" Last-gasp goal kings "

Arsenal beware... United are officially the kings of the last-gasp goal, according to some new statistics from Opta.

The league table of late goals makes great reading for Reds fans in the build-up to tonight´s crunch match against the Gunners. United are top, having scored more Premiership goals in the 86-90 minute period than any other team since 1992. Their grand total of 75 gives them a clear lead over Arsenal, who are tied with Liverpool and Chelsea on 70 late goals.

The stats for this season alone tell a similar story. United and Newcastle have both scored 9 goals in the last five minutes in 2002/03, followed by Arsenal and Liverpool on 8. Sunderland´s tally of last-gasp goals is rather telling - the first team to be relegated from the Premiership haven´t yet scored in the last five minutes this season. And it´s a bit too late for them to start now!
