" May 17, 2002 (TOKYO) -- Ken Kutaragi, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE), spoke at a press conference held on May 14 to outline the Sony Group´s business plans.

Touching on Sony´s semiconductor investment strategy, Kutaragi said that the next-generation microprocessor that SCE is co-developing with IBM Japan Ltd. and Toshiba Corp. is not intended for a next-generation PlayStation (PS) game console. Although still at the development stage, the microprocessor is a "network processor" designed for servers, to enable online gaming and video on demand (VOD), Kutaragi said.

Joint development of a next-generation microprocessor, code-named CELL, was announced by the three companies in March 2001. At the recent press conference, Kutaragi insisted that "although the processor is widely assumed to be for a next-generation PS, that is not correct."

le développement du processeur semble encore peu avancé, peut être pour la ps4 ?
