Keano keeping Rooney quiet
Wayne Rooney has revealed that Roy Keane, and not Sir Alex Ferguson, is making sure he toes the line at Manchester United.
England´s boy wonder joined The Red Devils from Everton in the summer and many expected Ferguson to keep a close eye on Rooney.
However, the 19-year-old has confirmed that Keane is keeping him in check.
" Roy Keane makes sure training is a serious affair, believe me," says Rooney.
" I found out if you make a mistake Keaney will be on at you, telling you to concentrate and trying to keep you from messing things up.
" It really is proper training and I discovered that from the first session.
" You have to do the best you can and put your tackles in because everyone wants to win even in a training game.
" If you make a mistake or you should have done something in a game the manager will also tell you, but I can´t say I´ve had the full treatment yet when I´ve done something wrong. He´s been nice!
" The manager really has been great with me. He always lets you know when he thinks you´re doing things wrong, but also lets you know when you are doing things right as well, which is good.
" I have to say he has been different to what I thought he might be - he´s been absolutely brilliant since I signed.
" He always backs his players and that makes him a great manager. All the players respect him."
Although Rooney has been filling various positions for his new club, he insists he will never be anything over than a striker.
" I am a striker. That´s where I have always played and why I have got in the England team and where Manchester United have signed me to play," he continued.
" If I want to drop in I can and if I want to play higher up I can switch.
" What I try to do is find the spaces and get in there to try to get on the ball.
" I am always looking for a space to run into. I like to get on the ball as much as I can to get a feel of it."
Fergie won´t condemn Wayne
Sir Alex Ferguson refused to condemn Wayne Rooney´s behaviour after the Manchester United youngster pushed Tal Ben Haim in the face during the 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.
The United boss felt the Israeli defender made a meal of minimal contact and did not feel his fiery forward deserved a red card for his actions.
" I´ve just seen it on your monitor," he told Sky Sports News. " I think the Bolton players, the ones who complained, will be embarrassed.
" The guy made such a meal of it.
" I´m embarrassed for him. I wonder what they´ll do about that.
" Certainly, the boy did nothing; just put a hand in his face; absolutely nothing."
Rival manager Sam Allardyce disagreed, thinking referee Dermot Gallagher should have sent Rooney off.
" No question, he put his hand in his face," he said. " I´m still from the rules point of view that you´re not supposed to lift your hands.
" It wasn´t a bad one by any stretch of the imagination and Tal did go down rather easily but you´re not allowed to do it.
" I think if the referee had seen it, under the rules of the game, he´d have no option but to send him off."
Ferguson feared Bolton might snatch something from the game before Paul Scholes wrapped up the points with a late clincher.
" When it´s a club like Bolton, you´re never sure," he added. " They´ve done it time and time again to almost every team, when they´ve gone down. In the last 15 minutes they always create something.
" So I´m happy we defended well and with the control we had of the game.
" We had some great chances and I suppose it´s one of those ones. With the nature of our club we have everyone hanging on, but 1-0 victories are championship form. I said that last week. The more we get of them, the more we have a big, big chance but 2-0 is obviously better.
" We had to send Gary Neville and Eric Djemba-Djemba home at lunchtime today as they were suffering from a bug.
" Scholes has not trained all week, until yesterday for the first time, so we thought the bench was the best thing for him. John O´Shea had a bit of it in midweek and I think it´s going around at the moment.
" The performances have been very good in the last few weeks. We need consistent results and today goes a long way towards that."
Carlos is the boss
Carlos Queiroz is set to become Manchester United´s next manager. The biggest question in football has always been who will replace Sir Alex Ferguson after his historic 18 years at Old Trafford and an amazing 17 major trophies. And it´s now become clear that Queiroz - Fergie´s 51-year-old No.2 for the second time in his career - will be handed one of the hottest jobs in soccer to keep the golden bandwagon rolling.

Slashed
Ryan Giggs has moved a step closer to quitting Manchester United after talks broke down over a new contract. United are adamant they won´t offer him anything beyond a 12-month performance-related pay deal, which effectively means a pay-cut. Roy Keane, who also wants to stay, is about to receive a similar offer which could see him lose £50,000 a week, paving the way for his departure in the summer.

United: We can´t afford Gerro
Manchester United last night admitted that they will be paupers for the first time in next summer´s hectic transfer market. And that means that even if Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard was available they wouldn´t be able to afford him. United´s money men would find it impossible to raise the estimated £30million asking price.

Rooney risque trois matches
Reds eye Seville whizkid
Stuart Mathieson
MANCHESTER United have got their eyes on a young Spaniard but face a fight with old foes Arsenal to nab £8m-rated Seville whizkid Sergio Ramos.
The Reds are reported to have had a spy in the Bernabeu last night watching the versatile 18-year-old in the shock 1-0 La Liga win over Real Madrid.
Ramos has taken over the mantle as Seville´s brightest young star from Jose Reyes who moved to Highbury last season.
Reyes´ successful £21m switch to the capital under Arsene Wenger will obviously give the Gunners a head start in the chase.
Ramos began life in Seville´s first team as a striker but has also been operating at right back and this season has started 15 out of 17 La Liga matches.
Proud
" If other clubs are interested in me it just makes me very proud," said Ramos. " But no-one has said anything directly to me."
While Reyes is Arsenal´s trump card in any future attempt to lure Ramos to England United have an 18-year-old Spaniard in Gerard Pique already installed at Old Trafford having snatched him from under the noses of Barcelona.
With a potential £8m bill for the Seville prospect, Sir Alex Ferguson would have to offload if he hopes to compete with adversary Wenger for the youngster signature having splashed the 2005 summer cash on Wayne Rooney.
However, with disappointing fringe players like Eric Djemba Djemba and Kleberson, who has already attracted interest from Werder Bremen, a clear out next summer could raise some cash for Fergie if Ramos continues to impress.

Gers seal winger deal
Rangers have completed the signing of Manchester United winger Bojan Djordjic.
The 22-year-old impressed whilst on trial at Ibrox and the Scottish giants have now sealed his signature.
Djordjic has signed for an initial six-month period with an option for another two years.
The Belgrade-born Swede cannot be registered until after New Year´s Day meaning he will making his Gers debut in the Scottish Cup clash with Celtic on January 9.
" This is a big opportunity for me and I am delighted with the move," he told Rangers´ website.
" I always wanted to represent a big club at first-team level.
" Of course, I have been at Man Utd before but this is really a great opportunity to get my career back on track and I aim to enjoy my time in Glasgow.
" I have signed a two-and-a-half-year deal but basically it is a six-month contract with an option for another two.
" That gives the club and I the chance to see if we are going to click together.
" It works for both parties and I would love to stay here and play a lot of matches. I just hope I can settle in, start playing and hopefully win the league this year."
Djordjic moved to United in 1999 from Brommapojkarna and he was heralded as a future first team star.
However, things have not worked out too well and he has spent quite a bit of his time away from the club on various loans with Aarhus, Sheffield Wednesday and Crvena Zvezda.
In total Djordjic made just two appearances for United - one Premiership substitute appearance against Spurs in 2001 and one League Cup game against Arsenal later that year.
>>> au revoir Djordjic
