Queiroz hails strikers

Manchester United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz said his side has an attack which is the equal of Real Madrid´s after the signing of Wayne Rooney.
The £27m deal for Rooney means United have four internationals up front, with the teenager joining Ruud van Nistelrooy, Louis Saha and Alan Smith .

" We are very excited by his signing as we now have four world class strikers," Queiroz told Spanish paper Marca.

" With Rooney, van Nistelrooy, Saha and Smith we´ve no reason to envy Real."

Former Real Madrid boss Queiroz said he wanted to help United become the world´s number one team.

" There is no denying Madrid´s strikers are some of the best in the world," he said.

" Our forwards are different but they are footballers of inspiration and talent who can play at a high level.

" We have built a young and talented team. It is balanced and we have placed the foundations for the next 10 years."

Heinze set for debut

Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze could make his debut for Manchester United against Bolton on Saturday, three months after joining the club.
Heinze has already missed four Premiership matches and a two-legged Champions League qualifier while he has been on international duty.

And as a result, the £6.9m signing has yet to meet all of his new team-mates.

But with United suffering a host of injuries, Heinze looks likely to finally make his bow this weekend.

Sir Alex Ferguson may be forced to partner Heinze with Mikael Silvestre in central defence, or play him at left-back, with skipper Roy Keane dropping back from midfield.

United´s options are limited with Wes Brown unavailable through injury, Rio Ferdinand still suspended and John O´Shea rated doubtful with a knee problem.

And the injury crisis worsened when Gary Neville limped off during England´s 2-1 win over Poland on Wednesday.

Antwerp trio tipped for United

Manchester United careers are being predicted for the Red Devils youngsters currently attached to Royal Antwerp.

The Old Trafford giants do not currently have any of their own home-grown products with Antwerp.

Eddie Johnson and Phil Bardsley were the most recent to spend time at The Bosuilstadion - and they both look to have benefited from their stint in the same way the likes of John O´Shea, Luke Chadwick and Danny Higginbotham did before them.

However, United do still have a strong presence at Antwerp as arguably three of their most promising assets are with them in the shape of Dong Fangzhuo, Souleymane Mamam and Arthur Gomez.

The Chinese, Togo and Gambia starlets respectively are only at Antwerp as United are not allowed to have them in their own youth setup in England because of work-permit regulations - but they are keeping very close tabs on the trio.

Coaches Jim Ryan and Ricky Sbragia travelled to Belgium earlier this summer and Brian McClair jetted over just two weeks ago.

" Brian was with us two weeks ago to check on the guys," Antwerp´s general secretary Paul Bistiaux told skysports.com.

" I know United are very happy with the progress that is being made by the players.

" I think particularly the way Dong and Souleymane are progressing is very pleasing.

" Arthur has had a lot of injuries, but is still doing well.

" The way it is looking at the moment, all could make it Old Trafford, and both Dong and Souleymane could be with them within two years."

The news of Qatar starlet Hussain Yasser Abdulrahman is not as good - as he has now left Antwerp and United.

" He had personal problems, although he was doing well," added Bistiaux.

" United agreed to let him leave and I believe he is now back in Qatar."

Abdulrahman had even been linked with one of United´s other partners - Sporting Lisbon - as he impressed in the Jupiler League, but he has now decided against continuing his career in Europe.
