During a television interview this week on CNBC, Take-Two Interactive CEO Kelly Sumner revealed that he believes Sony won´t introduce its next videogame console until 2006 in order to maximize profits from the PlayStation 2. Sumner also said he believed Sony would delay the introduction of its next console in order to maintain an advantage in the console market. In Sumner´s estimation, Sony currently controls an estimated 70 percent of the global console market. Based on recent sales data and the belief that this trend will continue among existing consoles, Sumner believes Sony will try and maximize profits through hardware and software sales until market conditions force the company to introduce their next console.
