ROBSON IN FOR UNITED LOAN STAR Jan 2 2005
By Adrian Milledge
UNDER-PRESSURE West Brom boss Bryan Robson has turned to his Manchester United connections to help keep the club in the Premiership.
Robson is keen to take United´s Cameroon international Eric Djemba-Djemba on loan until the end of the season.
Djemba-Djemba has not commanded a regular first team place with United since his £3.5million move from Nantes 18 months ago.
Now Robson is hopeful his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson will let the 23-year-old go out on loan.
He wants the tough-tackling Djemba-Djemba to play alongside the equally combative Matias Almeyda, with the pair adding some much-needed steel to midfield.
Almeyda is set to complete his free transfer from Brescia next week as Robson sets about following Steve Bruce´s recipe for Premiership survival.
He is in regular contact with Bruce, his former United team-mate who is now boss of neighbouring Birmingham City.
And he has not forgotten how Bruce kept Blues in the Premiership two years ago by convincing his board to spend big during the transfer window.
Bruce brought in five players, including taking what was seen as a gamble by signing French World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry.
But the striker´s arrival transformed the team and Robson wants to follow suit.
He said: " I speak to Steve on a regular basis.
" Ideally, I would like to bring in three, maybe even four players because we need to strengthen fast.
" The chairman will support me all the way."
Ca serait pas mal pour Djemba...
En parlant de mercato les clubs anglais ont de l´ambition, Newcastle qui signe Boumsong et Babayaro veut Morientes, West Brom veut Almeyda, Southampton veut Nyarko, Jermaine Pennant, Les Ferdinand et Abel Xavier , Man City veut Henchoz et Biscan, Villa veut James Beattie, Everton veut Yakubu et Beattie, Borough veut Amdy Faye ou Nyarko, Liverpool veut Anelka ou Diego Tristan...
