US tycoon lines up £650m Man Utd bid
American sports mogul Malcolm Glazer has hired investment bank JP Morgan to advise on a bid for Manchester United worth at least £650 million. Glazer, who already owns 19.2 per cent of United - the world´s richest football club - is expected to approach the board with a ´highly leveraged´ offer in the next few weeks, according to sources. Bid preparations are said to be at an advanced stage. Glazer will seek the support of John Magnier and JP McManus, the Irish racing tycoons whose Cubic Expression investment vehicle is United´s largest stakeholder with a 28.9 per cent stake. And in a controversial move, Glazer plans to delist United´s shares from the Stock Exchange. Any attempt to take United private wil run into strong opposition from the club´s fans, who between them own about 18 per cent of the shares.

Glazer targets all of United
One of Malcolm Glazer´s closest advisers has admitted that the American tycoon wants to take complete control of Manchester United. And because of potential big-money bids for the club from other sources in the U.S. and Far East, Glazer will have to make his move very soon. Mehmet Dalman - who masterminds Glazer´s share purchases - revealed: " The Glazers are passionately winners and are interested in having a major involvement in Manchester United. The Glazers either want to own the club, if they can raise more cash and buy more stock, or through management or board level."
