Manchester United´s board fear Malcolm Glazer’s takeover of the club is imminent. A statement to the London Stock Exchange yesterday revealed that the American billionaire now owns 28.11 per cent of the club. That is just behind John Magnier and JP McManus, who have 28.89 per cent. Glazer’s push to take over United now seems certain — with him having spent £64million since Friday on almost 23million shares. A source close to the United board said: " They do not want him buying the club but they are powerless. For some time, the board have feared his takeover is inevitable."

Skysports.com understand that Manchester United´s latest target in Spain is Sevilla starlet Diego Capel - who is being dubbed as the ´new´ Jose Antonio Reyes.

The 16-year-old was a member of the Spanish squad which finished runner-up to France in the European Under-17 championships last year.

Arsenal´s Cesc was a member of that side, as was Gerard Pique - who joined United from Barcelona in the summer.

United also failed with a bid for Real Madrid´s Javi Garcia - again a member of that squad - and so Sir Alex Ferguson´s scouting network are obviously huge fans of the Spanish youth system and are trying their best to land as many Iberian youngsters as possible.

Now Capel - full name Diego Capel Trinidad - is being tracked by United, who have been secretly scouting him while he has been playing for Sevilla´s ´B´ team.

Capel is already on the brink of the Sevilla first team and has been on professional terms since he was 15.

He is likened to Reyes because of his left-sided role, along with his pace and eye for goal.

Capel has been with Sevilla since 2002, after originally being with Barcelona´s youth set-up and he is tied to the club on bumper five-year deal.

Sevilla, though, are confident that Capel will remain with them and emerge as one of their most important players of the future, along with fellow starlets Jesus Navas and Sergio Ramos.

Sporting director Ramon ´Monchi´ Rodriguez stated to skysports.com that they had no intention of letting Capel leave.

" The situation is under control," said Rodriguez about Capel.

Continuity Is The Key For Ferguson

Sir Alex Ferguson is demanding that United’s back four become a tighter defensive unit.

Rio Ferdinand has shored-up the Reds’ rearguard since his comeback; United haven’t lost with the 26-year-old defender back in the team.

But Ferguson is asking for even greater consistency from his defenders.

" We need to get a solid back four performance," Sir Alex told Manchester United Radio. " We need that back four performing all the time now."

The Reds have scored nine and conceded seven so far this term. Comparatively, Arsenal currently have a goal difference of +19 compared to United’s meagre +2. It is the starkest indication of why Fergie´s side lie nine points behind the Gunners.

Van Nistelrooy, Rooney, Smith and Saha are almost certain to improve the goals-scored column and, with that in mind, Sir Alex is looking for a settled back four to provide a stepping stone to a run of victories.
