Roy ready to quit United
Roy Carroll will quit Manchester United if he is not named in the side to face Liverpool on Saturday. The blundering goalkeeper is in a contract dispute with the Old Trafford club and his current deal runs out at the end of this season. He expected to be left out of the FA Cup game against Exeter and tomorrow’s Carling Cup semi-final first-leg at Chelsea. But he wants his first-team jersey back for the Premiership clash at Anfield. If Northern Ireland keeper Carroll, 27, is left out he will know he has little chance of being the long-term No 1. He is free to sign a pre-contract with any club and leave United for nothing in the summer.

Ruud rush job
Ruud van Nistelrooy is ready to be rushed back into action in a bid to rescue Manchester United´s season. The Dutch ace, out since November 27 with an Achilles injury, may make a dramatic early comeback for the big Premiership showdown at Arsenal on February 1.

Humiliated Ferguson set to unleash big guns at Chelsea
Sir Alex Ferguson will meet fire with fire when he goes head-to-head with Jose Mourinho tomorrow night aiming to restore Manchester United´s battered pride. Ferguson is set to scrap plans to field his second string in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg at Stamford Bridge in a bid to avoid a second humiliation inside five days. The United boss will ditch his youngsters after their dismal FA Cup goalless draw with non-League Exeter and instead field a team of 11 full internationals - including Wayne Rooney - for the grudge clash with the Premiership pacesetters.
Richard Tanner, Daily Express

Fergie: I won´t panic
Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted he won´t be panicked into buying in this month´s transfer window. The Manchester United manager has a major problem with No.1 striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, a long-term injury absentee. But Fergie claimed his squad - despite the stunning failure to beat non-League Exeter in the FA Cup on Saturday - is strong enough to carry the club to success through the run-in. He said: " In my experience you cannot let one thing derail your planning. You have to cope. You can´t afford to get sunk by one disaster."

Marcari wants to see full strength Reds
Reds legend Lou Macari wants Ferguson to field his strongest side for EVERY game. Former Stoke boss Macari, 55, said: “I have never been one for chopping and changing. I do not understand this rotation.” Macari believes Fergie should forget any plans to play David Bellion as a lone striker again. He added: “Bellion is not a centre-forward, he’s a not a goal scorer — he is an outside right.”

Sevilla increase Ramos release

The release clause of Sevilla´s brilliant young defender Sergio Ramos has increased to £18 million ( €27 million).

18-year-old Ramos signed a new contract in the summer, with a release clause set at €18 million - but that has now increased further.

Ramos is rated by many as the best young defender in Spain and he has already won Under-21 honours.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both followed his progress closely, together with Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, Sevilla are desperate to fend off any interest and have now secured a new release clause on him.

The youngster is now officially a full professional, meaning he can no longer represent Sevilla´s B side - although he has been a first team regular this season.

O´Shea welcomes rest

John O´Shea has warned Manchester United´s squad is in a better shape as a consequence of Sir Alex Ferguson´s decision to play a shadow squad in the embarrassing FA Cup draw with non-league Exeter City.

The Irishman is hoping to feature in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg at Chelsea on Wednesday and is also likely to play in the replay at St James Park next week.

" It was one of them situations where the manager was forced to rest a lot of players due to the injuries we had," he told Sky Sports News.

" The team he put out was more than capable of winning the game it´s just that the conditions on the day weren´t the best and Exeter played very well.

" We´re still in the cup but the players got the rest we needed.

" Some of the injured lads are back fully fit and I´m sure you´ll see a different team down at Exeter."

Rooney And Saha Set To Return

Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha are among a group of players likely to return for United against Chelsea as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to bolster his League Cup squad with experience.

Having watched a weakened Reds team draw 0-0 with Conference side Exeter in the FA Cup, Ferguson has re-evaluated his selection policy for the match at Stamford Bridge.

With a lunchtime kick off against Liverpool on Saturday, Sir Alex will not use his strongest squad, but the Reds manager will field a more experienced side than the one that failed to break down Exeter at the weekend.

Rooney returns from suspension and is being tipped to start, while Louis Saha could be named among the substitutes after impressing during training this week.

”Wayne Rooney is available after suspension,” the manager said ahead of the game. “John O’Shea is available again. He has been out for a short spell after getting injured in the Aston Villa game on 28 December. Quinton Fortune is fit again.

”Louis Saha is coming along great. He has been doing some terrific training

”I just need to make my mind up on him. I may put him on the bench against Chelsea. He’s back and that’s the good thing.”

" We will not put out our strongest squad because we have one eye on the 12:30 kick off against Liverpool on Saturday and one eye on this tie. But We´re getting much more like our strongest squad again."

Ferguson was asked if the 0-0 draw with Exeter had changed his thinking on team selection for the League Cup semi final. " Slightly," he said. " With the young players having only played once in the past month, I won´t be starting the likes of young Pique and Jonathan Spector.

" I had to pick that team because nine of my first team squad had played six games in 21 days.

" With the injuries I had over the Christmas period I had to play those nine in all the games. Ronaldo had played in five in 21 days, so it had to be the case that I gave those players a break on Saturday. We were absolutely correct about that decision.

" What we didn´t anticipate was the performance of the team. The disappointment is always there after a performance as bad as that.

" But then, eight of those players hadn´t played since 8 December, which is a long time without football. Nonetheless, we should be beating Exeter at home."

Real Madrid are closing in on a £2m deal for Everton´s Thomas Gravesen after the Dane´s agent travelled to Spain to hold talks about a move.

:d) Oui, le Real le voudrait dés le mercato, son agent est aujourd´hui à Madrid...

Aux derniéres nouvelles Carroll a de plus en plus de chances de partir en juin, donc arrivée d´un nouveau gardien plus que jamais probable.

United eyeing keepers!

--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------

January 12, 2005

LISBON ( AFP) - Manchester United are reported to be running the rule over Benfica goalkeeper Jose Moreira for next season with Tim Howard and Roy Carroll unlikely to stay at Old Trafford.

Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, in a surprise move last May, selected the uncapped 22-year-old as his third-choice keeper for Euro 2004.

The player renewed with Benfica in April 2004 and is under contract until 2010.

:d) Je cite aussi une rumeur prise sur un forum:

A German Football " expert" sidy on Talksport that the talk in Germany is that the Stuttgart goalkeeper Hildebrand is going to join us at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Si on peut pas avoir Frey, je dis oui pour Hildebrand il est plutot doué à ce que j´ai vu.

Par contre je suis pas convaincu par José Moreira.
