Man Utd strike duo return

Saha and Van Nistelrooy are ready to return to United´s attack
Manchester United´s forward line should be at full strength this week as Ruud van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha are set to return to the side.
The duo, who stayed in Manchester to work on their fitness instead of going on the US tour, should face PSV Eindhoven in Tuesday´s Vodafone Cup.

" The thing uppermost in my mind is how Van Nistelrooy and Saha are," said United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

" If they have trained at the right levels I´m certain they´ll play."

After relying on Van Nistelrooy for much of last season, Ferguson will be pleased he has more attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

New £7m signing Alan Smith has already staked his claim to a first-team spot by impressing during the friendlies in America.

" He has been away with the team and shown the type of player he is," said Ferguson.

" He plays with great heart, is a busy centre-forward and I think he will do well."

Midfielders Darren Fletcher and Quinton Fortune are also ready to start their competitive pre-season tune-ups.

But the midfield pair are more likely to face Japan´s Urawa Red Diamonds at Old Trafford on Thursday.

Guus Hiddink is backing Ruud van Nistelrooy and Alan Smith to fire the goals that will bring the title back to Old Trafford. PSV Eindhoven coach Hiddink insists Manchester United are not the third best side in the top flight. He declared: " I see Ruud and Alan as the guys who can bring the title back to United. A lot of the talk at the moment is all about Arsenal and Chelsea. Manchester United seem to be rated third best. But I do not see it that way at all. United, with Ruud and Alan up front, have the power and goal potential to finish as top dogs. Ruud will always score goals and create chances for others and that has got to be good news for Alan. Smith is a real nuisance as a player and has lots of aggression. He will be a real handful for defenders and, because they are so busy trying to keep him quiet, they will take their eye off Ruud and give him even more openings to score. Ruud and Alan will be very good together." PSV meet United in the opening game of the Vodafone Cup at Old Trafford tonight.

It’s the kind of trophy the scousers would cherish.

However Fergie sees it as it is, a pre season warm up.

" I have a good feeling Ruud will be ready for the Champions League," said Ferguson.

" We are only nine days away from a European qualifier, so it´s vital for him, and all the other players who didn´t go to America, to take part in both games this week in order to assess their fitness. Once we get through this week we can decide whether to play him against Arsenal [in the Community Shield on Sunday]."

Foot - L1 : Metz saisit la FIFA pour Saha

Le FC Metz a déclenché une procédure de saisine de la commission ad hoc de la Fédération internationale au sujet du transfert de Fulham vers Manchester United de son ancien attaquant Louis Saha, indique lundi le club lorrain sur son site internet.

Formé à Metz où il a joué jusqu´en 2000 avant de partir pour Fulham, Saha a été transféré de Fulham en janvier vers Manchester pour 18,3 millions d´euros et une durée de 5 ans et demi. Selon le club lorrain, Fulham doit «reverser à Metz 15% de la plus-value qu´il a réalisé en vendant Saha à Manchester United. Ceci représente une somme supérieure à 2 millions d´euros, ce qui n´est pas négligeable pour un club comme Metz».

«Il est à noter que les deux clubs anglais ont officialisé, via leurs sites internet respectifs, le règlement direct de l´indemnité de transfert, à hauteur de 18 millions d´euros. Fulham a donc touché son argent, mais pas Metz», poursuit le club, précisant que la procédure de saisine a été engagée compte tenu du «silence désobligeant du club de Fulham».

Ricardo Harbours Hopes Of Ousting Howard

Forgotten goalkeeper Ricardo defiantly insists that he intends to become United´s first choice between the sticks.

The Spaniard spent last season on loan at Racing Santander, and is perceived as lagging behind Tim Howard and Roy Carroll in the race to be Sir Alex Ferguson´s starting keeper.

But with a potential start against PSV Eindhoven in Tuesday night´s Vodafone Cup clash looming, Ricardo insists that his future lies at Old Trafford.

He said: " I always believe that I am capable of being the number one. I believe in myself. I have worked hard all my life to get to this position at a club like Manchester United and I am not going to drop my hands and give up. I am going to fight for my place. I won´t give in.

" But I am a realist and when Tim Howard arrived last season and we had four goalkeepers it was difficult to just sit and watch.

" I needed to play and so I thought it was the best thing for me to go back to Spain and play. It is important for me to play.

" I was very happy in Santander but I then looked forward to coming back to Manchester and pre-season and to work hard and show the technical staff that I can play in this team.

" I have come back with more power and more confidence. I always wanted to come back to Manchester. I didn´t go back to Spain last year to try and get a permanent move back to the Spanish League."

Djemba Aiming For Second Season Stability

Cameroon midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba feels that his country´s shock absence from the Olympics will benefit his United career.
The Lions won Gold at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, but were surprisingly eliminated in the Athens 2004 qualifiers.

Djemba-Djemba´s debut season with United was constantly disrupted by international commitments and personal problems, but the abrasive midfielder is looking ahead to a trouble-free 2004/05 season.

He said: " There were a lot of problems last year for me. I had to return home to look after my mother when she was ill, then I had Olympic Games qualifiers with Cameroon and African Nations Cup matches.

" It wasn´t helpful at all for me settling into a new club and country.

" But this year everything is clear. This season is a big test for me now and I have nothing to impede it. I hope to play more and more games this year.

" Not going to the Olympics was disappointing for the country but I can now concentrate on United and not be catching up with things again.

" Maybe this year I can do a lot better. It won´t be easy because we have Roy Keane and Paul Scholes and a lot of big players in midfield. But I believe in myself and I believe I can get a place."

A priori il va bien, même si on a du mal à avoir des infos sur l´équipe...Il s´entrainait à Manchester avec Saha notamment, pendant que les autres étaient aux USA.

j´ai lu des articles comme qoi il etait blesser et aisait une course pour etre pret pour le tour preliminaire

Hammers Complete Signing Of Chadwick

Luke Chadwick has completed his move to West Ham, the London club have confirmed.

Hammers boss Alan Pardew reckons Chadwick will prove a crowd-pleaser at Upton Park, saying: " He is certainly a player the fans will enjoy watching."

Chadwick, 23, played under Pardew when he was at Reading in 2002/03, helping the Royals to a play-off finish.

" I am delighted to have signed a player with great potential," Pardew told West Ham´s official website.

" Luke did well for me when I took him to Reading and I expect him to become an exciting and important part of the squad."
