Newcastle have reportedly bid £4million for Manchester United´s John O´Shea.

The Republic of Ireland star has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth at Old Trafford this season.

And Toon boss Graeme Souness sees the talented 23-year-old as the answer to his defensive problems.

According to The Daily Mirror Souness tried to sign O´Shea while he was in charge of Blackburn.

Souness has bid £4million and while Manchester are reportedly holding out for nearer £6million the Geordies are hopeful of thrashing out a deal.

O´Shea has hardly figured in the Old Trafford first team this season, apart from in the Carling Cup and as an emergency midfielder.

As well as his pursuit of O´Shea, Souness is continuing to monitor Rangers stopper Jean-Alain Boumsong.

He watched the former Auxerre star play for France against Poland on Wednesday night, and could check him out in Saturday´s Old Firm clash.

Newcastle are hopeful of landing Boumsong for around £5million.

According to reports, Newcastle are expected to make a £4m bid for Manchester United´s Irish international John O´Shea when the transfer window opens again on January 1. Souness is said to be ready with a bid of £4m, but Kieron Dyer could be the key to the deal.

Three times in the past Alex Ferguson has tried to poach the England international, and now that Chelsea have made it known they are prepared to take him to Stamford Bridge, Ferguson could be first into action.
Newcastle want O´Shea, and although Ferguson has no ready available funds, he knows Dyer has little future left on Tyneside.

The Republic of Ireland international, who is equally at home at left-back or in the centre of the defence, has been out of favour at Old Trafford for most of this season.

Olivier Bernard is the strongest player we have in defence, but he is still making noises that suggest he could be on his way in the summer. Making O´Shea a perfect signing.

Totti je pense que c´est le joueur que la Roma vendra en dernier sinon le club sera mis à feu et à sang, et on sait que les supporters sont capables de tout détruire la-bas vu les émeutes réguliéres...^^

Pour Dyer il préfére jouer dans l´axe, même s´il peut jouer un peu partout. Si on dépense pas une fortune pour l´avoir ça peut être intéressant, faut voir.

Le match de l’équipe de France a laissé des séquelles du côté de Louis Saha. L’attaquant des Red Devils souffre d’un genou et manquera trois à quatre semaines de compétition.

Louis Saha s’est blessé au genou droit lors de France – Pologne, mercredi dernier. Déjà touché à ce même genou avec la sélection le 8 septembre contre les Iles Féroé, il avait alors manqué six journées de championnat. C’est donc un nouveau coup dur pour l’attaquant qui sera tenu éloigné des terrains de trois à quatre semaines et qui manquera le match de Ligue des Champions contre Lyon, mardi.

Gary Neville insists his Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney´s tempestuous England performance has been blown out of proportion.

Rooney suffered the ignominy of being substituted before half time during England´s controversial friendly with Spain on Wednesday.

The teenager had been booked for a needless push on Iker Casillas and was fortunate to escape further censure for a couple more rash challenges.

England coach Sven Goran Eriksson hauled the forward off before he was shown the red card and there has been fierce criticism of Rooney´s petulance.

But Neville has jumped to the defence of his colleague and feels a mountain has been made out of a molehill just because it concerns England.

" Wayne has now been booked twice in 20 games for England, so why do people feel the need to start talking about his temperament?" commented Neville.

" Yes, he nudged the keeper in the back but if that had happened in the Premier League, he probably wouldn´t even have been booked.

" People get carried away with England. It is like a circus every time we play, it seems to be anything but the game itself every time we go away.

" Why are people not looking at everybody else? Wayne Rooney has been built up and that is why he is the focus of all the attention now.

" Every little thing - and I am not talking about racism - gets blown out of all proportion with England. It can be players´ behaviour or just a booking and people have to accept that.

" I don´t think it is a case of anyone helping Wayne. Why do we have to help him? I don´t believe it is an issue."

Rooney was also backed by United´s assistant manager Carlos Queiroz who feels the young forward is being singled out because of his club allegiance.

Queiroz added: " Every time we play, we learn and I am sure the lessons from Wednesday night are not only for Rooney.

" They are for the whole England team. The tackles were not only from Rooney.

" Some other players have problems with some other ugly tackles, worse than Rooney.

" What I can´t accept is that once again it seems like a player from Man Utd becomes the bad guy and the others the nice guys, just because we don´t talk about what happened with the others."

Le joueur de Manchester United, Louis Saha, semble s’être de nouveau blessé au genou. Le Français a été touché mercredi lors du match amical face à la Pologne. A Manchester, on pense que Saha pourrait en avoir pour trois semaines. Il ne devrait donc pas jouer face à Charlton alors que Sir Alex Ferguson sera sur le banc de touche de ManUtd pour la 999e fois de sa carrière. Chapeau.
