After trailing 13-7 the 49ers came back to dominate in the second half, scoring four times off of turnovers to win the Battle of the Bay 34-20.
First a blocked punt by linebacker Manny Lawson set the 49ers up at the 9-yardline to start the second half, and the offense made good on the excellent field position when Alex Smith threw a 6-yard touchdown to Arnaz Battle.
The Raiders were marching when cornerback Walt Harris came up with an interception in the end zone for a touchback. The 49ers took it the other way, going 80 yards and scoring on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Smith to Maurice Hicks.
Another Oakland drive was stymied by an interception by safety Chad Williams who took it back 43 yards to stage a 19-yard field goal by Joe Nedney at the start of the fourth quarter.
Following the kickoff, defensive end Melvin Oliver recovered a lateral pass that was touched by LaMont Jordan, taking it 12 yards for the 49ers first defensive score of the year.
After throwing another interception, the Raiders repalced Walter with Marques Tuiasosopo who got his team in the end zone in just four quick plays. His 8-yard toss to tight end Courtney Anderson closed the gap to 31-20 with 6:23 to go.
An onside kick attempt was recovered by wide receiver Antonio Bryant in Oakland territory, leading to a 39-yard Nedney field goal for a 49ers 34-20 win.
The 49ers originally scored first in the game with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Alex Smith to Arnaz Battle on their opening drive. Two 33-yard field goals by Sebastian Janikowski and a 22-yard touchdown reception by Randy Moss with 51 seconds to go in the second quarter gave Oakland a 13-7 edge heading into halftime.
