dowie said: “I think United’s tie with AC Milan is going to go right to the wire. I can see Man U getting goals in Milan.”

It´s red noose day
Manchester Unitedsquandered the chance to pressurise Chelsea as they failed to overcome 10-man Crystal Palace. Alex Ferguson´s men were hoping to close the gap on Jose Mourinho´s league leaders to just three points. But after Palace midfielder Vassilis Lakis was sent off for two bookable offences in the second half, United could not find a way past the Eagles backline.

Miracle if Blues blow it
Rio Ferdinand insists a Chelsea collapse would be one of the great sporting blow-ups. He said: “It will be an unbelievable mess-up if they don’t win the title now. It’s there for Chelsea to lose.”

Roo aah Cantona
There weren´t any Eric Cantona masks among Manchester United fans in the stands at Selhurst Park. But 10 years on from the kung-fu kick, there was a bloke out on the pitch doing a damned fine impersonation of the French genius. Wayne Rooney only came off the bench for 17 minutes as Sir Alex Ferguson kissed goodbye to his fading hopes of catching Chelsea in the Premiership by prioritising tomorrow night´s tie against AC Milan in the San Siro. But in those 17 minutes, Rooney transformed what had been a desperately dull game into a seething, frothing pit of brilliance laced with ugliness and petulance.

Glazer to hit fans
Manchester United fans are braced for a hike in ticket prices should Malcolm Glazer succeed in his takeover bid. The Amercian billionaire is poised to make a formal £800m offer this week. If he gains control, sources say he will persue an " aggressive revenue-generating plan." That will include a rise in admission prices and possibly higher prices for the bigger domestic and European games.

United´s unlikely heroes
How fitting it is that John Magnier has been escaping the icy grip of winter at his holiday home, Laughing Waters, on the glitzy western coast of Barbados. For Magnier and JP McManus, his partner in the investment group Cubic Expression, must have chuckled at the way their image has changed with Manchester United fans in the last 12 months. As United supporters mobilise in an attempt to prevent the Glazer takeover, The Boss and the Sundance Kid find that they are cast in the role of saviours. It is an irony not lost on the pair, the club or the fans, who realise that if the Cubic Expression group refuse to sell their 28.89 per cent shareholding in the club, then Glazer´s aggressive attempts to buy the world´s richest football club will fail.

FA look at United actions
Manchester United could find themselves in hot water with The Football Association after it was confirmed that the English governing body are looking into an incident following the recent game at Crystal Palace.
United saw their title hopes suffer a massive blow when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Premiership strugglers Palace on Saturday and temperatures were high at the end of the 90 minutes.
A number of United players felt aggrieved that key decisions, including a last-minute penalty claim, had not gone their way and surrounded referee Mark Clattenburg at the end of the Selhurst Park encounter to vent their frustrations.
It would appear that the incident caught the eye of Soho Square officials who will study video evidence and Clattenburg´s report before deciding on whether to mete out any punishment on The Red Devils.
