Giggs unsure of future

Ryan Giggs has cast doubt over his future at Manchester United by admitting he has yet to agree terms on a new contract.

The 30-year-old Welsh winger has been a feature of United´s amazing run of success since making his debut in 1990, appearing in more than 500 games for the Red Devils.

However, he told the News of the World: " I have been offered a one-year extension to my current deal but I turned it down. I was hoping for a longer deal. I want to end my career at Manchester United and asked them to reconsider.

" The club have gone away to consider it and we´re now waiting to arrange a second meeting.

" I hope that they come back to me with a longer deal. For the moment, I´ll just have to wait and see."

Giggs signed a five-year deal at United in July 2001

Duff staying at Chelsea Football Club

Damien Duff has laughed off reports he could be leaving Chelsea Football Club in January.

A number of clubs are said to be keen on the Irish international, including North West giants Liverpool and Manchester United who have held long-term interest in the former Blackburn Rovers ace.

However, despite the fierce competition for places at Chelsea – particularly from the excellent Arjen Robben – Duff insists he is happy to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for his place.

" I think leaving would be the easy way out really,” Duff told Sky Sports. " I love it at Chelsea. They´re a great set of lads and we´ve got a great manager. I´ve kept my head down, kept working hard and never wanted to leave because it´s the best club around for me."

Emre reveals Premiership desire

Turkish star Emre Belozoglu has set his sights on a move to England, his agent has confirmed to skysports.com.

Emre´s agent Ahmet Bulut has revealed that despite interest from other Italian clubs such as Milan, the Internazionale midfielder wants to try his luck in The Premiership.

The news will be a major boon for Manchester United, who are understood to be leading the chase for the talented playmaker - but Arsenal - who have bid for Emre in the past - could yet rekindle their interest.

The 24-year-old has done well in Italy since his move from Galatasaray in 2001, but he is now considering his future.

" He has a firm idea in his mind and that is to play in England," Bulut told skysports.com.

" He wants to move as soon as possible, he is 24 now and whenever it is possible, he will go.

" If we have offers to consider, then it will be England where he goes, probably in the summer, but he wants to go as soon as he can."

Bulut admitted he was aware of United´s interest - but denied that he had already held talks with the Old Trafford outfit.

" I have heard of United´s interest recently through the press and television reports, but I have not talked with anyone from Manchester," he continued.

" Emre would dearly love to play for a club like Manchester United and he would jump at the chance to play for them."

Bulut added that Arsenal could never be ruled out of the running.

" Arsenal have always liked Emre," he said.

" They were again very keen when [Patrick] Vieira was going to leave - but obviously he did not go.

" We will see what happens, but Arsene Wenger knows all about him.

" Milan are also interested - but I cannot see Inter letting him go there and Emre himself wants to move to England."

On a des chances de réussir à faire venir Emre peut-être...

Gill announced to the United AGM yesterday that money would be recouped from Lazio for the sale of Jaap Stam three years ago. The Italian club had persistently defaulted on payments for a transfer of £16m and United´s accounts showed a balance of £12m was still owing. Lazio have, however, agreed to pay half the debt now and the rest in six months´ time, with interest.

On devrait toucher un peu plus de 12M£ avant la fin de la saison de la part de la Lazio, ça aidera pour les transferts ( Emre, un gardien ? ).

Il joue dans l´axe ou à gauche avec l´Inter comme en sélection. Il est assez combatif et pas mauvais techniquement, j´ai l´impression que dans l´ensemble il est assez apprécié des supporters de l´Inter qui ne comprennent pas trop pourquoi il joue aussi peu...

Sinon c´est vrai qu´Emre + Van Bommel ce serait pas mal.

National team
Emre´s international career took off in September 2000 when, aged 19 and on as a substitute, he hit a superb individual goal in Turkey´s 2-0 win over Moldova. He was one of many Turkish internationals to improve their standing at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he made six appearances in his country´s run to the semi-finals, scoring once. A regular in qualifying for UEFA EURO 2004™, Emre could not inspire his country to a play-off victory against Latvia as Turkey missed out on a place in Portugal.

Club
He started his career at Galatasaray SK and after making his bow in 1997/98 became a first-team regular for the next four years, helping the Istanbul team lift the UEFA Cup in May 2000. It was no surprise when FC Internazionale came calling the following summer, by which time Emre had scored 13 times in 106 Super League outings for Galatasaray.

2001: Chances were harder to come by in Serie A, but the left-footed midfield player still showed plenty of potential in his debut season. He played five times in Inter´s run to the 2001/02 UEFA Cup semi-finals and looked set to be the star that many judges were predicting when he first burst on to the scene. A player who cites Zinedine Zidane as his hero, Emre enjoyed a fine second season in which he produced numerous displays of which the mercurial Frenchman would have been proud. Emre scored three times in 25 matches as Inter finished second in Serie A, and also appeared 12 times in Europe as Inter reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

2003/04: Emre failed to find the net in Europe or Italy, where Inter finished fourth to seal Serie A´s final Champions League qualifying place.
