Fergie Rules Out Striker Swoop
Manchester United are unlikely to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline on 31 August, despite a series of injuries.
The Reds currently have nine players unavailable due to injury, suspension or Olympic duty.
But it was the failure to ask enough questions of Chelsea at the weekend that accentuated United´s injury problems up front.
Sir Alex admits the thought of adding to his striking options has crossed his mind, but he believes there is enough in his squad´s armoury.
" I would really love to bring in a new face," said Ferguson. " But if I´m being honest, I don´t think it will happen."
Ruud van Nistelrooy ( hernia), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ( knee) and Louis Saha ( knee) are all out, although Saha is expected back soon.

Rio: Chelsea Were Lucky
Rio Ferdinand says United were unlucky not to take anything from the Reds´ opening Premiership fixture against Chelsea.
The Reds were severly hampered by injuries; Ferdinand being one of nine players unavailable for selection at Stamford Bridge. But United fought impressively considering, and Chelsea were far from their lauded ´Galacticos´ status.
" I think Chelsea were a bit lucky to get three points," Rio told MUTV. " I think most people in the stadium, if they were being honest, would have said a draw was a fair result.
" Sitting in the changing rooms at the end of the match, you could tell that we were disappointed not to get something out of the game.
" We were the team that took the game to them. Chelsea sat and defended, especially after they got their goal. But maybe we didn´t ask as many questions of them as we should have done. Fair enough to them, they defended well.
" I thought we were the brighter team, especially when Scholes started passing the ball about. But Chelsea got their goal and defended very well; that seemed to be the story of the game."
Ferdinand has also been impressed with the way Alan Smith has integrated himself into United´s squad. The summer signing has become increasingly important at Old Trafford due to the sudden rush of injuries.
" Smithy has come in and pleased everyone all throughout the summer. He is a great player and he will do well for this club," said Rio.
" It may have been a bit easier if a few of the other strikers were fit and playing alongside him, but it´s also good to have him in the side because of those injuries.
" The lads here make it very easy for you to settle in. They´re a great bunch of lads. He´s not big-headed. He just came in and took his place in the changing room and got on with it. The players respect that and appreciate it.
" He´s completely different off the pitch to what he is like on it. People have this image of him as this thug or a bit of a tearaway, but he´s nothing like that off the pitch.
" In the changing room he´s probably one of the quietest players in there."

Fergie Pleased By Accomplished Backroom Team
Despite the frustration of early-season injuries and international absentees, Sir Alex Ferguson is pleased with his newly-assembled backroom team.
Carlos Queiroz´s return to the club is an obvious benefit, but Fergie also considers new fitness instructor Valter di Salvo is a valuable addition to United´s coaching staff.
" Having Carlos Queiroz back is terrific," the Reds boss told United magazine. " The great thing about Carlos is that everyone respects him and admires his work.
" Our new fitness instructor, Valter di Salvo, will also bring fresh ideas to the club; that´s his speciality."
The 40-year-old Italian, who also worked for Sven Goran Eriksson at Lazio, joined United from Real Madrid, where he worked alongside Queiroz.
" Bringing him in was something we considered last year; unfortunately there was a problem with the club he was working for, but we are delighted he has finally joined Carlos.
" Carlos had taken him from Lazio to Madrid and spoke very highly of him."
The conditions haven´t exactly been perfect for di Salvo to get United´s squad up to speed for the new campaign.
Nine players were missing for United´s trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, while Sir Alex will wait pensively to see if ten of the club´s internationals come through unscathed midweek.
Sir Alex continued: " This season has been the worst preparation I have ever known in terms of player availability. It´s been a headache I can tell you."

Rio Impressed By Reds Training Programme
Rio Ferdinand hasn´t had the chance to slack off during his eight-month suspension, especially since new fitness coach Valter di Salvo started putting him through his paces.
Ferdinand is due back for United in a month having served seven of his eight month suspension for missing a drugs test in September last year.
The Reds centre-back has been impressed with United´s training regime under returning assistant boss Carlos Queiroz and fitness instructor di Salvo.
" Carlos has brought in Valter di Salvo, our new fitness coach. And, because I´m not playing at the moment, he has been running me into the ground!"
Carlos´ Queiroz´s training sessions were widely credited as a contributing factor to United´s Premiership title win in 2002/03.
And Ferdinand believes the fitness work United have been doing this summer will provide better stamina come the crucial latter stages of the season.
" He [di Salvo] has worked at Lazio and Real Madrid, so he´s worked with the very best before and you feel comfortable and confident in what they are doing," Rio told MUTV.
" Our training will hopefully pay off later on in the season where we will be able to keep kicking on in games, especially the later stages of matches."

c bon pour man utd !
Ronaldo Comes Home Early
Cristiano Ronaldo makes an earlier-than-expected exit from the Olympics after Portugal crashed out of the competition with a 4-2 defeat to Costa Rica.
Portugal needed to avoid defeat to set up a quarter final clash with tournament favourites Argentina, for whom Ronaldo´s new United team-mate Gabriel Heinze plays.
Ronaldo was an unused substitute in the match on Wednesday night. From a United point of view, Ronaldo´s early departure from the games in Athens will be a blessing.
Both players have faced long summer schedules. Ronaldo, on the back of his first full season with United in which he made 40 appearances, was influential in Portugal´s run to the Euro 2004 final.
And at only 19, Sir Alex Ferguson would have pensively followed his progress while away on Euro 2004 and Olympic duty.
For Heinze, Olympic gold is his motivation: " Winning a gold medal would be one of the biggest moments of my career and I want it badly," he told PA.
Heinze´s summer schedule has been equally hectic. A full season with former club PSG was followed by Copa America duty with Argentina.
Sir Alex was disappointed that Argentina selected Heinze for the Olympics. And that frustration may rear its head again as Argentina have four 2006 World Cup qualifiers before the end of the year.
Argentina have qualifiers against Peru ( 4 Sept), Uruguay ( 9 Oct), Chile ( 12 Oct) and Venezuela ( 16 Nov) before the year is out.

Ronaldo boost for Man Utd
Manchester United have been boosted by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, who could line up against Premiership newcomers Norwich on Saturday.
The winger has returned to Old Trafford earlier than expected after Portugal were surprisingly knocked out of the Olympics by Costa Rica.
The 19-year-old will resume training on Friday and may be thrown straight back into United´s injury-hit side.
Sir Alex Ferguson had said he would have to rest Ronaldo for three weeks.
However, the winger - who had a starring role for host nation Portugal at the European Championship - only played two games at the Olympics.
Cristiano devrait jouer samedi ^^
Man Utd trials for Zambia starlet
Manchester United have handed trials to teenage Zambian striker Mwaba Mulenga.
The youngster hails from Kitwe United in his homeland and has been trialling at Old Trafford for the past two weeks.
Real Madrid, Man Utd scout Bonera
Real Madrid and Manchester United are among clubs to be following Parma fullback Daniele Bonera at this month´s Athens Games.
After starring with Italy´s U21 European Championship winning team earlier this summer, Bonera has carried on his form into the Olympics.
The right-back is being scouted by both United and Real Madrid, though neither club will bid for the youngster until January at the earliest.
Bonera is also a prime target for Juventus and AS Roma.
