Glazer finds new bank
Malcolm Glazer could be readying himself for a fresh takeover assault on Manchester United after linking up with another bank.
The American tycoon currently holds a 28.11 percent stake in The Red Devils and made a move to buy the club in October.
That plan was rejected by United as Glazer wanted to borrow money against the club to finance his takeover bid.
He then flexed his muscles by ousting three members of the club´s board before being dropped by his previous bank JP Morgan.
In December, United confirmed there had been very preliminary talks regarding another possible takeover attempt by Glazer.
It now seems as though he may be preparing for another bid after gaining the backing of the British investment bank NM Rothschild.
Rothschild are not understood to be helping to fund Glazer´s bid but they are advising him on the best course of action.
Glazer´s latest attempt to take control at Old Trafford will not curry favour with the club´s supporters, while the present United board are not willing to talk to the businessman until he makes a formal offer.
Meanwhile, reports are suggesting that Ruud van Nistelrooy is worried about being fit for the club´s UEFA Champions League showdown with Milan.
Van Nistelrooy has been pencilled in to make his comeback from an Achilles problem against the Italian champions at the end of February.
But reports claim the prolific striker is concerned that, if he is rushed back into action, he could end up missing the rest of the season.
Baggies land United starlet
West Bromwich Albion have secured the services of Manchester United´s Kieran Richardson on loan until the end of the season.
The winger has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Old Trafford this term and will relish the prospect of regular football.
The 20-year-old has made just two substitute appearances for The Red Devils this season, but is likely to play a key role for Bryan Robson.
West Brom are currently bottom of The Premiership and will need an impressive second half of the season if they are to avoid the drop.
Richardson is keen to add to his game while at The Hawthorns after saying: " I´m definitely happy to go out on loan and get some experience.
" I also want to show what I can do because I believe I have a lot to offer West Brom."

United’s 76,000 seat scheme
Manchester United are planning a £45million extension to Old Trafford which will create more than 8,000 new seats. The new-look ground would hold 76,000 fans, making it larger than the country´s current biggest - the 72,500-capacity Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. It would mean United would stay in front of Arsenal, whose new £400m, 60,000-seater Ashburton Grove stadium is scheduled to open later this year. Work at Old Trafford is planned to start at the end of the season and finish in 2007.

UNITED´S 76,000-SEAT SCHEME Jan 30 2005

MANCHESTER United are planning a £45million extension to Old Trafford which will create more than 8,000 new seats.
The new-look ground would hold 76,000 fans, making it larger than the country´s current biggest - the 72,500-capacity Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
It would mean United would stay in front of Arsenal, whose new £400m, 60,000-seater Ashburton Grove stadium is scheduled to open later this year. Work at Old Trafford is planned to start at the end of the season and finish in 2007.
As well as the extra seating it will include luxurious hospitality facilities to cater for rich and famous fans.
Old Trafford will still be smaller than other European super-clubs however, such as Barcelona´s Nou Camp which has a 98,000 capacity. Planning officers will hold a special meeting to consider United´s application next Thursday.
Councillors representing residents living near the ground fear there has been inadequate consultation about the new plans.
Coun Steve Adshead said: " For people living next to the ground, there is the height of the extended stands to consider, there are also horrendous traffic implications.
" You are talking about an extra 4,000 cars trying to get into the area."
Neville salutes dedicated duo
TOUGH Guys Alan Smith and Gabriel Heinze will " run through brick walls" for Manchester United, team-mate Phil Neville has revealed.
The two battlers have invigorated the team and given it a backbone of steel since signing last year, said the defender.
He admitted: " Maybe over the past couple of years we´ve played nice, pretty football but lacked that bit of toughness."
But he said: " There´s been times this season when we´ve toughed out results - Smithy and Heinze will run through brick walls and set an example for everybody."
Smith, a £7m signing from traditional rivals Leeds, and Argentinean Heinze, a £6.9m recruit from Paris St. Germain, have both won over the Old Trafford faithful with their passion on the pitch.
Supporters initially had some reservations as Smith was a die-hard Leeds fan and Heinze only arrived in Manchester three months after signing due to international duties.
Tremendous
But Neville said in the matchday programme for United´s FA Cup fourth-round tie with Middlesbrough: " Smithy´s come from Leeds, one of our biggest rivals, but he´s immersed himself in the club and set a tremendous example from day one.
" From the first day of pre-season, he´s integrated superbly and on the field he´s probably been one of our most consistent players.
" He is a player that never moans, he´ll play in any position, and he´s just the type of player that we´ve needed.
" Gabriel is probably one of the toughest players I have ever played with. People go on about Argentinean defenders being tough and I´ve seen that at first hand. His aggression and the way he defends has rubbed off on the rest of the team.
" Smithy and Heinze have brought a toughness to the team."

Spector staying put
Sir Alex Ferguson has vetoed Jonathan Spector´s proposed move to Blackburn Rovers.
Rovers chief Mark Hughes agreed a loan deal with his Manchester United counterpart Ferguson for Spector at the beginning of January.
Ferguson was initially keen to send Spector to Ewood Park in a bid to hand him some valuable first team experience in The Premiership.
However, the move was delayed when Ferguson lost a couple of defensive options to injury and the Scot has now decided to keep Spector at Old Trafford as he fears an injury crisis could leave him short of options.
" Jonathan won´t be going to Blackburn now," Ferguson said of the American teenager.
" We couldn´t let him go due to injuries and illness to Rio Ferdinand, Gary Neville and Wes Brown, and I now want to keep him here."
The news will come as a blow to Hughes who is looking to steer Rovers clear of relegation, as he had earmarked Spector as a player capable of strengthening his rearguard.
Keane is king, says Vieira
Patrick Vieira turned up the heat ahead of tomorrow´s Highbury showdown by claiming Roy Keane is the one player keeping Manchester United a potent force in the Premiership. Despite Keane´s advancing years Vieira believes the United skipper is still their most influential player. " He´s one of the players I admire the most because he has this stuff," said Vieira. " He´s got this stuff to drive his team. He´s still one of the best in the world. In nine seasons at Arsenal there´s no doubt Keane has been my toughest opponent. I feel that we´re similar. When you´re getting older, what keeps you in the game and makes you want to compete against players like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard is that you want to be the best. In modern football, especially as a midfield player, it will be more and more difficult to still be at the top at 33, like Keane. Maybe you can do it in defence. And you never know, maybe Keane will finish his career at centre-back."

Villa eye outcast Djemba
Manchester United flop Eric Djemba-Djemba is in talks with Aston Villa about a cut-price £2 million move. The Cameroon midfielder joined from Nantes in 2003 to be groomed as Roy Keane´s eventual replacement, but has failed to impress manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Villa boss David O´Leary - who has missed out on all his original transfer targets - believes Djemba-Djemba would give some muscle to his injury-hit side. Djemba-Djemba cost United £3.5m but did not even make the bench for the FA Cup win over Middlesbrough and there seems no way back for him at Old Trafford. Ferguson will also let World Cup winning midfielder Kleberson move on, but an ankle injury means the Brazilian will probably stay at United until the summer.
