Smith eyes role as Ruud´s partner
ALAN Smith is relishing the prospect of partnering Ruud van Nistelrooy in the Reds´ attack.
The £7m close-season signing from Leeds made his debut for United against Bayern Munich at the weekend in the club´s pre-season tour of the States, and will be lining up for his second start aginst Celtic in Philadelphia tonight.
However, he will have to wait to be paired with United´s prolific marksman Ruud van Nistelrooy, as the Dutchman has been excused tour duties due to his participation in Euro 2004.
But it´s a prospect which fills Smith with eager anticipation.
" I can´t wait to play alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy.
" I have played with great strikers in my time including Jimmy Hasselbaink, Mark Viduka and Robbie Fowler.
" Now I am going to have the chance to play alongside Ruud and Louis Saha which is something I am really looking forward to."
