Fergie Attempts To Counter Hype
Wayne Rooney will return to Manchester United later this week with Sir Alex Ferguson offering grounded development for the 18-year-old striker.
Rooney has barely been out of the news in recent weeks; his hat-trick on a thrilling United debut against Fenerbahce two weeks ago left Ferguson contemplating how to offer an even-handed guidance to the teenager.
" The next step is to keep the balance of it all,” Sir Alex told Manchester United Radio.
Rooney´s considerable talents - tested and proved in a major international tournament and on the European club stage - belie his 18 years.
Creating a neutral environment for a player that scores hat-tricks on debuts and who, despite his age, already carries the burden of being England´s imaginative spark may prove a thankless task. But it is one Ferguson intends to achieve nonetheless.
" We´ve got to remember his age," cautions Ferguson. " We have to remember we want him to be a top player in four or five years´ time.

" That means careful attention like all the young boys at the club. Like I´ve said before, he´ll get the same treatment as everybody else.
" He´ll get stamped down on if he steps out of line, but he´ll be praised at the right time."
As seen with Ronaldo, the precocious talents are expected to perform for everybody. The 19-year-old winger shone for Portugal at Euro 2004 but was then asked to spearhead the U23 Olympic team in Athens.
Ferguson has already planned against the hype for Rooney. He didn’t include the £27million striker against Tottenham in the Premiership, instead allowing Rooney extra training to prepare himself for what ended up being a phenomenal first appearance for the Reds against Fenerbahce.
" The most important thing for him is that everybody at Manchester United wants him to do well and he can trust us," added Sir Alex.
