" Cantona tips Man Utd for title" ( ERIC THE KING7)
Cantona made 191 appearances for United
Former Manchester United great Eric Cantona has tipped his old side to clinch the Premiership crown.
The Frenchman, voted the league´s overseas player of the decade on Monday, says he believes his former team can overcome Arsenal in the title race.
But he predicts Wednesday´s crucial clash between the title rivals will result in a stalemate.
" I can see Wednesday night´s game ending in a draw, but I see United as champions, honestly," said Cantona.
" I believe the United players are stronger mentally and with the pressure of the Championship they are better equipped for the few games remaining before the end of the season."
Cantona, who was recently voted United´s greatest player of all time, also praised his former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The manager is so important because he has to choose the right players for the team
Eric Cantona
" He was the perfect manager for me because I need to love and respect someone to give 100 per cent," said Cantona, who played for Man Utd between 1992 and 1997.
" I don´t know if I could have played under anyone else.
" He was very obsessional about training and what we ate and drank. Sometimes I don´t think managers show a good example. They are fat and go to the pub and drink beer.
" The manager is so important because he has to choose the right players for the team.
" He sees who has the quality, who is mentally strong and who will fit into his system. Then he is the leader and he gives them the help they need mentally to win."

" Vieira and Keane set for title showdown" ( BBC)
Vieira and Keane will resume their midfield rivalry
Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira is winning his fitness battle to face Manchester United on Wednesday.
The French midfielder was substituted in Arsenal´s FA Cup semi-final win over Sheffield United with a knee injury and was rated as " 50-50" for the vital Premiership showdown.
However, reports suggest that the injury has settled down and that Vieira will resume his rivalry with Manchester United captain Roy Keane in central midfield.
Keane was also a doubt for the match, after coming off against Newcastle with a dead leg, but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson believes he will recover in time.
The Arsenal game will suit Roy because there will be battles all over the pitch
Man Utd manager
Sir Alex Ferguson
Arsenal dismiss Ferguson taunts
" Roy should be okay. There is some bruising after a dead leg but hopefully he will be all right," said the Old Trafford manager.
And Ferguson insisted that Keane would be a more influential force than he was in a disappointing display in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid.
" He needs to be in a fight - ´me against you´," said Ferguson.
" The Arsenal game will suit him more because there will be battles all over the pitch. The criticism was unfair after the Madrid game because I played him in a position which was difficult for him.
" He needs to be in the battle but he is in the midstream of changing his game a little bit."
Ferguson is still facing a selection headache as David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Wes Brown all have hamstring strains while John O´Shea has a knee injury.
Goalkeeper Fabien Barthez will have a foot problem assessed today after stubbing his toe at Newcastle.
Arsenal boss Wenger says he is relishing the prospect of taking on Manchester United at home.
" What we have done deserves a lot of credit. We are still fighting for the championship and we are in the FA Cup final three years on the trot," he added.
" We´ll just go for it and see where we end up."

" Eric speaks. Everyone listens." ( ERIC THE KING7)
On Fergie.
“I think Alex should continue in the job because it is something special in his life,” said Cantona.
“I hope he continues and I am sure he will. I know he likes other things in his life but football is his life, and there wouldn’t be enough in his life without it.When you quit football it is not easy, your life becomes difficult. I should know because sometimes I feel I quit too young. I loved the game but I no longer had the passion to go to bed early, not to go out with my friends, not to drink, and not to do a lot of other things – the things I like in life. Alex Ferguson loves the game and will die on the United bench, I am sure of that.”
“Alex was the perfect manager for me,” said Cantona.
“I needed to blossom and in order to do that I needed to love and respect the manager. If you love someone but do not respect someone for knowing football exactly, then you cannot play for them. Some managers are fat and drink beer, and how can you respect someone who drinks and doesn’t stay fit. Alex showed an example and we followed him. I was 25 and met him at the best time of my career – he was the perfect manager to play for. Alex was obsessive about what to do in training, what to eat and drink, and what times to sleep, whereas some managers don’t know that.”
“People talk about how managers have come from France or other countries and brought these things into the game but he is the one who has given so much to English football.”
MOMENTUM
Story by editor 15 April 2003
It’s on our side.
Scholes said:
" You´d like to think the momentum is bubbling just at the right time. We’ve had two great wins and now hopefully we can carry it on at Highbury. Everyone is happy. You can´t not be after the last couple of weeks. Although we were disappointed in Europe the two league games have been great for us.It is a great boost going to Highbury three points ahead. Wednesday is a massive game."
" It is always nice to score goals and I haven´t scored for a couple of months, " he told the Manchester Evening News.
" One, two or three it doesn´t matter, it is just great to score. Every goal was worked well and I was happy to be on the end of a few. I hope to add to that now and score some more."

" Wilf´s World: FA Youth Cup"
In his latest column Wilf looks to tonight’s FA Youth Cup final against Middlesbrough. And the Reds legend revealed how the current crop of youngsters can continue United’s revered history in the cup competition…
I wasn’t able to get to Old Trafford for the semi final second leg against Charlton, but I watched the game on television and I thought the lads did an excellent job. They are now in the Youth Cup final, which really is a great achievement.
The Youth Cup brings back great memories for me. I was lucky enough to be part of the side that won the first five Youth Cups since the competition was inaugurated in 1952. Manchester United won the competition five years running and I was lucky enough to be involved in the middle three; 1953-54, 1954-55 and 1955-56, and I was captain for the last one.
The 1963-64 winning side produced players like George Best, David Sadler and John Ashton were just a few to come from that group of players, and they all went on to play in the European Cup.
So the Youth Cup has been prevalent throughout United’s history, after all the club has reached the final twelve times and won the Youth Cup on eight occasions, the last in 1995.
Looking back
I led the team out in the final in the 1955-56 winning team and I remember we beat Chesterfield 3-2 here, and drew 1-1 there. They had Gordon Banks in goal.
This cup is tremendously important for Manchester United, because the club has so much history in the competition. United have nurtured so many players from the youth team into fully-fledged first teamers, many of whom have gone on to become internationals.
When I played in the youth team, David Pegg became an international, Albert Scanlon was an Under-23, Duncan Edwards was an international, Bobby Charlton was and Eddie Colman would have been an international. I became an international and Shay Brennan went on to represent Ireland. There were so many players that went on to play for their country and represent United. And it’s the same with the current first team, there are international players who have come through the ranks at United.
It’s always been that way, there are so many players you could mention, too many, so it’s a really prestigious competition and one that we’d love to win.
Looking to the future
Now, there’s a good crop coming through. David Jones the captain is a useful player, and Chris Eagles gives the team balance on the right wing. Mads Timm has been in good form recently as well, but there was good movement and good football played all over the park against Charlton. Kieran Richardson got a goal at the end, but the team looked good as a unit.
All the players have a heck of a chance of making it, if not at United, then for another club, because they have had a superb grounding here. It’s amazing how they come through. One of the best examples is John O’Shea, who looked steady in the junior teams and the reserves, but when he got the taste of first team football he really blossomed. He’s an example to all the young players coming through of what they can achieve.
Players do that, and I believe there are some players in the youth team at the moment who are capable of making that step up. It could be a healthy period for United in terms of bringing young players on because, when you win the competition, you normally find that a group of five or six go all the way. The most recent example of that came when United won the FA Youth Cup in 1992, the side had the likes of Giggs, Beckham, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes.
Message to the fans
Hopefully the fans will get behind the team for the final, especially the second leg at Old Trafford. I was a little bit disappointed by the size of the crowd for the Charlton match, there were only 4,427 for the semi-final here. So, my message to the fans would be; Don’t get blasé about it boys, let’s support the young ones. There have always been big crowds for the FA Youth Cup so I hope to see a big crowd for the final on Friday 25 April.
Good luck to the young lads against Middlesbrough,
GIGGS RESTE......GIGGS RESTE.....GIGGS RESTE....
=>"Giggs stays "
Ryan Giggs says that he has no intention whatsoever of leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season, contrary to rumours in the tabloid press.
The Welsh winger was said to be attracting interest from Inter Milan, with several newspapers claiming that United would accept a bid of around £20million from the Serie A giants. But the man himself says he´s going nowhere.
" There were more stories this weekend about my Old Trafford future and once again I feel I should make it clear to the fans that I have no intention of going anywhere next season," Ryan told his official website at icons.com.
´´I´m experienced enough now to know there is little I can do to shut people up if they are determined to speculate about these things but at least I have the opportunity to put my side of the story.
´´I´ve got three years left on my contract with the club and I have every intention of honouring it.
´´The club haven´t told me they have different thoughts about my future, so I´m not losing any sleep about it. I´m sure it won´t be the last time before the end of the season that there are rumours but that´s part and parcel of being a United player.
´´It doesn´t bother me but I feel the fans deserve to hear the story from the horse´s mouth.´´
Such stories are bound to have an unsettling effect on players, especially ahead of such a big game as the one at Highbury on Wednesday evening. But Giggsy says that United are in great form going into the clash, and he believes that the Reds are now favourites to win the League.
´´I don´t think we could be in any better shape for such a pivotal match," he said.
´´We haven´t got the greatest recent record at Highbury but confidence in the squad is sky high while Arsenal, by their own standards, haven´t been anywhere near their best lately.
´´The pressure on both teams now is immense but I feel the momentum in the title race is firmly with us."
Keano´s gonna get yer
Alex Ferguson has warned Arsenal: Keano´s coming to get you. Manchester United boss Fergie believes the blood-and-thunder nature of tomorrow´s title crunch at Highbury is right up his captain´s street. And he insisted the Irishman loves a footballing fight and backed him to win every battle against the Gunners. Keane has been criticised since returning from his hip operation in December with some saying he is not the player he once was.

Pat salutes Keano
Patrick Vieira has rapped the critics who have written off Roy Keane. The Arsenal skipper sprang to the defence of his Manchester United rival before tomorrow´s crunch Highbury clash that could determine the destiny of this season´s championship. Critics have said Keane, 31, is no longer the force he once was because age, injuries and surgery have caught up with him. But Vieira defended his rival, saying: " Roy has had some bad injuries and, maybe, it has taken time for him to come back to his best. But he is still one of the top midfielders in the game."
Michael Morgan, The Sun
Fergie´s boss till he drops
Eric Cantona predicts Alex Ferguson will be Manchester United boss until the day he dies. Ferguson has two years left on his contract but Cantona believes he has no intention of ever quitting the Old Trafford hot-seat. There has been wild speculation that Fergie, in charge for 17 years, could be bumped upstairs if he fails to win a trophy this season. United´s current campaign will be defined by tomorrow night´s crunch title showdown against Arsenal at Highbury and next week´s European Cup quarter-final, second leg against Real Madrid. Yet whatever happens, Cantona insists 61-year-old Fergie will stay put and follow the example of the ageless Bobby Robson.

Henry in lather at romp
Thierry Henry has admitted he did not even watch Manchester United clean up in their supershow at Newcastle - because he was in the shower! Now the Arsenal hitman aims to pull the plug on Alex Ferguson´s Premiership bid. The Gunners tackle three-point leaders United at Highbury tomorrow in a blockbuster which could decide the title race. But 31-goal Henry revealed: " I didn´t see any of the United goals at Newcastle live on TV. We were at training at the time and I was taking my shower."
Andrew Dillon, The Sun
Fergie will rule at Man Utd for life
Eric Cantona last night warned Arsene Wenger and the Premiership that Sir Alex Ferguson will rule at Manchester United for the rest of his life. A year after Fergie, 61, announced the U-turn that extended his stay at Old Trafford, the Scot leads his side into tomorrow´s make-or-break clash with Arsenal at Highbury back on top of the table. And Cantona, the talisman of the United side that began Ferguson´s domination of English football, is convinced his former manager will not be able to retire from the game.
Martin Lipton, Daily Mirror
United´s strength is key to title
He´s been there and done it, witnessed Alex Ferguson work his managerial magic when the heat is on. And that is why Eric Cantona believes Manchester United will wrench the title from Arsenal´s grasp. Cantona, still a cult hero and idolised at Old Trafford, admits there is next to nothing between Ferguson´s side and Arsene Wenger´s defending champions and that he anticipates honours finishing even at Highbury tomorrow. But after experiencing Ferguson´s ability to motivate his side into the relentless championship-winning run that destroyed Newcastle hearts seven years ago, the Frenchman is convinced that the strength of mind the Scot instils will prove the decisive factor.

Eric and the Seagullible
We all knew it but it took eight years for Eric Cantona admit his most famous saying was total nonsense. Cantona´s response to the ban imposed by the FA for his kung-fu kick at Crystal Palace in February 1995 was just one line. " When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because sardines have been thrown into the sea," intoned Cantona before saying " thank you" and walking out of the press conference. But yesterday Cantona revealed that rather than the profound statement of an intellectual, he had been talking rubbish. Cantona said: " I just write and say things. I put one word together with another and so on. It should have meant something, but we don´t know exactly."
Martin Lipton, Daily Mirror
Vieira fit for Keane clash
Arsenal skipper Patrick Vieira will play in the title showdown against Manchester United at Highbury tomorrow night. The Gunners had feared their inspirational captain might miss the biggest game of the season after limping out of the 1-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Sheffield United with a knee injury. But Vieira declared himself fit yesterday, and he said: " I preferred to come off on Sunday because I didn´t want to take any risks."

United’s injury list grows as Barthez breaks toe
Fabien Barthez faces a struggle to be fit for tomorrow’s crucial top-of-the-table clash between Manchester United and Arsenal after suffering a suspected broken toe. The United goalkeeper stubbed his right foot into the ground when conceding the final goal against Newcastle on Saturday, and the club’s medical staff are now awaiting the results of a scan to determine the extent of the damage. But Barthez was still in pain when he reported for training at United’s Carrington training ground headquarters yesterday and has only a moderate chance of making the game.
Ian Ladyman, Daily Mail
First shots fired in clash of Titans
Patrick Vieira believes the way Roy Keane has struggled to come back from injury setbacks over the course of the season is a sign that age is beginning to tell. But the Arsenal skipper is on no doubt that tomorrow he will be facing an old adversary who is still one of the finest midfield combatants on the planet.
Matthew Dunn, Daily Express
It’s down to dosh, not Posh
David Beckham has let it be known that wife Victoria has not been negotiating a move to Inter Milan or inquiring into the best schools in Madrid for their sons. That insight comes directly from those closest to Beckham, as the England captain has been highly amused by the supposed involvement of his better half in the transfer speculation of late.
Harry Harris, Daily Express
Giggs: We’re the tops dogs
Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United are now favourites to win the Premiership title. The winger, 29, said: “I don’t think we could be in any better shape for such a pivotal match. The pressure on both teams is immense, but I feel the momentum is firmly with us.”
Sports staff, The Sun
Becks is back but on bench
David Beckham is facing being left on the bench for tomorrow night’s title cruncher. Manchester United superstar Beckham has recovered from the hamstring problem which kept him out of the 6-2 demolition at Newcastle on Saturday. But the nature of that win means boss Alex Ferguson is only likely to bring in Gary Neville for John O’Shea in defence.
Neil Custis, The Sun
Petit " up" ; -)
" Beckham au Real ? Difficile selon Perez"
: Figo), a affirmé Florentino Perez.
