Wayne Rooney has been urged to turn his back on Everton by former Goodison Park colleague Francis Jeffers.
Jeffers completed his first training session with Charlton after signing from Arsenal in a deal worth up to £2.6m and then advised Rooney to follow his example by seeking a new challenge.
" With all the stuff going on off the field at Everton it is bound to affect Wayne mentally," said Jeffers. " I´d love Wayne to stay because I am an Evertonian and when I stop playing I will be back there watching. But it looks best for all parties for him to move.
" Wayne is a world-class player but maybe Everton are not as ambitious as they seem. After all, they sold good young players like Michael Ball, Richard Dunne and myself. Maybe the board need to be more ambitious."

Smith Impressed With Fighting Spirit
Alan Smith was impressed with United´s fighting spirit in Bucharest, as the Reds edged in front in the Champions League qualifier with a 2-1 win.
Smith had a goal disallowed and hit a post on his competitive debut for United, but says the result was most important.
" The lads worked hard and we got a good result in the end," he told ITV Sport. " They [Dinamo Bucharest] started brightly. The crowd got behind them.
" Once we got settled we started playing some good football and we should have had more goals.
" We came here looking for a positive result and we knew that we were capable of scoring. We managed to score twice, so we´ve got to be happy going back to Old Trafford with a 2-1 victory."
The second leg at Old Trafford on Wednesday 25 August leaves United in a strong position to make the group stages.
Dinamo Bucharest 1 Manchester United 2
Alex Ferguson called on his old soldiers to pull Manchester United through last night. And the veteran of them all, Ryan Giggs, responded with a performance that suggested his best days are far from behind him. Giggs has been written off many times over the last two years. After 14 years at the top with the club, the 30-year-old still finds the desire to turn it on for United. There are few better sights in football than the Welsh Wizard in full flow with the ball under his spell. And the Dinamo Bucharest players certainly fell under his magic. Giggs scored one goal and set up another to wipe out a Quinton Fortune own goal and send United moving towards the money-spinning Champions League group stages.

Fergie gamble pays off after own-goal blow
Sir Alex Ferguson´s great European gamble paid off last night as his depleted Manchester United team fought back to win 2-1 at Dinamo Bucharest in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier. Missing eight players, Ferguson went for broke, fielding captain Roy Keane in the centre of defence and picking midfielder Darren Fletcher and full-back Quinton Fortune, even though the pair had played little more than an hour of pre-season football before last night. The early signs were not good as United went behind to a Fortune own goal in the 10th minute. But they rallied superbly and Ryan Giggs equalised before half time. The winning goal came 18 minutes from time when Dinamo defender Alistar deflected a cross from substitute Liam Miller past his own goalkeeper.

Fergie hails comeback
Alex Ferguson hailed his heroes for a fightback that kept them on target for the Champions League. United recovered from going behind after only 10 minutes to grab a 2-1 first-leg victory in Romania. Fergie said: “You have to be pleased when you win away in Europe. After a bad start, it was very pleasing to recover and go on and win the game. They have some good forward players and we had to be alive and alert. But in the end I was pleased with our positive performance. It gives us a great opportunity for the second leg at Old Trafford.”

United ready for Vassell bid
Aston Villa are bracing themselves for an official approach from Manchester United for Darius Vassell. Villa’s continued pursuit of James Beattie has alerted Alex Ferguson to doubts now surrounding Vassell’s future. And the vibes from the Midlands club last night suggested the England striker, 24, could be up for grabs if the price is right. Ferguson is desperate to boost United’s firepower after his injury crisis deepened this week with the news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been ruled out for the entire season. Ruud van Nistelrooy is sidelined for six weeks with a hernia problem while Louis Saha ( knee) faces a month out.

I´m not fully fit says Ron
Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he is less than fully fit - but should be raring to go when the Olympic football tournament begins. " I am not 100% ready but I believe I will be fit and ready at the premiere," said Ronaldo.
vaut rien vassel
serieux on a rien depenser . ...
ca devient chaint . .
