Manchester veut Rooney, Saha dans la balance ?
26/08/2004 14:01:00

Giggs can´t wait for Rooney
Ryan Giggs believes Manchester United will boast the two best teenagers in Europe, if the club win the chase for Wayne Rooney.
The Red Devils are slugging it out with Newcastle United in the auction for the Everton striker.
The Old Trafford side have already had a bid of £20 million rejected by The Toffees while Newcastle´s improved offer, in the region of £23.5 million, was also snubbed.
Wales international Giggs is desperately hoping his United can prevail in the battle to prise Rooney away from David Moyes´ iron grasp at Goodison Park.
Giggs is salivating at the prospect of Rooney pitching up at Old Trafford to play alongside another young gun in Cristiano Ronaldo.
If Rooney does join The Red Devils, Giggs is confident Sir Alex Ferguson will then be able to select the leading teenage footballers in Europe.
" Rooney is still young but has already proved on a big stage like the European Championships that he is a special talent," said Giggs.
" Over the past couple of years the manager has tried to bring in the best young talented players around.
" And if we get Wayne we´ll have the best two young players in Europe in him and Cristiano.
" We have already seen over the past 12 months what Cristiano can do and I think everybody has been thrilled by Wayne´s play in the same period."
Giggs will be hoping Ronaldo bears no grudges as Rooney sent the Portugal international crashing to the turf with a reckless challenge in a meeting between the clubs at Old Trafford last season.

Sir Alex Ferguson is pleased his side have avoided long-haul European away trips in Thursday´s Champions League draw.
United were drawn in Group D against Lyon, Sparta Prague and Fenerbahce.
Speaking to ManUtd.com after the draw was made, Ferguson told us: " It´s a very interesting draw. We have drawn two clubs we have never played before; Lyon and Sparta Prague.
" We met Fenerbahce in the Champions League in October 1996. And they were the first team to win a European tie at Old Trafford - they beat us 1-0 later that month.
" There is some travel involved, but it could have been a lot worse. There were some long trips in the draw. So I am happy with the way it all turned out.
" There are some great names in there. The draw has a very competitive feel to it. Hopefully my squad will be fit enough to represent Manchester Unitd in the first game."
United will open their Champions League group campaign on Wednesday 15 September away to Lyon.
They then face Fenerbahce at Old Trafford on Tuesday 28 September, followed by a double-header with Sparta Prague - away on Tuesday 19 October and at home on Wednesday 3 November.
United´s final two group games will see them entertain Lyon on Tuesday 23 November, before travelling to Turkey to meet Fenerbahce on Wednesday 8 December.
