Gill stresses sales point
Manchester United chief executive David Gill has reiterated his point that Sir Alex Ferguson will have to ship players out before bringing in new faces next summer.
Gill admitted in September that the budget for next season´s transfer dealings was blown on bringing Wayne Rooney to Old Trafford 12 months ahead of schedule.
The England international´s arrival from Everton has left Ferguson´s transfer war chest empty and he currently has no funds to bolster his squad next summer.
To freshen up his side, Ferguson must offload members of his first team squad before any signings will be sanctioned.
United supremo Gill affirmed his position on the club´s transfer policy, following Friday´s AGM, and admits players will have to be sacrificed if there are to be any new arrivals.
" Our announcement was that we intended to get Wayne Rooney next summer," Gill told the Daily Star On Sunday. " We have bought him now so that was next year´s budget, obviously.
" You have now got to assess where we are as a team at the end of the season, what we have achieved and where the weaknesses are. We need to try to work it out.
" But as we sit here, in terms of the first team squad, we have got 25 players.
" The manager has to give his views on those players and see where the squad needs strengthening or where it doesn´t need strengthening.
" Bodies will have to leave before we further invest. And bodies will have to leave just because of the numbers anyway.
" When Jose Mourinho wants a 24-strong squad I think any club will want that number. No, we would not add to the current squad.
" If Sir Alex wanted to invest more we would have to lose someone. And all our players are high profile."
