Rio unruffled by take-over
Rio Ferdinand insists Manchester United´s players are not letting talk of a possible take-over affect their form on the pitch.
American tycoon Malcolm Glazer has launched a fresh bid to try and assume control at Old Trafford, causing much unrest amongst the club´s fans.
However, Ferdinand is adamant the club´s playing staff will not let boardroom matters distract them from their pursuit of silverware in the second half of the season.
" It doesn´t bother us in terms of the way we play football, what´s going on behind closed doors," he told Sky Sports News.
" Obviously we´d like to see it get settled and done because everyone keeps getting asked questions about it all the time - every time an offer gets made or a rumour of a proposal or something like that.
" We´d rather the club stayed with people who have a relationship with the club as it is.
" But if it´s time for a change and people see it´s the right time for a change the players can´t do anything about it, and have got to let people in suits upstairs take care of it, and we´ve got to go out there and keep playing football."
However, Ferdinand´s team mate Ryan Giggs was quick to express his concern at Glazer´s renewed attempts to buy the club, and backed fans´ promises to try and scupper his plans.
" The Glazer things doesn´t affect the players, but I sympathise with the view of the fans," Giggs stated.
" As far as the club is run at the moment, there is nothing wrong with it and I know the fans want that to continue. So do I.
" They feel the club is in good hands and it can´t get any better than it is at the moment."
vu que personne esy pour lui il peut nous lacher glazer
il va pas venir dans un club outout le monde le deteste
D-day for Glazer´s United bid
Manchester United´s board meet on Thursday to decide the fate of Malcolm Glazer’s latest takeover approach. American tycoon Glazer tabled an £800million offer last week. He wants the United board to recommend shareholders accept his offer, so he will not have to deal directly with the club’s biggest shareholders, John Magnier and JP McManus. But United winger Ryan Giggs last night admitted he could identify with fans fighting to block the deal. He said: “The Glazer things don’t affect the players but I sympathise with the view of the fans. There is nothing wrong with the way the club is run and fans want that to continue. So do I."

Glazer closing in
Malcolm Glazer will win his year-long battle for control of Manchester United in the next 72 hours, according to City sources close to the takeover bid. There is an outside chance of Glazer being gazumped by an interested party from the Gulf, but time is running out. And last night the City source said: " There is a deep-rooted fear now among fans´ groups and those close to United that the board will have to recommend the Glazer proposals."

rish pair will net £85m if club sells up
Malcolm Glazer´s latest £800million bid to buy Manchester United has " astonished" racing tycoons John Magnier and JP McManus, who will decide the club´s fate. " We can´t believe he´s back again," said one source close to the Irish duo, " he´s certainly persistent - though no one can work out why he wants to stand up to the fans when they´re so much against him." Magnier and McManus were last night keeping their cards close to their chests over how they will respond to Glazer´s new offer. Set to make £85m if they sold their near 29 per cent Cubic Expression shareholding, the pair are reported to be " neutral" about the fresh deal - that reduces the debt needed to complete the buy-out from £500m to £300m.
Glazer won´t be so easy to reject this time
08 February 2005
The last time Malcolm Glazer made a bid for Manchester United, the whole thing collapsed in disarray after Mr Glazer went through with his threat to remove three directors from the board. This was understandably regarded as a declaration of war by his main financial backer, JP Morgan, which would only bankroll the bid it could be done on a friendly, agreed basis. JP Morgan promptly resigned and the bid was dead in the water.
Still, where there´s a fee there´s a way, and JP Morgan is now fully back on side with a new offer it hopes will be harder for the the board to reject. The last bid was turned down because it was highly leveraged. All other things being equal, the price was probably high enough to be recommended, but the financing meant taking into account the interests of other stakeholders, notably the fans. Throughout its recent history, United has had little if any debt, which arguably allows it to keep gate prices lower than is generally the case with other top Premiership teams, and leaves plenty of money for player acquisition. This happy disposition might have been jeopardised by a takeover largely financed by debt.
We know little about the new offer thus far except that it is pitched at the same level as last time and is said to have a lot less debt. Yet debt is in the end only a form of security, and if there are other instruments Mr Glazer is using which carry financial obligations, such as preference shares, directors might reasonably wonder if there is really any difference. The last bid was about £500m debt financed. The latest proposals carry a minimum £250m of preference share finance, which would be fully redeemed after two or three years. Not so much debt then, but still, in effect, quite a bit.
What´s more, private equity takeovers only work if they can gain 100 per cent ownership of the company. Financiers won´t provide the backing if there are other calls - say a small minority shareholding - on the company´s assets. That´s why private equity takeovers are nearly always conditional on board agreement and on the acceptance of more than 90 per cent of the equity, which allows for compulsory purchase of the rest.
Mr Glazer can probably count on the support of at least 83 per cent of the share capital, including his own near 30 per cent stake. John Magnier and JP McManus are almost certainly sellers at Mr Glazer´s mooted price. There may be other loose holders that he can rely on too. The fly in the ointment, as far as the Tampa Bay sports tycoon is concerned, are the fans, who may collectively own most of the rest. Many of these " supporter" shareholders are not in it for the money, only for love of the game and the club. Quite a few of them won´t accept even if the board recommends. Directors face a tough call.
Niemi answer to United problem
By Oliver Kay
MANCHESTER UNITED ARE PREPARING an end-of-season bid to sign Antti Niemi from Southampton in the hope of solving their goalkeeping problems once and for all. Sir Alex Ferguson has identified the 32-year-old as his No 1 transfer target after learning that Harry Redknapp, the Southampton manager, would be prepared to do business for about £6 million in the summer.
Ferguson tried to sign Niemi in August 2002, only to learn that the Finn had joined Southampton from Heart of Midlothian in a £2 million deal only 30 minutes earlier. Other goalkeepers have come under the United manager’s scrutiny in recent months — including Carlos Kameni, of Espanyol, and Jussi Jaaskelainen, of Bolton Wanderers.
Ferguson is aware that his £40 million outlay last summer, particularly the acquisition of Wayne Rooney from Everton in a projected £27 million deal, means he has already spent his transfer budget for the next transfer window, but he is hopeful of generating the funds to sign Niemi by offloading fringe players such as Kléberson, having sold Eric Djemba-Djemba to Aston Villa for £1.35 million before the transfer window closed last Monday.
The arrival of Niemi would most likely signal the departure of Roy Carroll, who has performed admirably since replacing Tim Howard in September but who has often been described by Ferguson as “steady” rather than a long-term solution to a problem that has troubled him since the departure of Peter Schmeichel in 1999. Carroll, 27, has been offered a pay rise during negotiations to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season, but of greater importance are the assurances he is seeking about his position before committing his future to United. No such assurances have been offered, so it is likely that he will leave on a free transfer in the summer.
Having seemingly lost faith in Howard and with no plans to offer a new contract to Ricardo, the unsuccessful Spanish import, Ferguson will be be looking for at least one other goalkeeper to provide competition for Niemi. Kameni, 20, may be considered for that role, but Ferguson’s coaching staff speak highly of John Ruddy, who has impressed on two trials with United this season, having already established himself as Cambridge United’s first-choice goalkeeper at the age of 18.
Valencia insistent over Vicente
Valencia have stressed that they have no intention of letting midfield star Vicente leave the club.
The Spanish international, currently sidelined after ankle surgery, was quoted in the English press as saying he wanted to move to The Premiership.
However, Los Che´s president Juan Bautista Soler has ruled out any chance of Vicente moving.
Talking exclusively to skysports.com, Soler stated that the 24-year-old - who has a contract until 2007, would be staying at La Mestalla.
" At this moment the possible exit of Vicente is in-negotiable for Valencia," Soler told skysports.com.
" He is a key player for us and Valencia needs players like him.
" For us, Vicente is a player that is always to be with this club."
The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all thought to be keen on the left winger, who starred at Euro 2004.
Chelsea chercherait à recruter Gilardino, pour une equipe qui ne cherche que 2 renforts, je trouve qu´il y a beaucoup de rumeurs...
