Rooney signing would boost United - Saha
Louis Saha is ready for the challenge of Wayne Rooney should the England star´s move to Manchester United go through.
With Sir Alex Ferguson hoping to add the Everton teenager to his squad before next week´s transfer deadline, Saha sees his possible arrival as a boost rather than a threat to his own place in the side.
He said: " If United take big players like that, it can only be very good for the team. It is not a problem for me. When you have got strikers like Alan Smith who can perform like he did on Wednesday, you cannot say anything like that and I will be in the same position with Rooney.
" We all know he is a good player but we have a great team and a great spirit and when you bring in an ability like that, it can only be great for the season.
" The players are excited about it. It is a very long season, we have the Champions League and it is going to be important to have a big squad. We would have good competition for every position and there are a lot of games."
With Ruud van Nistelrooy and Alan Smith already challenging for starting places, Saha feels the addition of Rooney would not push anyone down the pecking order.
" When you have a big squad, you have a lot of possibilities to adapt and play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 and it would make it easier for the manager to chose. When you have players like Ronaldo, Smith, Keane and Giggs it is just unbelievable to be training with them," he said.
Saha is close to a comeback after missing the start of the season with an Achilles injury and is in line for a return against Blackburn on Saturday.
