Moyes´ Rooney expectations
David Moyes expects Wayne Rooney to honour his present Everton contract, even if he fails to agree to an extension at Goodison Park.
Rooney currently has two years remaining on his current Toffees deal and is locked in negotiations regarding a new five-year contract.
The teenage striker´s performances at Euro 2004, though, have heightened interest in his services, with both Manchester United and Real Madrid keen.
Toffees boss Moyes insists there has been no official bid from any of Rooney´s suitors and remains hopeful the presently injured forward will stay on Merseyside.
But Moyes admits that if Rooney declines to sign fresh terms, he is prepared to let the matter be decided by a tribunal when the 18-year-old comes to leave Goodison Park.
" As things stand now, there hasn´t been any official approach from anyone," Moyes told the Sunday Mirror.
" I would tell Wayne that, even if he doesn´t sign the deal, we will be asking him to honour the final two years of his contract.
" Then the final fee would be decided by a tribunal and I am sure they would look favourably on us."
Moyes is expecting Rooney to ink a new contract shortly but reports are suggesting the youngster, and his advisors, want a clause inserted in to the deal.
Speculation claims the clause would enable Rooney to move to United for a fixed fee and Moyes accepts the rumours surrounding the gifted attacker will not die down if he does sign the deal.
He added: " I am sure something will be concluded shortly with Wayne. We have had some very good conversations and I think he will sign.
" It would be great to get it all tied up because it is a saga that needs concluding quickly for the good of the club.
" But even then I don´t expect all the speculation to go away.
" The bottom line, though, is that the final decision over whether Everton sell Wayne Rooney or not lies with me."
Ferguson targets £12m Defoe
Sir Alex Ferguson will attempt to prise Jermain Defoe from Tottenham this week in order to solve Manchester United´s striker crisis. Ferguson will need boardroom approval to finance the £12m deal but is confident of signing the Spurs striker, who scored for Tottenham in yesterday´s 1-1 draw with Liverpool. Tottenham are reluctant to sell a player who has been at White Hart Lane for only seven months but would be expected to accept a substantial offer.

Have you got the backbone?
Sir Alex Ferguson last night challenged Chelsea to prove that they have got the backbone to become the next Premiership champions. He warned Mourinho that the one thing Roman Abramovic´s millions can´t buy is the know-how that United and Arsenal have acquired as they´ve gone head-to-head over the past decade. Fergie insisted: " It would be crazy for people to write us off for the title. If there is one thing I am certain of, it´s that I have a terrific bunch of players and a great group of personalities. We have the players - and so do Arsenal - who have been there and done it in terms of the Premiership. Chelsea haven´t got that kind of backbone as far as the English game is concerned. Certainly they´ve bought some top-class players with experience at the highest level, but I feel that in terms of challenging for the Premiership title they are playing catch-up."

Ferguson is banking on Scholes striking it rich
Paul Scholes will be handed the responsibility for getting Manchester United through a striker crisis that threatens to strand Sir Alex Ferguson´s team at the gate when the Premiership starting stalls open. United´s manager will ask his Mr. Reliable to join Alan Smith in a front-line partnership at today´s enthralling match at Chelsea. " Paul is Manchester United through and through," said Ferguson. " I could put him anywhere in the side and he would do well. He´s a great team player."

Drogba shock: " I don´t feel good"
Didier Drogba, Chelsea´s record £25million striker, has a worrying confession on the eve of his Premiership debut against Manchester United. Drogba has already thrilled Chelsea fans with three goals in three friendlies since his transfer from Marseille. But as United head for Stamford Bridge today, he has given a troubling insight into his readiness for action. Drogba said: " The goals are fine, but they mask a bit the fact that, physically, I do not feel good. I have played quite a few matches this summer with the World Cup qualifying games for the Ivory Coast. I have had very little holiday, just 12 days, and haven´t had the time to recover from my last two seasons. I am suffering in training."

Rooney set to sign new deal
Everton star Wayne Rooney will sign his new five-year contract - but that won´t stop Manchester United buying him at the end of the season. Everton have finally got England´s teenage ace to agree to put pen to paper on a new £40,000-a-week deal - with the only stumbling block a get-out clause. Everton will have to accept that the 18-year-old striker will only stay for one final season.

Goals* ^^
Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping to get the go-ahead from the Manchester United board to make a £12m offer for Tottenham striker Jermaine Defoe. ( Mail on Sunday)
But Ferguson is also thought to be keen on luring Newcastle striker Alan Shearer to Old Trafford. ( Sunday People)
Liam Miller fait partie des 9 joueurs à suivre présentés par le Daily Mail(avec Pennant, Bentley, Defoe, Flamini, Robben, Reyes, Downing et Zat Knight) :
Highly-rated Liam Miller left Celtic on a free transfer. The Irish midfielder has a good engine and should notch a few goals for the Red Devils.
