Got him
Wayne Rooney will become a Manchester United player by the weekend. Alex Ferguson last night entered the bidding for the England wonderboy by matching Newcastle’s £20million offer. And United are prepared to go to £25m to land Rooney, 18, from Everton. The Old Trafford giants will also offer him a wage package that the Toon will not be able to compete with. Boss Fergie is ready to put Rooney among United’s top earners on £90,000 a week over five years. Ferguson last night said: “Newcastle’s bid triggered things for us. I was hoping we could get him but time was running out and I started to think there was no chance. We will now wait to see what Everton say, but we have made our intentions clear that we would like to have the boy.”

Rooney in £23m war
Newcastle raised the stakes in the battle for Wayne Rooney last night by increasing their offer to £23.5million in an attempt to head off a bid from Manchester United. Only hours after Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson had persuaded a reluctant United board to match Sir Bobby Robson´s £20m bid for Everton´s England striker, Newcastle put a further £3.5m on the table.

Roonited kingdom
When Manchester United succeed - as they surely will - in the race to sign Wayne Rooney, they will possess the most formidable strike-force in Europe, let alone the Premiership. With Alan Smith, two-goal hero of this comfortable win, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Louis Saha and the prospect of Rooney, would there be a club with a more exciting and deadly quartet of strikers? Perhaps only Real Madrid, with Ronaldo, Raul, Fernando Morientes and now Michael Owen, could boast a more accomplished and dangerous choice of strikers in world football right now. And with United taking a significant stride ahead of Newcastle in the race to sign Rooney by securing a Champions League place, the future suddenly looks extremely bright at Old Trafford. Smith confirmed his growing reputation with the two strikes that gave United a comfortable passage into today´s group stage draw, taking his tally for United to an impressive four goals in five games.

Smith is a heroo
Wayne Rooney is on his way to Old Trafford and Champions League football. But he will do well to usurp Alan Smith as the new fans’ favourite, no matter what the Everton striker’s fee. At £6.9million, Smith is already looking a snip after grabbing four goals in his opening five games for Manchester United. At anything between £20m and £25m, Rooney will have a lot to prove - and quickly. Smith has the look of someone determined to stay in the current team. And the way he is playing just now, he has every right to. His two goals last night ensured United’s passage into the Champions League proper, with the draw to be made today.

Real Madrid have ended Manchester United´s hopes of signing Santiago Solari this season but the winger could make a move to Old Trafford next summer.
Carlos Queiroz is an admirer of the Argentinian from their time together in Madrid and Sir Alex Ferguson believes Solari can put some pressure on Ryan Giggs for the left midfield slot and allow the Welshman to operate in other positions.
Spanish sources claim United explored the possibility of bidding for the South American before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, but his appearance against Wisla Krakow means he is now cup-tied in the UEFA Champions League and less desirable to Ferguson.
In any case, The Red Devils´ priority would now appear to be Wayne Rooney as Ferguson hopes to beat Newcastle United to the Everton striker´s signature within the next week.
Although Real may offer Solari fresh terms, his existing deal expires next June, and he would be in a position to negotiate a switch to Old Trafford in January.
Internazionale are long-term admirers of the 27-year-old from Santa Fe, but United are considering making an offer to the player in the New Year.
Ferguson did try unsuccessfully to lure Arjen Robben to United before the Dutchman joined Chelsea and, despite rumours of a move for the other Stamford Bridge left winger, Damien Duff, Giggs´s only real competition for his place is provided by Kieron Richardson and Quinton Fortune, although the South African has also been deployed at left back
En gros MU veut Rooney cet été et prendrait un milieu gauche cet hiver ou l´été prochain(Solari, Duff...?).

va falloir se presser pour recruter rooney il reste plus que 5 jours ça fait pas beaucoup.
Everton chairman Bill Kenwright admits there is an inevitability about Wayne Rooney leaving Goodison Park.
After a £20million Newcastle offer was rejected by the Merseyside club earlier this week, Sir Alex Ferguson signalled his intention to sign Rooney with a formal bid for the player.
Although United´s bid is similar to Newcastle´s rejected offer, Kenwright feels Wayne Rooney may have played his last game for Everton.
" Whatever happens with the sale, if it happens, it will be down to the manager," Kenwright told Everton´s official website. " It´s the manager´s final decision.
" There seems to be an inevitability about the fact that Wayne Rooney will be playing somewhere else.
" I would love him to be at Everton when he´s a granddad but I can´t tell you if he will be at Everton next week."
" We don´t need to sell Wayne Rooney, we do not need to sell him," added Kenwright. " I sincerely hope he has not played his last game for Everton."
Rooney is still recovering from a broken bone in his foot picked up during England´s Euro 2004 campaign, and isn´t expected to start training for another two weeks.
