Selon un sondage effectué auprès de plus de 40.000 supporteurs anglais, Chelsea part favori pour remporter la Premier League cette saison.

32,1% des personnes interrogées ont choisi Chelsea. Le champion en titre Arsenal arrive en deuxième position avec 28,9 %. Manchester United, champion à huit reprises depuis 1993, figure à la troisième place ( 17,7 %). Enfin, 8,9% des sondés considèrent que Liverpool renouera avec un titre qui lui échappe depuis 1990.

Dauphin d´Arsenal la saison dernière, Chelsea a recruté de nouvelles vedettes à l´intersaison, dont l´attaquant ivoirien Didier Drogba ( Marseille), les internationaux Portugais Tiago ( Benfica), Ricardo Carvalho ( Porto) et Paulo Ferreira ( Porto), ainsi que le gardien international tchèque Petr Cech ( Rennes).

City hopeful of star stay

Manchester City are hopeful star winger Shaun Wright-Phillips will pledge his future to the club by putting pen-to-paper on a new deal at the club.

The 22-year-old still has two years remaining on his deal with the City of Manchester Stadium side, however the Eastlands outfit want to prolong his stay.

Head of communications Paul Tyrrell confirmed talks between the two parties have commenced and that the youngster is a vital member of the club´s squad.

" We remain confident that Shaun will pledge his long term future to City," Tyrrell told the club´s official website.

" The talks are constructive and ongoing and we have made it clear how important Shaun Wright-Phillips is to Manchester City."

Wright-Phillips was a virtual ever-present under manager Kevin Keegan last term, and the former Newcastle and England coach will not even entertain the idea of the youngster departing.

" I don´t think there is really an awful lot to say about these rumours. I have never had a conversation about him leaving the club," said Keegan.

" I think Manchester City without Shaun Wright-Phillips is not even worth talking about."
