Was there today, I had the privilege of having a chat with Trevor Timmins, on a lot of subjects, some more interesting than others, he´s truly a nice guy, totally available, answering everything as much as he could.
The problem with those development camps is there´s no names, no numbers so I do follow our prospects but don´t know them all by face, especially with a helmet on....But here´s what happened today:
1- Skating exercices only, power skating, line to line, jumping on 1 feet skating from the blue line to the other all those conducted by Gaston Gingras, the guy is always there in those camps but not considered for a coaching job, that´s a little bid odd. No scrimmages, no 1 on 1 nothing like that.
2- Goalies were working with Melanson, 2nd part of the day was great, they were mostly working around the net with a puck and that´s where you truly see the difference between Price and Lacasse, Price is just great handling the puck. As a matter of fact today, the only goalie who received some shots was Lacasse.....5 minutes before the end and he had to ask if he could receive some.
3- From the guys I know, face wise...., they all had a good day. Tough to determine though but I thought everyone´s skating was OK for a first day.
a) Always impressed how O´Byrne´s skating looks great for a guy that size. He´s just huge out there, not only is he the tallest but definately fills his size as well. There´s obviously some improvement as far as his agility is concerned but nevertheless I´m a fan of his.
b) Korpikari does his job nicely, nice fluid skating, nothing great, nothing bad, just like the type of player he is.
c)Fisher was truly fun to watch, everybody was taking those drills real seriously, he was to but with that funny smile on his face, seemed to enjoyed what he was doing, fell once, laughed about it, always that smile but working hard as well.
Thought that he was slower than expected at the beginning, but in the end he kind of regain some speed. He talked to a lot of guys, I think I see, just in one day, the kind of leader he could become.
d)Kosty Jr., well the first thing that I said when I looked at him, was that he seems so small compared to the others. Again, pretty sure it was him but as far as height is concerned, seemed the smallest. But he´s truly bulky, built like a tank, mostly when you compare him to guy like Mikus and Maxwell, which again I still I´m not sure who´s who....
e) Aubin, well pretty tall guy, his style could look like Urquhart but he´s much more bigger than Cory at his age. Not the greatest agility out there but I though he skated pretty well.
f) Again, if I´m not mistaken, and I´ll tell you that tomorrow, I was impressed by some natural skater that we have but one in particular and it´s Carle. His skating is so natural, he´s definately one of the greatest skater in this camp, not necessarily the fastest but he´s very agile, sharp turns, I was impressed.
g) As of today, don´t ask me who´s Maxwell, Mikus, White, Fréchette, Dulac, Paquet, Wyman, Stewart, Gleed. I had no recollection of their faces this morning, I´ll look it up tonight so I know who´s who tomorrow.
h) There was one d-man who I didn´t had done that well. He´s pretty tall and looked like Patrick Traverse so it´s either Dulac, Gleed or Paquet. I´ll watch some pictures and tell you about him. But didn´t look that fast nor that agile.
i) Chipchura and Latendresse weren´t there today, are in a camp with Equipe Canada and will be there Wedenesday
About my chat with Trevor Timmins here´s what he had to say (some things we might know already obviously....)
a) Emelin NEVER received an offer that he turned down. Habs are still waiting for the agreement to be signed and then still hope to have him come over.
b) Mikus will definately play in Chicoutimi this year.
c) Thinks that valentenko is an Emelin with a better shot. Thinks highly of him.
d) Doesn´t understand why everybody thinks Carle hasn´t a great work ethic and is out of shape. Told me that he was in a superb shape, and is now having a great work ethic. True that in the past, it could,ve been the case but not anymore and for a long time now.
e) Giroux was definately on top of his list. Something that may have stopped him from drafting him was his slow feet. Made some testing with him, and with his test, Carle was just eating Giroux alive with how agile and how his feet were fast....
f) Said that they decided to go with needs in last year´s draft but he did say that whenever it´s too close to call between a d-man and a forward, he will always go with the d-man, ´cause it´s too hard to find.
g) Said that they got, at last year´s draft, 5 guys in their own top 30. Cepek was obviously not on that list but the others were inclunding Valentenko.
h) He´s truly high on Fischer, of course, just love his skating and his passing abilities.
i) Yes I did it. I did compare Milroy to D´Agostini and I had my first big eyes of the day. I don´t think he likes Milroy that much but that´s my impression. But he truly loves D´Ago, first Matt, up close, just looks like Chris Higgins´ twin. And Timmins also thinks he could become the same kind of player.....
j) My gut feeling tell me that Price will not begin the season with Tri-City......stay tuned!!! Thought that Price had a big disadvantage this year over guys like Pogge ´cause of the smaller pads he was using.
k) To confirm it, Kosty Jr. is going with his team only for the summer will be back with London after. Don´t expect Kosty Jr. to be in the AHL either. They want him to succed in London and be a leader over there with Schremp´s loss and everybody else.
l) Thinks highly of Lacasse, said that they had to make him an offer based on the fact that he was hurt a lot this year and played well when he got back.
So again, no scrimmages, or games this week.....EXCEPT that Saturday there will be some. Same time, and guys will have their jerseys on. Thought that it ended Friday but they´ll be there Saturday.
Keep you posted throughout the week, I have no life, wife is working nearby, on vacation, so what else to do but to freeze to death in this small small arena.
But was fun nevertheless!!!
intéressant !
