Fernando Roig, président de Villarreal, a annoncé hier la signature « imminente » de Robert Pires pour les deux prochaines saisons. Le milieu français de 32 ans, à qui les Gunners n´avaient proposé qu´une année supplémentaire, était arrivé à Arsenal en 2000. « En recrutant Pires, nous voulons continuer à améliorer notre équipe comme c´est le cas chaque saison », a expliqué Fernando Roig, qui n´en veut visiblement pas au Français d´avoir contribué à l´élimination de son club en demi-finale de la Ligue des champions. La saison prochaine, Villarreal, seulement 7e de la Liga, se contentera de la Coupe Intertoto.

Le milieu de terrain international tchèque du Borussia Dortmund Tomas Rosicky n´évoluera pas la saison prochaine à l´Atletico Madrid. Pourtant annoncé chez les Colchoneros depuis le mercato, Rosicky a été contraint d´abandonner cette piste, le club espagnol n´ayant pas confirmé son option d´achat à la date convenue avec le club allemand. Rosicky (53 sélections, 15 buts) étudie désormais les autres propositions parvenues au Borussia. L´arrivée du prodige argentin d´Independiente Sergio Agüero a sans doute barré la route de l´Atletico au milieu de terrain tchèque.
