Fergie To Stick With Young Guns
United youngsters Giuseppe Rossi and Chris Eagles could both be handed starting berths in the United team to face Arsenal in the Carling Cup on Wednesday night.
Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed to reporters that he would be fielding a similar side to the one deployed against Crystal Palace in the last round of the competition, and added that both Rossi and Eagles have a chance of making the starting XI.
The manager also confirmed that Louis Saha will be out of action until the New Year after damaging knee ligaments whilst playing for France two weeks ago.
" It will be late December or New Year before Louis comes back," said the Reds boss. " He has been very unlucky."
Heinze´s festive worry
Gabriel Heinze says he may struggle to concentrate on playing for Manchester United over the Christmas period.
Sir Alex Ferguson´s side are just starting to crank into gear in The Premiership, and the manager has pointed to a strong run over the Christmas period as key to their title challenge.
The festive period is a busy time in football with games coming thick and fast, but Heinze says he may struggle to find his top form due to his religion.
The Argentinian is a devout Catholic and says that he has always had a break from football to be with his family over Christmas.
This will be the first time Heinze has had to lace up his boots over Christmas and he is worried he will struggle to adapt.
" It´s going to be really strange playing but I hope to adapt and concentrate on what I must do," said Heinze.
" I´m used to playing a lot of games. But what is going to be difficult for me is the dates the games are on.
" For me these are very special dates in the calendar for everything that Christmas means. I´m a believer and go to Mass.
" Christmas and Easter are the most important dates in the year for me.
" I´ve always spent Christmas at home with my family. It is a very special time when we close the doors to the house with everyone inside enjoying themselves.
" It´s something you enjoy, something you feel inside. It´s the time you can recharge your batteries to continue the year with a lot of desire and more strength.
" But this time I don´t know whether I´ll be there or not - and that´s going to be really strange."
Scholes is Opta player of the month for November
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
The benefits of Paul Scholes´ decision to retire from international football came to fruition last month as the Manchester United midfielder topped the Opta rankings for November.
While The Premiership´s top players were travelling the world to represent their countries, Scholes was safely back in his native North West enjoying the extra rest that his retirement affords.
The ginger-haired midfielder hit 12 shots during the month, with three of the attempts finding permanent homes in Manchester United´s goal for column. Scholes also rediscovered his renowned passing ability and found a team-mate with a staggering 90 percent of his passes.
Frank Lampard follows up his October success in the Opta rankings with a second place in November, pushing his team-mate, Arjen Robben into third position.
During last month, Lampard and Robben either scored or supplied the final pass for nine of Chelsea´s 11 Premiership goals, although amazingly neither player created a goal for the other. Lampard´s tally of three goal assists was the highest in the division last month, while none of Robben´s fellow professionals attempted more than the Dutchman´s 15 efforts on goal.
Two players that came head to head in the 40th and final game of the month complete the top five players for November. Liverpool´s Xabi Alonso has quickly adapted to the English game and led Liverpool in passes ( 263) and tackles ( 25) over the month.
Opposition midfielders have struggled to keep pace with the Spanish international and the 18 challenges on him that the Premiership´s referees deemed to be illegal was the highest tally last month.
Like Alonso, Patrick Vieira made more passes ( 305) and tackles ( 26) than any of his team-mates over the last four games. Of those passes, 201 were made in the opposition half of the pitch, more than any other player managed in November.
Vieira also scored in consecutive league away games for the first time in his Arsenal career, although his cheeky finish at Anfield was ultimately ruled futile thanks to Neil Mellor´s dramatic late strike.
Player Team Opta Index
Paul Scholes Manchester United 1859
Frank Lampard Chelsea 1710
Arjen Robben Chelsea 1666
Xabi Alonso Liverpool 1649
Patrick Vieira Arsenal 1625
Fergie wary of Saha duty
Sir Alex Ferguson is worried about allowing Louis Saha out on international duty after picking up so many injuries.
Saha picked up a knee injury whilst playing for France two weeks ago, and he will be out until the New Year.
It is not the first time the former Fulham man has come back from international duty with an injury, and Ferguson is not happy.
The Old Trafford boss says he will be wary of releasing Saha to play for France in the future.
" He´s had a terrible time and every injury has been with France," said Ferguson.
" It is unbelievable. He has not been injured with us at all.
" It gives us concerns about him going to play for France again."
Saha has started a total of 15 games for United since joining from Fulham for £12.8 million last January.
Djordjic set for Gers
Rangers look set to bid for Manchester United´s Bojan Djordjic after the Swede impressed on trial at the club.
Gers boss Alex McLeish confirmed that the Belgrade-born star had done well whilst training with the Scottish giants, and could be made a more permanent fixture.
" He spent a couple of weeks with us and we were quite pleased with what we saw," said McLeish.
" I guess that the next stage would be talk about some kind of deal, whether it is a loan deal or a permanent one.
" But I really can´t say anything just now until I talk to Sir Alex Ferguson."
The confident winger was brought to the club as a teenager, but, now aged 22, has never been able to earn a spell in the first team.
Djordjic spent last season on loan at Red Star Belgrade, helping the club to the national title, and also spent time at Sheffield Wednesday.
Tant mieux pour Djordic.
