NIEMI KEEN ON OLD TRAFFORD SWITCH
Southampton star Antti Niemi has revealed he would revel in the chance to solve Manchester United´s keeper crisis.
With Roy Carroll and Tim Howard both having failed to impress this season, many feel Sir Alex Ferguson will seek a new number one in the summer.
Finland international Niemi has been a big hit at Southampton since switching from Hearts in 2002 and, although happy at St Mary´s, admits he would welcome the chance to chase some silverware with a top club.
He told the News of the World: " I hope Saints don´t have to sell me but I would be lying if I said I wouldn´t be ready to talk to United.
" I´m happy at Southampton but if either Manchester United or Arsenal came in I would have to want to talk with them.
" Let´s be honest, these are clubs where you know you will win things."

United target Gravesen
Manchester United have made their move for Everton midfielder Thomas Gravesen. The Old Trafford club made contact last week with Gravesen´s Danish agent - former United full-back John Sivebaek. United have made it clear they´ll compete for the Denmark playmaker if he rejects a new contract at Everton and decides to leave on a free transfer in the summer.

Ant´s plea to United
Antti Niemi last night told Manchester United: I´m ready to replace Roy Carroll. The Southampton keeper confirmed he can end United´s keeper crisis following Carroll´s amazing blunder against Tottenham. Niemi admitted: " I hope Saints don´t have to sell me, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn´t be ready to talk to United. Let´s be honest, these are clubs where you know you will win things. I´m happy at Southampton but if either Manchester United or Arsenal came in I would want to talk with them."

Fergie looking to Rooney
Sir Alex Ferguson is considering playing Wayne Rooney in the Carling Cup semi-final against Chelsea in the wake of the Manchester United second string´s abysmal display against Exeter City.
The United manager was shocked at the level of performance displayed by some of his fringe players in Saturday´s goalless draw in the FA Cup with the Conference side, some of whom would have been expected to start at Stamford Bridge.
After consecutive home wins against weakened sides from Crystal Palace and Arsenal, the shadow team was expected to continue in the Carling Cup, despite United facing the might of the Premiership leaders in the last four.
However, Ferguson is rethinking his plans in order to at least keep the tie alive even though a stern Premiership test at Liverpool is on the horizon.
" It is possible Wayne will play on Wednesday," confirmed Ferguson.
" He has missed the last three games but he has been doing well in training, so it is a consideration."
Rooney was suspended for the past three matches after being banned for lashing out at Bolton´s Tal Ben Haim, but the former Everton striker has not previously been selected in the competition.
" If I can´t play my younger players at home in front of 67,000 people in an FA Cup tie against a non-league team there is something wrong," conceded Ferguson, who looks set to field John O´Shea and Quinton Fortune in Wednesday´s live Sky Sports 1 tie.
>> Rooney devrait revenir contre chelsea avec peut-etre Saha s´il est pret...
Mystery illness for Neville
Manchester United´s medical staff have conceded that they are struggling to establish the exact nature of Gary Neville´s illness.
The England defender has been forced to miss United´s last five games with the virus that has also afflicted Old Trafford team-mates Liam Miller, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Paul Scholes.
However, whilst the aforementioned trio have made speedy returns to action, Neville is still struggling for fitness.
Red Devils chief Sir Alex Ferguson has conceded that he is concerned about getting to the root of the problem, with United keen for the experienced defender to make a return.
´´Our medical people can´t get to the bottom of Gary´s illness,´´ said Ferguson.
´´All the tests have been done but we still don´t know what´s wrong with him.
´´He feels fine one day and then the next, the bug has returned.
´´I´m sure it will clear up eventually but just at this moment I couldn´t say when he will be fit to play again.´´
en tout cas on n´a pas vu l´equipe du futur sur le terrain . .
ou alors le futur sera triste
Be afraid Fergie
Teenage hero Paul Jones has warned Sir Alex Ferguson that Exeter fancy rewriting the FA Cup history books next week. Manchester United will wheel out their stars for the shock replay at cramped St James Park after being grateful to survive their third round encounter with the Conference side at Old Trafford on Saturday. But 18-year-old keeper Jones said: " Our ground will be a lot different for the United players. The conditions will be more in our favour. Our own supporters will be right behind us and I think we´ll have a real chance of going through. And playing at home in the replay can only give us the edge now. We did well to stop them scoring at Old Trafford, so anything is possible now."
Fergie´s warned
Manchester United have been warned they face humiliation at Chelsea. Boss Alex Ferguson’s second string were held 0-0 by non-league Exeter in the FA Cup on Saturday. And Grecians keeper Paul Jones said: “Chelsea will destroy United if they put that team out against them in the Carling Cup on Wednesday. I have seen Chelsea a lot this season and they have been amazing.”
Smith blasts Ronaldo
Alan Smith has had yet another bust-up with Cristiano Ronaldo. SunSport revealed last month how Smith tore into Ronaldo in the dressing room after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Fulham. And on Saturday, in United’s embarrassing 0-0 draw against Exeter, Smith blasted Ronaldo on the pitch for showboating. Ronaldo came on as a sub but was trying tricks rather than getting the ball in danger areas. And when Smith joined him as a sub he gave him a piece of his mind.
