£25m Plus Bellion
Manchester United are preparing a new bid worth £25million plus David Bellion to land Wayne Rooney. United’s initial £20m bid for the England superstar was rejected outright by Everton yesterday. Now the Reds will throw in fringe player Bellion as an incentive. Goodison boss David Moyes was at Old Trafford on Wednesday to see the Frenchman make an impressive appearance as a sub against Dinamo Bucharest. He came on to score his second goal in successive games. But Moyes might push for Irish international John O’Shea instead.

Guess Who´s Itching To Go To United?
Manchester United will today meet Everton´s asking price for Wayne Rooney by increasing their bid to £25million to clinch the signing of England´s teenage superstar. The Old Trafford board decided to increase their offer after Everton rejected their initial £20m bid for Rooney and also turned down Newcastle´s improved offer of £23.5m. Everton insisted they would not accept anything less than £25m for their prized asset and chairman Bill Kenwright will let Rooney leave by accepting United´s new offer.
David McDonnell, Daily Mirror

There´s Only One United
When it comes to a choice between Newcastle United and Manchester United, Wayne Rooney will be thinking: no contest. Here is England´s brightest young talent, a player who marked his entrance to the world stage with a flurry of foals and dazzling displays in Euro 2004. He surely does not need to run through a check-list of the merits and drawbacks of joing the respective clubs and their knighted managers.
Richard Tanner, Daily Express

Three Rs Can Teach Lesson
Manchester United believe they will have the three Rs to teach the rest of Europe a lesson. They already have Ruud and Ronaldo. Now Rooney is on his way to add his talent to an attacking set-up that will frighten any opponents. Everyone knows about Ruud van Nistelrooy’s incredible exploits in three season’s at United — 110 goals in 145 appearances tells its own story. It is why United fought off interest from Real Madrid this summer to keep the man they believe is the best striker in Europe.
Neil Custis, The Sun

Manchester United are expected to make an increased £25m bid for Everton´s Wayne Rooney on Friday.
Newcastle´s £23.5m bid was rejected by Everton, and the Merseysiders may now be offered £25m plus a player as Sir Alex Ferguson steps up his interest.

Ferguson could offer striker David Bellion as part of the deal, although Everton may want defender John O´Shea.

Newcastle, however, are not out of the race as reports suggests they may offer a package involving Shola Ameobi.

United boss Ferguson earlier revealed his desire to land Rooney and he remains in pole position ahead of Newcastle.

" We have made our intentions clear we would like the boy," said Ferguson.

We don´t want to lose Wayne but if we do the only way is at the top price and the value we want

Everton boss David Moyes

Rooney scored four goals for England at Euro 2004 as he emerged as one of the stars of the tournament before he suffered the foot injury in the quarter-final to Portugal from which he is still recovering.

Ferguson added on MUTV: " Rooney´s a fabulous player - he showed that at Euro 2004 - and is a young player."

" He´s not the finished article yet, but we´ve got experience of bringing young players to the club and bringing them on."

But it has also been reported that Newcastle are willing to go as high as £28m to land England´s star of Euro 2004.

Rooney has so far refused to sign a new five-year contract worth £50,000-a-week and it is now increasingly likely Everton will have to sell their prize asset.

But Everton chairman Bill Kenwright insists a decision is down to manager David Moyes.

" Whatever happens with the sale, if it happens, it will be down to the manager," he said. " It´s the manager´s final decision."

He added: " I would love him to be at Everton when he´s a granddad. I can´t tell you if he will be at Everton next week.

" We don´t need to sell Wayne Rooney, we do not need to sell him."

I´ve been waiting for this to happen, I just hope the deal goes through

Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson admitted he was in the dark over his club´s bid.

But he came under fire from Everton manager David Moyes, who insisted Rooney was worth much more than Chelsea´s £24m star Didier Drogba.

Man Utd to go for Real Madrid´s Solari in January

Manchester United are expected to move for Real Madrid midfielder Santiago Solari in January.

The Argentina international is inside the final year of his present Real contract and can sign a pre-contract with United from January 1.

Marca says United assistant boss Carlos Queiroz urged the club to go for Solari this summer and a bid was being prepared for the left-sided midfielder this week.

But after Solari featured in Wednesday night´s Champions League qualifier, so Cup-tying him, United chose to hold fire and instead will return for the player when the winter transfer window opens.

However, Real are considering re-signing Solari, with talks said to be prepared for as early as this week.

Wayne Rooney has told Everton he wants to leave Goodison Park to further his career.

The England striker handed in a transfer request late on Friday morning following confirmation of bids from both Manchester United and Newcastle United in the previous 48 hours.

" This has been one of the hardest decisions of my life but I feel the time is now right for me to move forward with my career," says Rooney in a statement.

" The Euros were a fantastic experience for me, it made me realise I could play at the highest level.

" To do that, I need to be with a club that is playing in Europe every year. I hope the Everton fans can come to understand my decision and I hope the transfer fee Everton Football Club receive will help the club move forward.

" The Everton fans have always been fantastic in their support of me. I hope they respect my decision and I also hope that, some day in the future, I could be welcomed back to watch the team I have supported since boyhood."

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson was telling ManUtd.com at United´s training ground that a deal can still be done before Tuesday´s transfer deadline, despite it being Bank Holiday weekend in England.

" David Gill is in dialogue with Bill Kenwright," Fergie told us. " And it only takes a second to say yes."

" The difficulty is in getting a medical done but, at the moment, we´re not at the stage where are talking about it.

" We´re waiting on an agreement with Everton before we can do anything else."
